Ya know...the guvment, in its various divisions, has been buying up huge quantities of ammunition. I wonder if the real drive behind this is to simply limit the amount available to the public?

I went to a gun show today and some booth was trying to sell 525 rounds for $100. Crazy.

Running low? Good grief. I felt lucky to find a beat up box of .30 carbine and a box of .308 at a local store a couple weeks ago. Most of the internet sites are out of almost everything. What they do have has gone up in price like crazy. Corrosive .30 Tokarev was $90 a case a couple years ago. Now it is close to $200 when you can find it.
I suspect it is too late to do much stocking up. What you have now is what you are going to have for a while.

Dude, you can´t even find .22s on the shelves here. Academy instituted a ´never again´ policy after they sold out after Obama was elected - they´d stock so much they´d never run out again. ´Never again´ came again! Nothing on the shelves - well, I guess if you have a 45-70 or a .38 special, they had a few boxes . . .

Even components for reloading are out of stock.
No bullets, primers, powder or brass.
People are voting with their wallets.

Yup. 525 rounds brick for $100 is about right for today, was $80 a week ago.
Spent the week looking for generic .22s and there is none to be had in Austin or central Houston stores.
Most of them are also out of most common pistol and non-hunting rounds.

Plenty of 7mm RUM though($57/20).

You either had stocked up for 2012, got gouged after Christmas, or got bupkis.

With this situation I suspect there won´t be very many shooters burning through much at the shooting range either. Use it now, you won´t be able to replace it.

Yup, I sadly agree with #8. I´ve only got a few thousand rounds of ammo. I´m not gonna be burning it up at the range any time soon.

#1, my guess is that Obama´s federal agencies have purposely been buying unprecedented massive amounts of ammo to (a) dry up supply, and (b) skyrocket the prices. Mission accomplished on both objectives.

I guess nobody has thought to ask the ammo manufacturers what´s going on.

Everything is proceeding according to plan.

#13, what´s going on is people are buying ammo now, fearing it won´t be available in the future. It´s nothing new. Stores are getting stuff in, but it sells out within 24 hours.

I imagine some of the people quoted in the article actually voted democrat in the last election. Here is your payback for being that foolish.

I´m not usually a very good planner. However, in 2008, I did plan for this.

The executives in the ammunition industry could stop supplying the government with ammo to be used to kill Americans and supply American citizens with ammo to be used to protect their 2nd amendment rights.
