It happens in Grenada Mississippi too. At a restaurant that doesn´t take credit cards or checks, I saw a patron arrested for not having the cash on hand to cover his tab.

There´s a lot of people that steal meals claiming they´ll be back with the money. I don´t blame the restaurant for not letting him walk out without paying. Besides, if he had an phone with him, call someone to bring your wallet to you.

Assuming his story was true, this is just one more example of the death of common sense.
My wallet fell out of my jacket pocket at the doctor´s office the other day. I was heading out to lunch afterwards. Fortunately, the doctor´s receptionist saw my wallet and returned it to me.
You can lose you wallet. It happens. It was a brand new jacket and the pocket just wasn´t quite right for storing a wallet but I didn´t realize it until it fell out. That does not make me a criminal.
A simple solution, check your money before you order.
On the other hand, this guy is a lawyer. Never trust a lawyer.

#3, read the opening to the story. The guy is from Italy. He´s a tourist. How much of a regular can he be? It´s not like he´s there three times a week.
Also, how did he get there without a wallet? He left it 30 blocks away? We´re supposed to believe he walked 30 blocks to grab dinner or a cabbie let him have a free ride.

This article is amusing on several levels. However, I´ll address the one with which I am most familiar: the sense of humor and game-playing of the Southern Italian man.

I was eating at Corky and Lenny´s in Cleveland one night with friends. I thought I had enough to cover the bill, but had forgotten I spent some money earlier in the day. I had my ATM card and driver´s license in my wallet. I asked them if I could leave my wallet with them and go to the ATM right across the street, visible from the lobby. They called the cops on me. When the cops came, they asked the manager what his problem was, that they didn´t have time for that kind of nonsense. They wanted to press charges. The cops said "For what?" and walked me 50 feet to the ATM machine.

I live in a different State, but my frequent visits to the area allow me to become a ´regular´.
