| Let us not waste another breath responding to the mock outrage with which progressives react to accusations such as Sarah Palin´s "death panel" remark. Whether ObamaCare´s Independent Payment Advisory Board should correctly be described as a "death panel" or a "cost-reduction system" is actually a stale semantics debate, given that when they are not acting outraged, leftists explain their real intentions quite clearly. Cutting to the chase, the proper question to ask is, "Why are progressives willing to condemn the old and infirm to death?"

Good grief, what are few old geezers after that? They have seared consciences, if they ever had any. Just like Stalin. Kill a few and its a tragedy. Kill millions and its a statistic. We are going to see the government proclaim that the poor should be just as well taken care of as the wealthy (sounds good, doesn’t it?) so, the wealthy should not be permitted to buy better care than the poor. It should be illegal, in other words to go outside the system, for MD’s to contract privately to provide care to the wealthy.
Won’t happen, you say. That’s precisely what the Canadian system did and does. It can happen. Just watch how long it is before the Left rises up against the burgeoning “concierge practices.”

This is nothing new. It appears to be an offshoot of the eugenics movement of the early to mid 1900´s. The goal was to rid society of those who were a burden. This included the old, the sick and the mentally ill. It was championed by the intellectual elites and carried out by tyrants.
The rider may change, but its the same old horse. Today´s rider is the democrat party.
Its an easy idea to get behind if you can completely set aside compassion and humanity.

It´s one thing for President Obama to be cocky and overstate his prowess at governing. People are used to politicians grabbing credit, and besides, you can always rationalize when it comes to explaining why things didn´t quite work out as you claimed they would - "the sequester ate my recovery" being the latest successful-enough example. But sports is something else. The basketball either goes through the hoop or it doesn´t. That´s why President Obama´s history of braggadocio regarding his prowess at hoops is having a potent effect on his overall public image, especially with those who are favorably inclined to him.

Over at Salon, Chris Stedman, the Assistant Humanist Chaplain and the Values in Action Coordinator for the Humanist Community at Harvard, has published a vicious piece attacking me for calling attention to the persecution of gays under Islamic law. This comes just days after San Francisco´s Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a resolution condemning my ads standing up for gays. During his two day flurry of fundraising in Northern California, the President of the United States took it upon himself (and allow to be released to the public - not all of his fundraising comments make it to the masses) to praise the attractiveness of Kamala Harris, California Attorney General (snip) The remark, predictably, generated a little of what Allahpundit called a ´Blue on blue food fight." I suspect that was the intention. The president´s image as a manly man took a beating when he missed 20 of 22 basketball shots, all recorded on video.

The CEO of Starbucks basically told a shareholder that if the shareholder believes in traditional marriage he should dump his Starbucks stock. Historically the job of the CEO has been to make money and increase shareholder value. It would seem telling people who don´t share the CEO´s personal beliefs, whether it´s gay marriage or abortion, to dump the companies stock is not a pro-shareholder action. The Great State of Indiana is about to test statewide school choice on a meaningful scale. In the girl section of the Wall Street Journal last weekend Matt Ridley had an article on nice vs. nasty, cooperation vs. competition. Researchers have found, he writes, that families that stay together cooperate better than families that are far apart. This is not the first work to find mathematical evidence that there are conditions under which cooperative behavior drives out selfish behavior... So long as there is little geographic mobility, clusters of networked kin and friends develop, putting an advantage on being nice. Who knew?
