One-third of New Jerseyans say their personal income was directly affected by Hurricane Sandy, according to a new poll that shows a dwindling number of Garden Staters believe they are better off financially than they were a year ago. A survey by Fairleigh Dickinson University’s PublicMind found that fewer than one in five, or 18 percent, believe their financial situation is better. That’s down sharply from 32 percent last January. More than half the respondents said they are the “same” as last year, the poll showed. “Whether the glass if half full or empty depends on what expectations you bring

The rest of us somehow are better off because of what? We are stuck with higher taxes, high energy cost, higher insurance premiums and higher chance of losing our few remaining freedoms. Live sucks for a US citizen living in the USA now. Pretty good for Illegals, though.

To my Jersey amigos, I say take heart and don´t be swayed by the flyover pecking birds. They hate us because we´re beautiful.

I live in NJ and I can tell you right now if anyone, including Christie, was serious about helping the state´s economy, they would cut the sales tax in half immediately, and phase it out of existence entirely within 5 years.

The 7% sales tax is strangling retailers everywhere and killing small and large businesses alike.

The New Jersey Attorney General has filed a brief asking the U.S. Supreme Court not to hear a challenge to New Jersey’s handgun-carry restrictions. The brief, filed Friday, asks the nation’s highest court to dismiss the arguments of John Drake, a Sussex County business owner who says he needs to be armed because he carries large amounts of cash for his ATM business. The state’s gun laws are “a careful grid of regulatory provisions” that only allow carry permits when there is “special danger to the applicant’s life,” wrote John J. Hoffman, the attorney general. “New Jersey’s Legislature, long ago,

Port Authority officials said Tuesday morning they were reconsidering a controversial deal that gave NJ Transit a $1-a-year lease on valuable land in North Bergen. At the time of the vote in 2012, NJ Transit was paying the law firm of Port Authority Chairman David Samson up to $1.5 million for legal advice in connection with its effort to maximize profits from its commuter parking lots, including the one in North Bergen. The vote reduced NJ Transit´s lease payments from more $907,000 a year to $1 a year. Samson voted in favor of the deal in 2012, according to

Hackensack — A Hawthorne man long employed as Ridgewood’s public works inspector was in court this morning to admit he actually stole nearly half a million dollars in quarters from the village. Thomas Rica, 43, of Hawthorne, lost his job with the village in January of 2013 following his arrest for taking $500 in coins from Ridgewood’s meter collection room. But a year-long investigation into his crime by Bergen County authorities revealed Rica, in fact, stole a much larger chunk of change from the village than initially thought. Here´s another item for the (long) list of spectacular waste in the Pentagon´s budget: a $2.7-billion intelligence program that´s supposed to help Army troops on the ground collect and use intelligence on enemy fighters. It sounds like a good idea, but the thing is, the Army´s Distributed Common Ground System doesn´t actually do that, according to report from Foreign Policy. The article cites an internal assessment of the DCGS´s effectiveness, long requested by Congress but kept under wraps by the Pentagon for eight months. Probably because they didn´t feel like talking about such a spectacular failure. The existence of DCGS

Got $50,000? Then you, too, can attend a “private evening reception” with Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who wasted little time after Virginia´s General Assembly session gaveled to a close to launch a political action committee that offers such meetings with the governor in exchange for high-end donations. Such arrangements are commonplace, and the practice of Virginia governors creating their own fundraising PACs dates back 20 years. But the move was made after a legislative session in which reducing the influence of money in politics was one of the top priorities for a governor who drew up plans to rent out

Generally air traffic radars use something called a “Squawk” code - this is 4 digits, say ´1234´ - that is then used to transmit information to the ground radar of the aircraft’s position

The industry complaints come less than a week after Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius sought to downplay concerns about rising premiums in the healthcare sector.
