| One of our Tatler readers alerted me to this story in comments on another post. It seems that GEICO, the insurance company whose ads feature cavemen, Eddie Money, two bluegrass pickers and a loveable gecko from origins unknown, has canceled a customer’s policy because the customer is engaged in the firearms industry. Here is the letter that GEICO sent to the canceled customer. Click to enlarge. The letter was originally posted here, with little context to explain it. The blog Moonbattery picked it up, which is where our reader saw it. What’s going on here? The letter is straightforward.

This move by Geico sucks and could be enough to justify a boycott of some kind.
I´m at a loss, however, to guess what this has to do with the Second Amendment. Where does the government figure into this, and how does this no-insuring-gun-industry-workers policy transgress constitutional restraints on governmental powers?

The vehicle is used in the "weapons industry"? And that somehow is a liability. Interesting. Particularly since, as another commenter pointed out, GEICO started out insuring government employees. And quite a few of them work with weapons.
(IMO, the Second Amendment doesn´t apply. GEICO is a private company, and I´ll support their freedom to discriminate. Of course, discrimination goes both ways and I can spend my insurance dollars elsewhere.)

Gotta be fast around here--#s 4 and 5 both beat me to it--GEICO can´t trample the @nd Amendment. I expect there are other issues involved here too--but maybe not, maybe GEICO is just being stupid.

The policy is under a fictitious business name, LLC. Not a private policy. There´s a difference. I was able to download the letter, adjust the levels and read all the redacted info.

This sounds like a GREAT opportunity for the NRA to create an insurance sideline business, just as AARP does.
I would cancel my homeowner and auto policies of 39 years and go with NRA.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
