| National Review gathered dozens of talking heads and GOP elected luminaries along with nearly a thousand supporters over the weekend in Washington in proceedings designed to take the pulse of a bloodied but unbowed conservative movement. The electeds who did star turns were, in order of appearance, Tom Cotton, Paul Ryan, Scott Walker, Ted Cruz and Bobby Jindal. Their ages? 35, 42, 45, 42 and 42. Others on the front bench of conservatism? Kelly Ayotte at 44, Chris Christie at 50, Rand Paul at 50, Marco Rubio at 41 Pat Toomey at 51 and John Thune at 52.

I agree that we have many wonderful young office holders. Of course, this is where the future of the GOP lies. The Democrats are recycling their old people and lack capable younger people. They do have the advantage of being in power and could consolidate it for years into the future by packing the Supreme Court with liberals, downsizing our military and bankrupting our middle class thereby eliminating it altogether.
While I was reading the article I noticed that I could read the full text of Jindal´s speech so I read that. He wants Republicans to stop talking like CPA´s and stop arguing about government at the DC level. He wants them to "grow the private sector" and set forth our vision for the future of America. He seems to think we have given up on trying to be minority friendly or, at least, that is the impression I got. He was enthusiastic about the possibilities of getting ahead by starting businesses, etc. In other words, by hard work. He seemed to think this was a new approach for us. To me it does not seem very different from what Romney was saying to an audience that didn´t seem to welcome the prospect of hard work.
We have to try to persuade. There is no other way. But it is easier said than done.

We do indeed have hope if the moderates and elite of the party will not hobble the conservatives/tea party types. Tea Party ideals are the best but like Palin are shot down by our own party moderates. Calling oneself a conservative then killing any chance for a strong conservative candidate being elected is the face of an enemy of conservative principals. If Rove and others in the establishment had gotten behind our candidates rather then killing them on Fox and in print the story would have been different. Harry Reid´s best friend is Karl Rove and all other establishment/moderate Republicans. All conservatives want is a candidate that is not afraid to be conservative...not one that pretends to be conservative. I always know who the conservative candidate is in a race by posters who go after them. Pretending to be conservative is worse than declaring yourself a moderate. Lying and hiding is despicable.

By having Christie there, they have shown they have no understanding of conservatism. When are the people at NR going to understand that we don´t want Christie as our nominee? And for that matter Marco Rubio. The guy is not helping himself with his stands on illegal immigration. And after Jindal´s recent speeches, he is sounding a little squishy himself.

#2, every candidate who claims to be a conservative does not automatically deserve our votes. Some candidates are just bad risks, no matter their claims. If we can do a better job of vetting the primary candidates, we´ll be a lot better positioned to win general election races.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.

SANFORD - Trayvon Martin´s parents have settled a wrongful death claim for an amount believed to be more than $1 million against the homeowners association of the Sanford subdivision where their teenage son was killed.
