And when the truth came out that he never flew in combat (probably because of his lack of piloting skills) he admitted to his lie, and in spite of that, was reelected.

harkin was on stage standing just behind howard dean during the famous "eeeoooooooo" speech. The expression on harkin´s face was priceless when dean came off the track.

To those who say his replacement could not be worse - there can ALWAYS be worse.

I am orginally from Iowa and I don´t think of it as having many conservatives there. Conservative farmers live in Nebraska. In Iowa, they are takers. And yes, I know there are some conservatives there, I have a lot of family still living in the state but overall, most Iowans vote democrat.

This man has never worked a day in his life and is retiring as a wealthy man. I live in the district where he began his career as a congressman...a district heavy with older people who he convinced would be deprived of their SS if a Republican were elected. He couldn´t care less about Iowa...from the day he moved to Washington he never intended to live another day here. He came back only for fund raisers and when he absolutely had to come for re-election purposes. Democrats are Democrats wherever they are from and our few cities are heavily union. Iowa Democrats will vote for their man no matter what so don´t lay this on all Iowans.
