| New estimates from a Norwegian research project show meeting targets for minimizing global warming may be more achievable than previously thought. After the planet’s average surface temperature rose through the 1990s, the increase has almost leveled off at the level of 2000, while ocean water temperature has also stabilized, the Research Council of Norway said in a statement on its website. After applying data from the past decade, the results showed temperatures may rise 1.9 degrees Celsius if Co2 levels double by 2050, below the 3 degrees predicted by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

So that means that instead of the earth being rendered uninhabitable 5 years ago, as originally predicted. It might take 3 or 4 hundred years to become uninhabitable. If these people were not making decisions that had such negative effects on millions of other people´s lives, they would be absolutely hilarious.

I have to confess a grudging admiration for talented spin like this. This reporter has actually almost made lemonade out of a lemon. Not quite - but the usual Kool-Aid drinkers will never notice the difference.
One also has to acknowledge the remarkable resilience, flexibility and non-falsifiability of the anthropogenic global warming hypothesis, which seems to be impervious to mere data. We have seen again and again how the very same data and phenomena can be used to support the theory even when they change and contradict each other.
We might as well face it: anthropogenic global warming is just too good not to be true. Its advocates have become the equivalent of Procrustes and the Red Queen. One bed for all - verdict first, trial afterwards. Facts are not facts unless they fit the theory. Fortunately for the theory, the facts can be reinterpreted on a dime when necessary to preserve the theory. Thus what at first appears to be falsification is miraculously transmuted into verification.
This is a neat trick. It takes a really first class theory to make it work. Marxism and Freudianism are prototypes. On a smaller scale so are false and scurrilous charges of racism etc.

A family´s criticism of inflight entertainment allegedly prompted a United flight to be diverted over "security concerns." In a story published in The Atlantic, one family recounts traveling from Denver to Baltimore with two young sons, ages 4 and 8. During the flight, the PG-13-rated detective film "Alex Cross" was shown on drop-down monitors across the plane. The family worried about their young children seeing inappropriate content in the film. "Alarmed by the opening scenes, we asked two flight attendants if they could turn off the monitor; both claimed it was not possible," the family said, according to The Atlantic.

A Library of Congress film preservation worker faces federal charges for allegedly posting fake sex ads on Craigslist directing men to his ex-girlfriend. The Star Exponent of Culpeper reports that 61-year-old Kenneth Edward Kuban was charged with stalking a Fauquier County woman he had dated briefly in 2011. Kuban, who works at the Library of Congress Packard campus in Culpeper, allegedly posted the ads from his work computer. Authorities say Kuban made several Craigslist postings each week directing men to his ex-girlfriend´s home for sex or to buy pornographic videos.

We all know that guns can cost lives because the media repeat this message endlessly, as if we could not figure it out for ourselves. But even someone who reads newspapers regularly and watches numerous television newscasts may never learn that guns also save lives-- much less see any hard facts comparing how many lives are lost and how many are saved. But that trade-off is the real issue, not the Second Amendment or the National Rifle Association, which so many in the media obsess about.

Bush Presidential Center at Southern Methodist University, officials confirmed Tuesday. Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Newtown killer Adam Lanza may have launched his murder spree at Sandy Hook Elementary School as an “act of revenge,” the Daily News has learned.
