Hey this is great, Democrat leadership! Promise that the GOP will allow both the gun ban and the Obama budget to get to the floor of the Senate for a vote. Then vote present until all the Democrats have voted. It may even be worthwhile to let the budget actually get 51 votes so it can go to reconciliation with the House approved budgets. Just think of the Won having to veto a budget.

This draconian "assault weapons" ban is a red herring. Of course it won´t pass; it wasn´t supposed to pass.

Now the Senate is going to have to *do* something. So they´ll stiffen background check requirements. They´ll ´close the gun show loophole´. They´ll maybe demand that some weapons be registered.

Everything proposed will (almost by definition) be more "reasonable" than Feinstein´s ban, and thus will be harder to oppose.

Of course they don´t have the votes, they are all Morons!

Didn´t we hear the same thing about Obamacare and yet enough arms were twisted and goodies passed out to pass it? Obama will "find" the votes. Count on it. Let the Senate Democrats pass the ban. Get them on record. Then shoot it down in the House, and leave the stink on the Dems for the 2014 election. I say, contact the wavering Senators and tell them you´re a red-fanged gun owner, and you want them to vote for the ban. See if they can process that.

If only I thought our politicians were, in their hearts and minds, doing the right thing and upholding our Constitution, this would comfort me. The way to deal with the registration issue is to apply the same rules to anyone who pays for someone who will be armed in their presence. They should go into a searchable data base. They should get a psychiatric evaluation.

Here is the hang up that the liberal Democrats have to get through in order to pass their gun ban. The Democrats have to defend 20 Senate seats in the election next year plus all their seats in the House of Representatives. If the Senate votes on the gun ban those 20 Democrat Senators who are up for re-election, a few may retire, will have to show their hand, and if they vote for the gun ban some of them will not be re-elected you can bet on that. The Democrats also want to levy a $200.00 tax on each gun already owned by law abiding Americans, if you own 10 guns you get to pay a $2,000.00 tax, that´s going to go over like a lead balloon. So unless in looks like the Democrats have the votes to also pass their gun ban in the House of Representatives, it is doubtful that the Democrats will show their hand in the Senate by voting for a gun ban that will not pass the House. Since the House is controlled by the Republicans it is very doubtful that any such over reaching Democrat gun ban bill could pass there. You can safely bet that any Republican who would vote for such a bill will be opposed in the next Republican primaries with a lot of them becoming unelectable in the following general election. So no matter what the Obama propaganda machine pumps out, the Democrats getting any sort of a gun ban through the Congress is a steep uphill battle that just gives Obama the opportunity to travel outside Washington, DC and politically posture against the Republicans. That does not mean that everybody should not pay attention, and certainly should make their views known to their congressional representatives.
