One evening a few weeks ago, several members of a television film crew crammed themselves into a tiny examination room on the seventh floor of the Research Medical Center, in Kansas City. The sun had set and the light was fading. Two men, one hoisting a big camera and the other a sound boom, stood in a corner less than a foot from one another. The hospital’s chief of medicine, the head of its cardiology department, and a nurse were also in the room.

Dr. Oz, (who is a muslim, I believe) is disgracing his profession. He is being hammered by legitimate physicians for endorsing peculiar stuff like certain vitamins for curealls, other non traditional stuff.

I truly hate that man and his show. During my cancer treatment I was often trapped in a room with his idiotic show blasting away. He´s a con-man and his audience is filled with moronic women who obsess over the most trivial issues.

Dr. Oz does present a problem for healthcare professionals: any rational questioning of Oz´s theories results in criticism by patients indoctrinated in fad medicine. He´s strayed too far from science.

Being an opinion board, Dr. Oz seems far from a sham given his credentials. His education and experience and the positions he holds suggest anything but. He does appear to be to love the fame and he does give out huckster like remarks but it appears he can back it up. Part of medicine is getting people to believe in the cure. It seems he can do that better than most although, perhaps to the jaundice eye it comes across as insincere.
Dr.s, as has many times been pointed out on this site, must pay for their education and practice, that he does so through endorsements, is not a crime ... and the weight loss products seem pointedly appropriate given the nature of his area. If he can, and he has been for 20 years, it is not hucksterism.

Couldn´t read all nine pages. How does a cardiologist have that much time ?
He seems to reach a vass number of people that would rather listen to him than their own physician. I´m sure many have discovered they had undetected diseases by watching his show and maybe their lives were saved. It´s the different lotions, potions, teas, and vitamins everyday that worry me.

Two New York Times columnists embarrassed themselves over the weekend, betraying anti-gun ignorance in the paper´s Sunday Review.Frank Bruni went hunting for the first time (with the chef of a ritzy Manhattan restaurant), and remarked "what an unfair fight" hunting is, as if he was the first person to think that up. After lamenting "how thoroughly a weapon can be romanticized and fetishized," he pivoted to easy access to guns in "this country of ours." I could forget, when not aiming at a bird, to keep the gun pointed toward the sky or the ground.

J. David Kuo, an evangelical Christian conservative and former top official of President George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative who drew wide attention when he publicly accused the administration of failing to live up to the values it espoused, died April 5 in Charlotte. He was 44.He was diagnosed a decade ago with brain cancer, his wife, Kimberly, said. Like most of you, I yearn for shorter winters, more shirt-sleeve weather, less lashing from frigid winds. As a confirmed New Yorker, I’m not willing to do what millions have done: move to the sunbelt. I want warmer weather here in the Big City.But I’ve grown old waiting for the promised global warming. I was 35 when predictions of a looming ice age were supplanted by warmmongering. Now I’m 68, and there’s still no sign of warmer weather. It’s enough to make one doubt the “settled science” of the government-funded doom-sayers.

In a measure of solidarity with those affected by the budget-slashing government sequestration, President Obama is giving up 5 percent of his salary for rest of the year, which is almost as admirable and sensible as a mansion-owner shutting off his marble fountains during a drought.This is not to imply that the president shouldn´t demonstrate some unity with those who´ve been furloughed or lost work because of the blind slashing the sequestration prompted.
