Assault Weapons Ban Lacks Democratic Votes to Pass Senate

| A proposed ban on sales of assault weapons would be defeated in the U.S. Senate today unless some members changed their current views, based on a Bloomberg review of recent lawmaker statements and interviews. At least six of the 55 senators who caucus with Democrats have recently expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban, the review found. That means Democrats wouldn’t have a simple 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 votes needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote. A ban on the military-style weapons is among the

They´ll ban firearms via regulations, ergo, the article about Geico refusing to issue car insurance to gun owners or affiliates of gun mfg´s. Someone smarter than I needs to file a class action lawsuit on behalf of all gun owners.

For only today Bloomberg posits that Democrats won´t pass it, informally polling and guessing the rest.
Tomorrow is another day. When the arms are twisted off and a few personal scandals are threatening them, or their family, they will be extorted and will be coming around.
The extortables are the type they support and want in high office.

Everyone in the Senate should be opposed to such a bill if they were living up to the oaths they took. It´s a disgrace that the vote would be that close.

Hey this is great, Democrat leadership! Promise that the GOP will allow both the gun ban and the Obama budget to get to the floor of the Senate for a vote. Then vote present until all the Democrats have voted. It may even be worthwhile to let the budget actually get 51 votes so it can go to reconciliation with the House approved budgets. Just think of the Won having to veto a budget.

This draconian "assault weapons" ban is a red herring. Of course it won´t pass; it wasn´t supposed to pass.
Now the Senate is going to have to *do* something. So they´ll stiffen background check requirements. They´ll ´close the gun show loophole´. They´ll maybe demand that some weapons be registered.
Everything proposed will (almost by definition) be more "reasonable" than Feinstein´s ban, and thus will be harder to oppose.

Didn´t we hear the same thing about Obamacare and yet enough arms were twisted and goodies passed out to pass it? Obama will "find" the votes. Count on it. Gun control is their Holy Grail and the rest of their agenda depends on. It will pass and then when the government comes for our guns, Obama will put the hammer down. Well, at least that was the nightmare I had last night. Whew, that was a little unsettling. After all, that could never happen in this country, right?

We can play that game too with this illegal, no-accountability government. We will not comply, register or give up anything because the whole concept is unconstitutional. If the dumb dems vote the wrong way, they will realize their mistake when the door-to-door operations start and they realize who holds the real power.

Alas, I think the majority of those creatures don´t even know what that wonderful document is. It is for some other reason they won´t vote for it. The gun culture is a respected, important part of America, like the small plane flying culture, like the hunting culture, like the fly fishing culture, like the old ham radio culture, like the hot rod culture, the Harley culture, the country music culture, it is rock solid imbedded in all of our every day lives. And we all know we would prefer to have an armed next door neighbor, than a dis-armed no guns thank you neighbor, simply for our own family´s added protection. Not even a democrat who practices and spouts communism in his greed built soft job in Washington, wants to vote against the most solid culture in his voting constituency. Even a stupid commie democrat KNOWS he cannot destroy his voters support with this gun banning trash. Diane Feinstein, gun toting Feinstein is the most ridiculous hypocrit of them all. She is sbsurd, stupidly contradicting herself thinking she can ditch her own gun collection and create a last minute gun destroying band wagon. Is she totally nuts? Throw her out of office!

#11 nails it. The AW Ban is the distraction, the magician´s hand that you are supposed to stay focussed on, while he picks your pocket with the other.
They only need to keep taking nibbles out of our rights, and doing "reasonable" restrictions. We now have 25,000 nibbles out of our rights.
We HAVE TO stop the "gun show loophole" lie, THIS IS UNIVERSAL GUN REGISTRATION.
This has been their HOLY GRAIL for the last 50 years, and they are using the AW Ban as a stalking horse to get gun registration. If private sales are illegal, eventually ALL guns will be illegal or registered. Then they can tax and confiscate at will.
As long as guns are freely bought and sold without government permission and controls, we are free people. Once this is gone it is gone FOREVER.

Here is the hang up that the liberal Democrats have to get through in order to pass their gun ban. The Democrats have to defend 20 Senate seats in the election next year plus all their seats in the House of Representatives. If the Senate votes on the gun ban those 20 Democrat Senators who are up for re-election, a few may retire, will have to show their hand, and if they vote for the gun ban some of them will not be re-elected you can bet on that. The Democrats also want to levy a $200.00 tax on each gun already owned by law abiding Americans, if you own 10 guns you get to pay a $2,000.00 tax, that´s going to go over like a lead balloon. So unless in looks like the Democrats have the votes to also pass their gun ban in the House of Representatives, it is doubtful that the Democrats will show their hand in the Senate by voting for a gun ban that will not pass the House. Since the House is controlled by the Republicans it is very doubtful that any such over reaching Democrat gun ban bill could pass there. You can safely bet that any Republican who would vote for such a bill will be opposed in the next Republican primaries with a lot of them becoming unelectable in the following general election. So no matter what the Obama propaganda machine pumps out, the Democrats getting any sort of a gun ban through the Congress is a steep uphill battle that just gives Obama the opportunity to travel outside Washington, DC and politically posture against the Republicans. That does not mean that everybody should not pay attention, and certainly should make their views known to their congressional representatives.

