| When Burt Rico was caught using a deer feeder equipped with lights while hunting in Louisiana, he was slapped with a $1,051 fine and sentenced to 60 days in jail. He was cited for hunting without a big-game license, failing to wear hunter orange and hunting deer with an artificial light. Until he was cited, he didn’t know he had done anything wrong, he claims. Rico’s case isn’t an isolated one. According to a new report by the Texas Public Policy Foundation, thousands of people are being prosecuted for environmental crimes every day

Why should "hunter orange" even be a law. It´s for your own protection, not to protect someone else.
The EPA is an illegal agency and should be euthanized.

FTA: ´´While there is no concrete figure, there are an estimated 300,000-400,000 environmental laws, statutes and mandates believed to be in circulation nationally. Many can land a person in prison, regardless of whether another person, plant or animal is harmed.´´

Read further - he was spotlighting too. yeah, never knew it was against the law.
#2 - why do we have the EPA? Because corporations, unregulated, took the easy path to hazardous materials management and dumped them wherever and whenever they could without regard to the impact on human health and environment in air, water or soil. I don´t know about you, but I kind of like not having to breath gray air or drink polluted water.
Had industry been good environmental stewards, the EPA would have never been formed. Think of them as the police for pollution. We can disagree with how they are used as political footballs today, but they do serve a valid purpose: To keep you from having to eat cows that drink radioactive water. If you disagree with this, I happen to know several industrial sites where the drinking water has been impacted with various constituents. And per EPA, if you drink enough of that water, and if you have a genetic predisposition for cancer, and if you drink it long enough, it can kill you or your children if they drink it from infancy.
If water isn´t your thing, then breathing the air near these plants would do the same too.

While I agree with the article pemise about too many laws, the first example of a person hunting deer, over a feeder, using a light etc etc, and not knowing he was breaking any laws in complete hogwash. The rules he broke were all state laws, established by Louisiana Fish and Game and had nothing to do with the EPA. Better research by the author might make the article believable.

not EPA rules, Fish and Game rules. spotlighting has been illegal since i was a kid (and my 45th HS reunion is coming up). hunting deer without a license for longer than that. hunter orange wearing, well that´s like for your own protection and if you are too stupid to wear something that shouts out, i´m not a deer - don´t shoot me when everyone around is slinging bullets, well that stupid shouldn´t be illegal. i believe that the only real way to reduce the web of rules and fines is to make a law requiring that you can´t make a new law or regulation unless you recind one already on the books.

Sorry, #4, but those environmentally bad acting companies were pretty much a thing of the ´70´s and ´80´s. Not so much in 2013, when the USA is no longer a major manufacturing country. Emissions from coal power plants today are so much cleaner than in 1970 that you cannot even compare. Yet we get new mercury and particulate emissions regulations to meet levels that cannot be online measured with instruments today with no scientifically proven health basis. The EPA is out of control, and has been for some time. Their agenda is anti-energy, anti-industry, and they have driven jobs overseas and increased the cost of your energy bill. Ethanol in gasoline? Ha!

This article is stupid. THese are state laws. WIth regards to hunting, I have never hunted, have lived half a century and know the following things- even as a child, I knew you had to have hunting or fishing licenses. AS an adult, I found out that some people use spotlights to hunt and that in most places (or all places?) it is illegal. The wearing orange is probably moot since he was hunting at night but it is not just to protect you- the emotional harm that comes to a hunter who may accidentally shoot you if you are resembling a wild animal is not to be taken lightly.

Skimmed the original article and barely made it past the author´s name. BTW he has forgone research on the EPA to follow his own family tree. Second, The orange is to protect the hunter himself Another such law is the seat belt in a vehicle. For lack of wearing it, one acquires a ticket yet it helps no one BUT the actual wearer. Gads, hate those straps..so uncomfortable.
Last year we had three young dear wander up to our deck. Stood in the kitchen, looking out the window, watching them graze and frolic. Beautiful creatures. No license, no shooting, and no orange.

Agree that the example is ridiculous and not applicable the EPA issues. Regarding the EPA, it deserves some credit for that fact that manufacturing and power generation is as clean as it is today. That being said, the EPA has been hi-jacked by enviros with a totally different agenda than it´s original purpose and needs to be gone. Re: manufacturing: while China now leads in output, the US is second and outproduces the next seven countries combined. Manufacturing is alive and well here. It´s just doing it with many fewer people; a trajectory nearly identical to that of agriculture in the last century.

