After Mike Bloomberg´s rule for
hospitals, FDA panel votes to
restrict use of painkillers

Washington Examiner, by Joel Gehrke

Original Article

Federal Drug Administration advisers voted today to restrict access to certain kinds of prescription drugs in an effort to fight drug abuse. The vote had experts divided over the risk of drug abuse as weighed against the risk of increased pain or difficulty for patients on the medication. “It will have an impact on a lot of patients who have been receiving them for some time for legitimate purposes,” Dr. Lynn Webster, president-elect of the American Academy of Pain Medicine, said per Health Day News ahead of the vote. The FDA rule change is designed to implement

Comments:
Once again an agency goes around congress. Note that Senate passed a rule change to implement the policy and the House killed it. This regime is out of control. This regime is completely out of control. The courts sure are going to be busy in the next four years.

Governor Hickenlooper of Colorado has followed Bloomers lead and is now enforcing the same hospital restrictions.

Just another part of the plan. Less pains meds, more pain, more resulting deaths, including suicides. Red pill or blue pill? How about neither?

Two years ago it was: "No surgery for you...take this pain pill."

Now it´s:"Hurry up and die...untended in the hallway...in pain."

Bloomburg says, so what if you have a little pain.
Under his plan, pain med refills cannot be called in, faxed in, and are not refillable. That is a HUGE obstacle for many people to overcome--going to the doctor´s office to pick up a refill.
So, we punish the sick and elderly because of the drug abuse of miscreants? I say give out as much painkillers, free and in whatever quantity desired. Let the miscreants abuse them and die off to thin the herd of undesirables.
Nanny Bloomburg thus makes this imperial proclamation.

So NYC Mayor Bloomberg doesn´t think this will harm patients?

“Number one, there’s no evidence of that,” Bloomberg said. “Number two, supposing it is really true, so you didn’t get enough painkillers and you did have to suffer a little bit. The other side of the coin is people are dying and there’s nothing perfect.”

Is there no end to Bloomberg´s arrogance?

I´d like to add that yes, having uncontrolled pain CAN harm people. When people have unmanaged pain, they are less likely to move, less likely to participate in exercise. For some, this could mean increased risk for pneumonia, bedsores, blood clots, etc.

Also, as a home health care RN, I want to emphasize how very difficult it can be for some patients to leave their homes, often because of the very pain that needs to be controlled. Many health care providers have no clue about this. It IS a big deal for some patients to have to increase their doctor visits to four times per year instead of two in order to get their prescriptions refilled.

I´m also appalled that a so-called "pain management specialist" thinks this is no big deal.

Evidently, we and our doctors are too stupid to decide what´s best. We need mindless bureaucrats following the script handed to them by legislators to make these decisions for us.

On an unrelated topic, has anyone else noticed how ammo has REALLY gone up in price? Funny, that.

Ridiculous regulation. Druggies will still have drugs, gang-bangers will still have guns.

Innocent citizens will pay for the crimes of the criminals. They are killing us softly with their regulations.

Bloomberg should go through some procedure like a Radical Prostatectomy and go home with a Foley Catheter inserted to pee through and go through the recovery period with minimal or reduced pain medication. I did it and was really thankful that I had ample pain medication. If I was confronted by a rule by some pompous ass of a politician that said that I had to suffer I would likely have resorted to--- Well, lets us say that I would have not been a happy camper.

People go through lots of different procedures that are radical in nature that result in lots of pain. This is not going to go over so well with patients and Doctors. I can imagine that they will just ignore the rules. Another example of citizens reduced to being lawbreakers for living normal lives.

Like guns, with-holding pain management medication will result in a lot of people stocking up on it when ever they can. Throw it away when it expires??? Are you crazy?

And yes, I have noticed first hand how expensive ammo is.

So you didn´t get enough painkillers. Who cares? The important thing is to keep drugs out of the hands of those who shouldn´t have them...

How´s that War on Drugs working for you now?

In the UK they have the LCP (Liverpool Care Protocol) where the doctor decides who is unlikely to survive and give them pain killers but withholds fluids and nourishment until the patient dies.

Now Bloomberg offers the BCL (Bloomberg Cares Less) which is to withhold fluids, nourishment and painkillers.

I think Bloomberg is Obama´s trial ballooner. Once Obama sees the feedback, he knows how to squash it. Saying that making peeps in pain suffer is a fair trade off if it keeps drugs from dopers lacks any compassion, I can´t breath.

Now let´s back up a couple years, when Obama decided things like hip replacements are wasted on old peeps so we should consider just giving them pain meds instead. Now he´s limiting the pain meds! I guess he wants old folks to beg for euthanasia.
