Imagine you´re getting ready to head to church one fine Sunday morning and on your television you hear a man say, "Let´s give up on the Constitution." Such actually happened when CBS News Sunday Morning aired a rather inflammatory commentary by a Georgetown University law professor teased by host Charles Osgood asking, "Is the U.S. Constitution truly worthy of the reverence in which most Americans hold it?" (video follows with transcript and commentary): CHARLES OSGOOD, HOST: Is the U.S. Constitution truly worthy of the reverence in which most Americans hold it?

He is professor of CONSTITUTIONAL law at Georgetown. Great. A constitutional law professor teaching contempt for the constitution. I suppose if seminaries can employ atheists to teach Christianity, why not this? Georgetown is the incubator for American Communitarianism, so this should be expected. But I wonder how many prospective law students, and their parents who will be writing the tuition checks, fully understand the anti-American sewer they are wading into.

The revered Constitution didn´t even hold this country together for 100 years. And Lincoln shredded it in order to ´preserve´ it. We know there are incredible flaws that allow the ´checks and balances´ to eliminate the will of the people (look at the SCOTUS´ decision on Obambicare). Our constitution allows our lawmakers to exempt themselves for the very laws that enslave us. Our goobernment has agencies that are unaccountable to anyone or anything (HHS and rules on Obambicare). Our constitution now allows for legalization of abhorrent behavior (abortion, homosexual marriage). What is legal isn’t right and our goobernment and its beloved Constitution leave no proves for eliminating the evil imposed by the SCOTUS. The one saving grace in the near worthless parchment is for now we can bear arms and thus be in a better position for revolution. So Osgood is correct in that we need to destroy the flawed docuament we ahve now and create one that eliminates the ability of a ruthless and evil goobernment from enslaving us.

If this was a way to open a serious discussion on why the Constitution is vital to freedom throughout the world, then I say rock on! However, if it is just to bash America some more, Well that a whole different kettle of fish.

The country is done. For those of you over 50 just look back in time and remember how things have changed. From anti-smoking to food laws (Bloomberg) the changes have been incremental, but effective in remaking the country.

The idea of dumping the constitution may seem silly now but the left will not stop. The idea will be taught in schools and be in movies, print, and TV until, twenty years from now it will become reality.

Don´t believe me? If someone told you 30 years ago that you would not be able to smoke in a bar would you have believed them or just laughed.

The Constitution is the best representation of Rule of Law. If you do not have reverence towards it, your attitude towards the rule of law is suspect. What the lefty is really trying to say is that the Constitution holds out a constant, fair and unchanging common platform for peacefully resolving differences. What he and 0bama would rather have is a framework where their views will take precedence over those who disagree with them. Thats what the entire struggle is all about.

Truly Worthy of Reverence in WhichMost Americans Hold It?´

A few decades ago, CBS News was probably one of the most trusted outlets going. As Dan Rather conveniently pointed out, however...the propaganda eventually beat out unbiased reporting.

From 60 Minutes on down - CBS News is now better described as the farce that keeps on giving, and pretty far down the scale as far as ´actual´ news reporting goes.

Tough cookies, CBS. Thinking Americans know you´re no longer on the ´thinking´ side of the equation.

#7, as right as your observations are, I hope your conclusions are not. Now I´m depressed.

The people who created that constitution started a country from savage wilderness. Many people fought to the death to make it a reality.
The US communists have created nothing. In fact, they have severely damaged a thriving republic. Gee, I wonder who I should hold in greater reverence?

1. There are some 190 countries that don´t use the US Constitution. Planes leave the US every day. In, oh, 6 to 10 hours, any American can be in one of those countries, so there´s obviously no need to throw out the Constitution here.

2. Seidman is incapable of rational thinking, unwilling to employ it, or both.

3. FTA: To be clear, I don´t think we should give up on everything in the Constitution. The Constitution has many important and inspiring provisions, but we should obey these because they are important and inspiring, not because a bunch of people who are now long-dead favored them two centuries ago.

So Seidman maintains that every law is made moot when those who voted for it die?

The Constitution is most certainly deserving of the reverence and esteem that the American Citizens hold for it. Unfortunately, Federal Agenst, Congress and the President seem to hove less reverence for the document that created their positions than for the people who pay their salaries.

For the citizen the Constitution is a shield against public officials. For a Public Official, the Constitution is an impediment to their achieving a given objective.

Who in the world is Charles Osgood? Just like a liberal, if it does not work for them, then just toss it out and do what you want, after all, that´s what our president is doing. I have great respect for our founding fathers who had the intelligence to put checks and balances in our constitutution, so that one branch cannot force their wishes upon the other.