#4, you can´t name a single instance of "mother gaia" being so horribly "injured" by "evil man" that "she" couldn´t recover from it. Not one. In fact, the earth consumes everything like a giant feeding machine. Look at the Mayan temples for that. Even the Sphinx was buried and the Pyramids are eroding.
Earth is also responsible for more human death than all of the evil despots and "religions" in history combined through earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, lightning, etc.
Think about it.

#9- if you were correct, I would not be employed. You would be shocked at the things companies do out of ignorance since 1989, the year I became an environmental consultant. There are a number of companies where I have worked that polluted the groundwater, air, and rivers because they didn´t want to pay to comply with rules. 2 years ago, I witnessed a fortune 100 company illegally dispose of wastes and had employees improperly treat the same to save $60K in disposal costs because they would impact the managers bonus. It was only because the state shut then down that they stopped.

“No British politician has ever been more despised by the British people than Margaret Thatcher,” moody crooner Morrissey contends. “Thatcher’s funeral on Wednesday will be heavily policed for fear that the British tax-payer will want to finally express their view of Thatcher. They are certain to be tear-gassed out of sight by the police. United Kingdom? Syria? China? What’s the difference?” Aside from the smell, a big difference is that people vote in the United Kingdom. In 1979, 1983, and again in 1987, the British people voted for the Conservative Party, which Margaret Thatcher led.

Marco Rubio and the so-called Gang of Eight’s push for comprehensive immigration reform has drawn sharp criticism from conservative skeptics. Perhaps foremost among them is Senator Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), who has spent the last several weeks trying to galvanize his colleagues in an effort to warn of the potential pitfalls of an ill-conceived and under-scrutinized immigration bill. Sessions is not alone. Senate veterans such as Chuck Grassley (R., Iowa), the ranking member on the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as conservative newcomers such as Mike Lee (R., Utah), among others, have expressed concerns about the process,

Turn over any green-energy rock, and wiggling underneath will be the usual creepy mix of political favoritism and taxpayer-funded handouts. Add to this the Clintons, Mississippi and a murky visa program, and you´ve got a particularly ripe political embarrassment for Terry McAuliffe. Everyone remember The Macker? Best Friend of Bill. Chairman of Hillary´s 2008 presidential campaign. Famed money-tree shaker. Former Democratic Party chief. Failed 2009 contender for the Virginia governorship but now back as the party´s nominee for that position in this fall´s election. Oh—and in Mr. McAuliffe´s words—"a Virginia businessman" intent on "creating jobs."

There is something profoundly timid about President Obama’s proposed $3.8?trillion budget for 2014. Stripped of boasts about “investments” for the future and a responsible “balance” between deficit reduction and economic growth, the budget is a status-quo document. It lets existing trends and policies run their course, meaning that Obama would allow higher spending on the elderly to overwhelm most other government programs. This is not “liberal” or “conservative” so much as politically expedient and lazy. The trends are clear. From 2014 to 2023, the administration projects annual spending on Social Security to rise from $860?billion to $1.4?trillion,

While visiting City Hall the other day, Jimmy Carter volunteered that, if asked, he’d be more than happy to go back to North Korea to defuse Pyongyang’s nuclear saber-rattling. “I’ve been there three times so far,” said Carter. “But I never have been unless North Korea asked me to come and I got approval from the White House. If that should happen, I would be glad to go back.” And the Nobel Peace Prize winner proceeded to make his case for why Barack Obama and Kim Jong Un should do precisely that. “I know the people there very well,” he said.

WASHINGTON -- A bipartisan immigration bill soon to be introduced in the Senate could exclude hundreds of thousands of immigrants here illegally from ever becoming U.S. citizens, according to a Senate aide with knowledge of the proposals. The bill would bar anyone who arrived in the U.S. after Dec. 31, 2011, from applying for legal status and ultimately citizenship, according to the aide, who spoke on condition because the proposals have not been made public. It also would require applicants to document that they were in the country before Dec. 31, 2011, have a clean criminal record

And about guns, no less. Arguendo, let’s presume that the much-vaunted Toomey-Manchin “compromise” makes it out of the Senate unalloyed, and then that it then passes the House with nary a squeak from the right. Let’s then postulate that a majority agrees with the president that expanding background checks is a “reasonable” thing to do — redolent of “a commonsense approach” — and that those of us with the temerity to oppose it will be widely painted as “extremists.”

Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”
