Pulitzer Prize-winning
playwright David Mamet:
Obama’s gun control policy
is Marxist

Daily Caller [Washington DC], by Patrick Howley

In a recent column, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright David Mamet suggested President Barack Obama is a Marxist who seeks to determine the “needs” of the citizenry. “All of us have had dealings with the State, and have found, to our chagrin, or, indeed, terror, that we were not dealing with well-meaning public servants or even with ideologues but with overworked, harried bureaucrats. These, as all bureaucrats, obtain and hold their jobs by complying with directions and suppressing the desire to employ initiative, compassion, or indeed, common sense. They are paid to follow orders,” Mamet wrote. “Rule by bureaucrats and functionaries

David Mamet is a profile in courage. That he´s an entertainment industry icon and he dares to speak up for sensible principles is more brave than most can understand. They -- who loved him before -- are ripping him to shreds and shunning him. I doubt he was surprised, but it still stinks to see it.

I know some Democrats, all too well. For more than half my life, I was one (but with serious caveats). Believe me, one of their deepest frustrations is not being able to come out and say, in clear and honest terms, what they really feel. Because if they did, their adulation of Marx´s "theories" of class warfare and oppression by capitalism would send them into the political desert. So they have to disguise it with evasive "compassion" and "fairness" rhetoric. Obama is a master at this, but they all know the code words for what the real intentions are, underneath.

But I´ve been wondering whether a 2nd Obama term might just give them enough courage to start coming out of the closet and, like the Warren Beatty movie "Bulworth", start using the word Socialism out loud more and more until it becomes acceptable and mainstream. When demonizing achievers ("the rich"), maybe a few prominent Democrats might begin to add things like "Well, you know, Chris, Marx did have a point when he said..."

Apostates like Mamet are their worst nightmare, because an apostate knows both sides from the inside, and can expose the real intentions behind the rhetoric - the very, very last thing the Left ever wants done.

Obama and the left aren´t going to win the gun control argument. They´ll flap their jaws and pass some superficial laws but it won´t matter that much. Background checks should be where the real effort should go,this is a human behavior problem not a gun one.

LONDON -- The funeral of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s longest-serving leader of the 20th century, will be held in St. Paul’s Cathedral on April 17, officials said Tuesday. Queen Elizabeth II and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, are expected to attend what will be the most elaborate funeral to be staged in London since the death of the queen’s mother in 2002. It will be the first funeral of a prime minister that the queen will have attended since Winston Churchill’s in 1965. Thatcher, who died Monday at age 87 after years of declining health,

SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea on Tuesday urged all foreign companies and tourists in South Korea to evacuate, saying the two countries are on the verge of nuclear war. The new threat appeared to be an attempt to keep the region on tenterhooks over its intentions. Analysts see a direct attack on Seoul as extremely unlikely, and there are no overt signs that North Korea´s 1.2 million-man army is readying for war, let alone a nuclear one. South Korea´s military has reported missile movements on North Korea´s east coast but nothing pointed toward South Korea.

"The day Newtown happened was the toughest day of my presidency," Mr. Obama told the crowd at the University of Hartford, where family members of the massacre´s victims sat. Since when has it been considered smart to tell your enemies what your plans are? Yet there on the front page of the April 8th New York Times was a story about how unnamed "American officials" were planning a "proportional" response to any North Korean attack. This was spelled in an example: If the North Koreans "shell a South Korean island that had military installations" then the South Koreans would retaliate with "a barrage of artillery of similar intensity." Whatever the merits or demerits of such a plan, what conceivable purpose can be served by telling the North Koreans

Hours after the Lockerbie atrocity, Mrs Thatcher was wading through the carnage wrought by terrorists over a small Scottish town, paying her condolences to the bereaved. It had been a long and harrowing day, but when she arrived back in London late that night she still found time to phone me at home. Her voice was anxious, kind. She asked: ‘How is Ray, dear?’ The day before, my husband had suffered a serious accident and Mrs Thatcher had been characteristically solicitous, offering her car to run me home.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.
