| Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the California Democrat who has emerged as the leading proponent in Congress of tough new gun regulations in the wake of last month´s Newtown, Conn., school shootings, defended her proposed assault weapons ban on Sunday. Mrs. Feinstein, in an interview on CNN´s "State of the Union," conceded that the assault-weapons-ban legislation she introduced in the Senate on Thursday faces long odds. "This has always been an uphill fight ... this is the hardest of the hard," she said. She said her new gun-control proposals have broad-based support among mayors,

The ironic thing is the good senator has done more for gun sales than anyone since Samuel Colt. Or maybe ØDumbø. My crystal ball is cloudy but I think the whole thing will blow over. In order to repeal the Second Amendment it would have to be ratified by 2/3 of the states. And that´s not going to happen.

It was a recall attempt prompted by her gun control policies in San Francisco that make Feinstein politically ironclad.
I really try to like her, possibly because, next to Barbara Boxer, she´s a paragon of common sense. She has also, to some small degree, opposed the anti-military fanatics who dominate SF politics, and supported home-porting the Missouri in SF.
She´s not running for re-election. Like most of the dog-and-pony show that is Washington, she will run with this football as far as she can, and if she doesn´t cross the goal line, no one can say she didn´t try.

The NRA is open to bribery?
I don´t think anyone has to bribe the NRA to support our entire Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment.
To get a Democrat to support these rights, however, probably WOULD require a substantial bribe.

The sad part is Kalifornia has elected a woman who is attempting to outlaw something due to it´s looks.
If Di Fi had any conscience, she would be trying to outlaw, swimming pools, automobiles and bathtubs rather than guns.
If Gun Free Zones worked, Chicago would be safe. Why don´t they pass another law that says Murder is unlawful. That should solve the problem.

The NRA is nothing but a bunch of like minded people enjoying the same hobby.Leave them alone and they´ll leave you alone.
According to Feinstein and the rest of the gun grabbers, they are outlaws, threatening the future of the country and accessory to every murder.
It´s OK to stereotype and smear these people with a broad brush but you´d better not stereotype minorities and gays, even though they are tremendously like minded, politically.
These people are always looking for something or someone to do an Alinsky on.Now Obama says Limbaugh and Fox are getting in the way of a full blown left wing country. Obama got elected twice with both of them doing their thing.
In fact, talk radio and a cable channel could be getting passed by with high tech communications and text messages to cell phones, from the WH,which is illegal. The groups might be considered neutral on paper but they´re coordinate with the WH which is illegal. Somehow I got on the WH email list about 3 years ago and got a message from MO.I replied to remove me from the list but my brain was looking for an ice bucket after reading just one sentence of it.

"For me, Sandy Hook was an epiphany ... this was a young man, he knew weapons, he knew how to use weapons."
She does make a point, one which the NRA has never addressed. For the NRA´s position has been that teaching young people to use weapons, and how to use them safely, was the best policy. Adam Lanza was taught how to use weapons. he was taught how to use them safely. But that knowledge could not overcome psychotic or delusional thinking. Not surprising to those who work with the mentally ill, but probably surprising to the general public.
People aren´t born mentally ill. Serious mental illness tends to develop over time, with the most likely time to be in adolescence or young adulthood. There need to be ways to keep weapons out of the hands of those with psychotic/delusional thinking. Arming everyone won´t stop this, for some of those people you imagine being armed will turn out to have serious mental illness. And in a psychotic episode, they may snap.

Though noting that his determination to take action is on the tardy side, congressional Republicans said they’re ready to work with the White House on helping Syrian civilians in the fight versus Bashar al-Assad. “Nearly two years ago, President Obama called for Syrian dictator Bashar Assad to go. A year later, the president laid down a clear red line, threatening serious consequences if Assad used or transferred chemical weapons. For months we’ve seen reports of such use, and today the White House finally confirmed it. It’s increasingly clear the president does not have a coherent plan

The Syrian government used chemical weapons against rebel forces trying to overthrow the regime, the Obama administration said Thursday, acknowledging that President Bashar Assad has without doubt crossed the “red line” President Obama laid down for U.S. action in the country’s bloody civil war. The announcement, which confirms what the U.S. and its allies have long suspected, ups the pressure on Mr. Obama, and key lawmakers on Capitol Hill said this means there must be deeper U.S. military involvement in the 2-year-old civil war. Putting American boots on the ground in Syria isn’t being considered