In 1927, Jozef Stalin summoned the Russian neurologist Bekhterev to give a medical examination of the dictator. Later that day, Bekhterev returned to a medical meeting and told colleagues, "I have just examined a paranoiac with a short, dry hand." Stalin´s left arm was shorter and weaker than the other. The following day, Bekhterev was poisoned and died. He was killed for calling Stalin a "paranoiac." Is the Constitution becoming the left´s new target? That thought struck me the other night over dinner with my liberal friend, a lawyer and part-time professor. Among his choice statements, "Maybe it´s time to get rid of the Constitution and start over." No doubt he was echoing the sentiments of Georgetown law professor, Louis Michael Seidman, who suggested just that in a New York Times op-ed. It´s been several weeks since Seidman made his remarks, and now, it appears, the floodgates are open. Liberals feel they can speak freely about their true intentions for our country.

For the first time in my adult life, I am not proud of the First Lady. Mrs. Obama is frequently compared to Marie Antoinette. She spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on her own pleasure and aggrandizement while urging the peasants to plant gardens. And for the first time in American history, we have a president who insults us across the world, disavows the idea that American is special, enriches our enemies such as the Muslim Brotherhood, and degrades our achievements ("You didn´t build that."). Metaracism instilled in the Obamas the tragedy of ingratitude.

Obama now reigns over Versailles on the Potomac. And America´s taxpayers are the vassals who bankroll the opulence of King Louis-Barack and Michelle Antoinette." Deroy Murdock (Hoover Institute, Scripts Howard) nails it in his National Review article. King Louis-Barack and his family really know how to share your pain. The "we´re all in this together" seer of America´s hope and change takes our bucks and we keep the change. "Let them eat lentils" is Michelle Antoinette´s airy solution to her growing food-stamp constituency (is M-Antoinette embarrassed at the girth of her loyal cohort?).

The lousy March jobs report jolted financial markets Friday, and understandably so. In a trend that has defined this weakest of all modern economic recoveries, the jobless rate keeps falling but largely because the labor force keeps shrinking. The unemployment rate fell to a new four-year low of 7.6%, from 7.7% in February. Good news, except the main reason for the decline was that nearly half a million Americans (496,000) left the civilian labor force. They retired, quit working, went back to school or gave up looking for work. The economy created a net 88,000 new jobs

THE elementary-school shootings in Newtown, Conn., in December produced two polar public reactions: fear among some Americans that the federal government will restrict gun rights, and hope among others that it will actually do so. Colorado, New York State and, most recently, Connecticut have clamped down on guns, while states like Texas, where I live, are considering legislation that would try to block the enforcement of federal gun regulations. The uncertain approach to guns is good for no one, except perhaps for gunmakers, whose sales have skyrocketed. Lost in this confusion and anxiety is the possibility

Politics: Democrats were quick to blame the anemic March jobs number on the "sequester" spending cuts. If that were the case, what explains the previous four years of lousy job growth under Obama? At 88,000, the jobs growth in March was well below expectations. And while the unemployment rate dropped, that was the result of hundreds of thousands dropping out of the labor force who as a result aren´t counted as unemployed. Democrats, of course, tried to pin the blame for this on Republicans for allegedly pushing austerity measures. White House economic adviser Alan Krueger complained

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? To hear some tell it, her decision will be dispositive for all other Democrats thinking of entering the race. And pundits and reporters aren´t the only ones positing the "The Hillary Factor": No less than the House Democratic whip, Steny Hoyer, told BuzzFeed, “I don´t know that anybody would run against Hillary…. If she runs, she clears the field.” It´s an understandable conclusion, given Clinton´s stature in the Democratic Party and her 70 percent

I hope all will look at a lifetime of service over some poorly chosen words.” Carson will remain as commencement speaker at Johns Hopkins,

On Friday, Sean Hannity brought Pat Smith, mother of the late Sean Smith, on his radio program. The 34-year-old information management officer was one of four Americans murdered in the Benghazi embassy attack on September 11, 2012. In the chilling interview, a distraught Ms. Smith, in tears, pleaded for answers and spoke of the efforts to silence her. Ms. Smith first relayed how her son, prior to the attack, requested additional security in advance and warned the State Department: He did tell them, ahead of time, he typed it into his little typewriter over there,

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank

The Obama White House is scrambling to blame Friday’s abysmal March jobs numbers on the sequester’s trimming of the rate of growth in federal budgets that have yet to fully commence. After the Labor Department announced that a mass exodus of 663,000 workers left the U.S. workforce last month and that job creation fell 112,000 jobs short of projections, Obama’s top economic adviser Alan B. Krueger, took to the White House blog to blame the sequester: It is important to bear in mind that the March household and payroll surveys are the first monthly surveys to look

Susan Patton, the Princeton alumna who became famous for her letter urging Ivy League women to use their college years to find a mate, has been denounced as a traitor to feminism, to coeducation, to the university ideal. But really she’s something much more interesting: a traitor to her class. Her betrayal consists of being gauche enough to acknowledge publicly a truth that everyone who’s come up through Ivy League culture knows intuitively —

Beyonce and Jay-Z celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary in Cuba this week. The couple, who married on April 4, 2008, took in the sights of Old Havana, visited a school, dined on a rooftop terrace and strolled the fan-filled streets in their island best.(snip).The power couple declined to answer journalists´ questions about their visit to the island nation, but some outlets are reporting that the moguls are there as tourists, though that would be illegal because of the half-century embargo the U.S. has on the Communist country. However, the Miami Herald said Washington has issued special licenses for

The budget President Barack Obama will submit on April 10 will contain a proposal that would prohibit individuals from accumulating more than $3 million in Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and tax-preferred retirement accounts. According to a White House statement, the Obama administration believes the current rules allow some wealthy individuals "to accumulate many millions of dollars in these accounts, substantially more than is needed to fund reasonable levels of retirement saving." "The budget would limit an individual’s total balance across tax-preferred accounts to an amount sufficient to finance an annuity of not more than $205,000 per
