The Siege of Merimna

When Halsey’s TF 38 tested the Japanese defenses of the central Philippines in late 1944 the admiral was stunned by the imperial weakness. “We had found the central Philippines a hollow shell with weak defenses and skimpy facilities. In my opinion, this was the vulnerable belly of the imperial dragon. The time might be ripe not only to strike Manila, but perhaps to mount a far larger offensive.(Snip)It is a vacuum everywhere. The US government is being treated like a toothless, contemptible thing. It is easy to see why. The US government has been bankrupt for a long time.

Presidents are always tested by foreign powers.

Remember when Clinton called the Navy back from Haiti because some rowdies were burning tires in the port. That sent a message which took W to correct. But now Choom repeats the same from day one of his Presidency in 2009.

How little they learn.

I never heard of Plunket´s fable. The quotes are beautiful and apt to our situation.

Obama has created a disaster both in our country and in the world. His winning of the election. the adulation of his followers and of the media has caused his opponents to doubt their ability to resist him and they have backed off. Perhaps they are waiting, as I am, for the situation to get even worse and for more people to wake up to what is happening.

This is not the fault of those of us who always saw through Obama. Have courage. There are signs that even some reporters are opening their eyes.

Not to worry. So we´re in the process of gutting the military. When the enemy storms the gates, we can hurl Beyonce´ and Jay-Z at, and hold the Kardashians in reserve. These are our real heroes.

And when "the hyenas converge from every point on the compass" upon us, we will have the great satisfaction of knowing that we have had a priorities right; we will have gays and women in our front-line military to defend us, and will have already rid ourselves of troublesome and outspoken generals--even if they were effective.

I don´t know how it changes the analogy, but there was more to the change in plans for the invasion of the Philippines. Admiral Koga´s planes crashed in the central Philippines and his plans fell into the hands of Philippine guerillas who sent them on to MacArthur.

We have a fake POTUS with a fake resume and fake birth certificate and fake biography, elected in fake elections with 110% voting and who has never been really vetted by the fake media. The SecState is a faker, pounding the table and crying to cover her incompetence. Her replacement faked his Purple Heart awards in Vietnam, and faked throwing away his medals, and faked the stories about atrocities.

The Dept of Justice faked the enforcement of gun laws to give hundreds of military look rifles to the drug cartels to create a fake epidemic of border violence, with real bodies. The Border Patrol fakes the enforcement of immigration laws. DHS fakes airport security. The Senate fakes the budget process while Treasury prints trillions of fake dollars.

How could anyone imagine that the US isn´t what we used to be? s/ off

´Progressive,´ zealots apparently fantasize continually of disarming, dismantling and dispersing the USA, rendering this country as helplessas the lady in the commercial who has, ´´fallen down and can´t get up.´´ ...Wouldn´t the power-hungry tyrannts of the world just have a, ´field day,´ if if if America the beautiful, THE Beacon of individual Liberty on the planet since the Founders established it, suddenly gave it all up?

As was illustrated so clearly in, ´´It´s A Wonderful Life,´´ by the life of one man, ´George Baily,´ what if the U.S.A. had never existed, ...had never proved the validity of the Founders´ Constitutional principles for securing & defending individual freedoms AND, ´domestic tranquility?´

We take our freedoms for granted but Pres. Reagan reminded us that the possible loss of freedom is always only one generation away. ...Freedom isn´t, ´free.´

Sydney Leathers was a girlfriend for hire and any old creep with a thousand bucks to spare could have had the pleasure of her companionship, such as it was. The news that Anthony Weiner’s former sexting partner sold her services via so-called “sugar daddy” Internet sites was not exactly shocking to anyone who has paid attention to the mores and manners of American youth in the past couple of decades. Popular culture has been so corrupt for so long that many young people are incapable of making any distinction between vice and virtue, categories that sophisticated people are expected to reject

Edwin Alemany is a career criminal and he had an EBT card. Stop me if you’ve heard this one before. The Mass. Republican Party got it right in a tweet yesterday. Not everyone with an EBT card is a criminal, but it appears that every criminal has an EBT card. Of course Gov. Deval Patrick would dismiss this as just another “anecdote.” Please don’t ask why the state is supporting a guy who has 10 convictions at age 28, not to mention 52 citations on his CORI record. His welfare records are sealed, you understand. Alemany has his rights,

Chris Christie and Rand Paul are in the midst of a food fight. Not literally, but very much figuratively. Their debate has devolved from one about warrantless federal surveillance programs to the question of which state, New Jersey or Kentucky, receives more “pork.” You can read some of the lowlights here. For the record, I’m with Christie on the original issue — warrantless federal surveillance programs — and agnostic on the question of who is the bigger porker. Both Christie and Paul probably would like to be president. Indeed, their food fight appears to represent the preliminary round

Anthony Weiner had a good life: a congressman who was a possible heir to the Chuck Schumer throne and married to the adoptive daughter of the Clintons. The nation´s leading climate change advocate, former Vice President Al Gore, is creating a mini army of "climate leaders" to push governments and companies around the world to adopt policies aimed at reducing global warming. On Wednesday in Chicago Gore will host his second "climate reality leadership corps training" this year where his Climate Reality Project will show supporters how to talk about the issue and push for solutions to carbon burning. Just last month, he held a similar event in Istanbul where one attendee said she was "moved to tears" when Gore spoke about global warming.

The news that NBC is planning to film a miniseries on the life of Hillary Clinton may be interpreted in some quarters as just another lollipop being thrown by the network at its Democratic crush. The movie will star actress Diane Lane as the former first lady, senator, and secretary of state and will cover her life from the 1998 Monica Lewinsky scandal up until the present day. Though we are told the work would include “aspects that were both critical of Mrs. Clinton and supportive of her,” it’s not likely the network with a cable news outlet

There has been a fair amount of discussion in recent days about whether Republicans should try to defund Obamacare. The instinct to do something about Obamacare is right. But Republicans can learn something from the American people. As polls have consistently shown, Americans like the idea of delaying—and of repealing—Obamacare. But they don’t like the sound of defunding it. In terms of policy, either approach would produce essentially the same result. (Whether the Obamacare exchanges are delayed for a year, or its exchange subsidies are defunded for a year, the result would be no taxpayer-funded Obamacare exchanges next year.)
