Real lives: Bettine Le Beau ‘I kidded myself
that there was an angel looking
after me’

Daily Mail (UK), by Louette Harding

Original Article

Posted By:zephyrgirl, 1/27/2013 10:05:51 AM

Faced with an unimaginable dilemma, Bettine Le Beau’s mother decided to give her and her brother to a stranger to save them from a concentration camp. To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, Bettine tells Louette Harding about her dangerous escape and her remarkable life after the war. The depths of winter, 1940: an agent from a humanitarian organisation smuggles herself into Gurs concentration camp near the French Pyrenees. In the women’s barrack, she explains, ‘I am able to take ten children out of here. Tell me if you want me to take yours.’

Comments:
Her mother was very brave to send Bettine to safety.

Six million Jews were murdered. How many survivors lived with the horror for the rest of their lives? So many stories.

The story didn´t have an entirely happy ending, but at least everyone lived, including the mother. Too bad that Ms. LeBeau never chose to meet her half-sister. The older you get, the more important all family members become.

These stories must be told, yet some don´t believe this happened at all. Unfortunately, they are leaving in droves every day and when they are gone and no longer able to tell the stories that evil will return.

I just finished reading about the Japanese diplomat who saved 6,000 Jews by giving them Japanese visas so they could escape. He was ordered not to do it by his government by he ignored them and did it anyway. He was lucky that they did not execute him for treason.

I don´t hear as many of these stories as I used to...and they are so very important for us to learn from.
God Bless this woman and her determination not to be bitter.
And I do admire French practicality. It sure beats this culture of reality-tv emoting and victimization.

If you have never visited the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC, I urge you to do so. It is beautiful and informative and completely devastating and you will come out changed. I lost a bit of my soul there more than ten years ago and have never forgotten the experience.

Six million died from one man´s delusions of grandeur. Never again. Never EVER again!!!

Jefferson County, Colo. - A judge ruled on Friday that there is enough evidence for a teen to stand trial for murder and attempted abduction about an hour after prosecutors played a 911 tape where Austin Sigg admitted to killing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway and to trying to kidnap a female jogger. The five-minute recording played during a Friday preliminary hearing began with the teen´s mother, Mindy Sigg, calling 911 on the night of Oct. 23, 2012. "I need you to come to my house, my son wants to turn himself in for Jessica Ridgeway's murder," the mother tells a dispatcher.

Only four doctors in the U.S. offer third-trimester abortions, knowing they risk their own lives every day to carry out such controversial procedures. These doctors are the subject of a documentary screened at the Sundance film festival last weekend, forty years after the legalization of abortion in the U.S. and four years after Dr Tiller. Physician George Tiller was a prominent practitioner of late-term abortions shot dead by an extremist in 2009. The documentary After Tiller is named for him and focuses on the few remaining doctors who perform abortions in the third trimester of a pregnancy. The Supreme Court granted states the right to limit abortions in the final three months of a pregnancy.

Is the Washington National Cathedral the spiritual center of the nation? In the mind of the liberal Episcopal cathedral’s new dean, it should be. Such an assertion would surprise many of America’s churchgoers, the vast majority of whom are not even Oldline Protestants, let alone Episcopalians. But since assuming leadership of the Cathedral in October, Dean Gary R. Hall has frequently spoken of the church’s role as being “at the center” of American public life.

Moving mistress Rielle Hunter and their love child Quinn closer to his North Carolina home may have made John Edwards happy - but the same cannot be said about his neighbors. It was reported today the disgraced politician and Hunter get so frisky and loud during their bedtime trysts, they have received complaints about the noise. The former presidential candidate, 59, is said to spend most nights at the Chapel Hill home he recently bought for Rielle and a source told The National Enquirer: ´It has pretty much turned into his booze and sex romp hideaway.´

When it comes to becoming a physician, the academic rigors, years of schooling, and personal sacrifice common to the effort are well-known. This process is a sort of rite of passage, an intellectual marathon that only the best and brightest can complete. As such, medical schools should select candidates best-suited to excel throughout school and cultivate the skills that will allow them to practice in the best health care system in the world. The process by which these candidates are selected, however, may come as a shock.

It was where he and his parents had grown up. But when Parker first tried to bid on a house in a new development in Mitchellville, a small farming community that was sprouting ranch and split-level homes on old plantation lands, the real-estate agent demurred, claiming there were other buyers. In truth, the development had been built to lure white, middle-class families to the county

In a series of remarkably candid comments, Prince Charles hinted that he feared his legacy as king would be cut short. During a visit to Dumfries House, the stately home in East Ayrshire which the Prince helped save for the nation, he joked about his reputation for pursuing projects with notorious vigour but made a poignant reference to his mortality. He said: “Impatient? Me? What a thing to suggest! Yes of course I am.” He added: “I’ll run out of time soon. I shall have snuffed it if I’m not careful.”

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