Nobody can claim a patent on genes naturally found in human DNA, but you can patent them if you created them in a lab, the Supreme Court ruled today. Molecular biology is on the cutting edge of modern technology and now poses novel legal questions. When someone creates a new invention, patent laws exist to protect the intellectual property of the creator. But can anyone claim that human genes found in DNA is intellectual property in a patent (except maybe God, who was not named as a party to this lawsuit)? Myriad Genetics discovered the location and code sequence

Glenn Greenwald is a former blogger at Salon.com and currently a columnist on civil liberties and U.S. national security issues for the Guardian. His political orientation embraces a brand of “anti-imperialism” — common within the UK far-left — informed by a palpable loathing of America, a nation characterized as a dangerous force in the world. Greenwald’s anti-Americanism is so intense that he once compared the U.S. overthrow of Saddam Hussein in Iraq to the Nazi conquest of Europe. As is the case with many Guardian-brand commentators, Greenwald’s anti-imperialist ideological package includes a strong hostility to Israel, and a corresponding belief

The IRS would not confirm or deny reports of Paz’s firing, citing her right to privacy as protected by federal law. As of Thursday, the voice mail on Paz’s work phone remains active

It’s all but a journalistic commandment: Thou shalt not have a vested interest in the story you’re covering. Otherwise, a personal entanglement could color a reporter’s neutrality or cloud public perceptions of fairness. An obvious area of concern: when a journalist’s relatives or spouse is part of the news. So what to make of all the family ties between the news media and the Obama administration? According to the news media, nothing much at all. News organizations say they’ve worked out the conflicts — real or potential — involving their journalists. But that hasn’t stopped a few eyebrows

Renegade NSA techie Edward Snowden apparently seems to be extending his campaign to do as much damage as possible to America’s national security. It’s not bad enough that he blew two highly classified programs designed, with considerable safeguards to protect civil liberties, to monitor telephone calls and Internet traffic. Now in an interview with the South China Morning Post, a newspaper in Chinese-controlled Hong Kong which is owned by the pro-Beijing billionaire Robert Kuok, he has disclosed what he describes as U.S. government efforts to penetrate computer networks in China and Hong Kong.

In a Gallup tracking poll released Tuesday, former-President George W. Bush currently stands with a favorability rating of 49%, compared to 46% who see the 43rd president unfavorably. Meanwhile, another Gallup poll shows President Obama with only a 47% approval rating, with 44% disapproving. If you think about it, this makes perfect sense. After all, Obama fooled everyone when he ran as the anti-Bush in 2008. Everyone thought Obama meant he would be less hawkish than his predecessor. But as we have seen, Obama apparently has no problem killing American citizens

The Senate voted overwhelmingly today to move debate forward on the Gang of Eight’s immigration bill. Only 15 Republicans voted No. Not all the Republicans who voted to move the bill forward today will necessarily vote for its passage, but it appears to be a foregone conclusion that the bill will indeed make it out of the Senate in more or less its current form. This is, I think, mystifying. I can understand why Democrats would vote for the bill: over the next ten years, it will result in somewhere between 30 million and 57 million new legal immigrants

Edward Snowden, the NSA turncoat, sounds coherent and measured at first blush, but the more he keeps talking the more he emerges as a paranoid narcissist with a messiah complex. He believes that there is a vast, overarching conspiracy within the U.S. government to abrogate the liberties of ordinary citizens, and he is the only person who has the courage and the idealism to expose this monstrous misdoing. Of the stated goals for NSA’s programs—to keep us safe from external threats—he has not a word to say. Perhaps he thinks such threats do not exist or do not need

Rep. Trent Franks (R-Ariz.) said Wednesday that the incidence of pregnancy caused by rape is "very low," prompting criticism from Democrats who said the GOP is waging a "war on women." Franks made the comment during a committee mark-up of his late-term abortion ban bill, which is expected pass the House next week. The Republican lawmaker was arguing against a Democratic amendment allowing rape and incest victims to procure abortions. As written, the bill only exempts women whose lives are in danger. "You know, the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low," Franks said.
