Yitzkah Gershon is a 32-year veteran of commanding troops in the IDF, which have counted women among its frontline troops for decades. Not only should we go slow, but consider the difference in our militaries. Israel: country is small, wars are on home turf, no long patrols and deployments. US: around the world, long deployments far from home with long patrols and must carry own materials long distances. Not defense of home turf. Therefore, very different physical and mental stresses.

This is a terrible idea. This whole push is a recycle of the ERA argument.
Women are not physically built for the infantry. The deployment of women, duplication of accommodations, lowering of standards is TERRIBLE at this time of budget cuts! WHAT ARE THEY THINKING?
If we replace our already "cut into the bone" military with weaker women who have a tendency to get pregnant when we need them, then what do we do?

The question is not what women CAN do but what women SHOULD do. The fanatical pursuit of equality resembles that of Captain Ahab looking for Moby Dick. Fanaticism and tunnel vision with their associated lack of context lead to unanticipated and undesirable results. The idea espoused by this retired general that putting women in combat positions has something to do with their future material success in civilian life is, to say the least, dubious. Putting women in combat positions has nothing to do with anything related to the real world. It is a symbolic move which purports to prove something, i.e. that women are just as good if not better than men. There are of course individuals for whom this is a matter of pressing personal importance - but it is a psychological issue, not an economic or practical one. The latter are rationalizations for what older generations called phallic protest and penis envy, terms that are scandalously politically incorrect today.
Do we want to be the kind of nation and have the kind of values that places young women in danger in order to prove they are just as good as men? Violence and aggression by women in popular entertainment has skyrocketed for the same reason, to prove that they can be just as rough, tough, murderous and dangerous as men.

COLUMBIA—South Carolina’s unemployment agency will lay off 100 employees in June as part of a statewide reorganization that directs anyone seeking jobless benefits to use its upgraded online system, the agency’s interim director announced. John Finan said the Department of Employment and Workforce will eliminate one-on-one help with unemployment claims on June 10, and the number of local offices offering job training and other re-employment services will shrink. Exactly how many of those 56 offices remain open past June will depend on decisions made by the state’s 12 workforce investment boards, he said.
