The sudden ferment on this issue, which was largely dormant since efforts at comprehensive reform were torpedoed five years ago, is as welcome as it is overdue. I read that piece with my breakfast. There are some good points in it. I´m hopeful some posters will take the time to read it before knee-jerking to an anti-Jeb response. Simply listening to his ideas doesn´t mean anyone has to vote for him, for goodness sake.

And, oddly enough, the possibility of obeying, honoring, and enforcing the laws that have been in place for a good while, seems to have never been considered. So much for the concept of a nation of law. Just go by whatever you can get away with.

No, the best way is to enforce your laws and the border. While not suggesting such draconian measures, the Eastern Europeans controlled their borders so well that it was news when people got out. There is much, much more at work in immigration policy than anyone wants to discuss. The government elites have ordained border jumping is okay, Republican and Democrat administrations alike refusing to enforce our last reform, saying THIS NEXT reform will fix the problem permanently. Liars, all.

Jeb always says there is a growing consensus on both sides of the aisle when democrats are in charge. Since democrats have the votes, what is going to be done is amnesty and open borders, and Jeb is going to have no voice in the matter, unless he agrees with amnesty and open borders. I am actually very tired of the Bushes, the Clintons, the Kennedys. Now we have Mohammed Obama.

Why is it that we out here in flyover country know how to "fix" this problem? Enforce the current laws, close the borders, round up and kick out ALL illegals. Prosecute any and all who hide or support illegals. Pass laws to ban "anchor babies." How difficult is this to accomplish? There are untold thousands of retired military and law enforcement types who would probably volunteer their services to accomplish these things. I know I would.....

The illegal immigration battle we are up against brings back bad memories of the disingenuous democrat strategy employed in debt ceiling, out of control spending debates where liberals get tax increases, and in return the GOP receives a promise of future spending cuts that never happen. The GOP simply cannot accept any form of "path to citizenship" aka amnesty bills before the border is secured. Close the border, and then we will talk.

And just how would you accomplish that? Just locating them would be a near-impossible task, then they would be given a legal process. While that is taking place, there has to be a place to put them. Plus, there are the children and spouses to consider.
Maybe you know how to "fix" this, I´d love to hear.

USA immigration policies revolve around the family unification objective rather than law enforcement. It´s all about the "family." Therefore, it´s not “fair” to deport dad, because mom and the anchor babies are here legally, securely connected to the social services lifeline. It’s hopeless. We are overwhelmed. In 20 years you won’t recognize this country. I hope I don’t live to see the downfall.

Ready solution: announce that the next hundred illegal immigrants detected crossing the border will be shot on sight and carry out the threat. We are fooling ourselves if we we think we can prevent illegal entry without imposing sure,swift, severe injury.

Per the Constitution, a President appoints cabinet members "by and with the Advice and Consent of the Senate." In the matter of Chuck Hagel´s move to the Pentagon, the Senate´s Democratic majority is more or less waiving this clause and rolling over to President Obama´s wishes. It´s not that Democrats don´t have serious doubts about the former Republican Senator´s record and qualifications. Senate Armed Services Chairman Carl Levin started last month´s nomination hearing by enumerating them, from Mr. Hagel´s long-standing opposition to sanctions on Iran to his warnings about the influence of a "Jewish lobby."

When Michigan became the 24th right-to-work state late last year, everyone knew unions would try to overturn or otherwise neuter the law. That´s the message from a December 27-28 memo to local union presidents and board members from Michigan Education Association President Steven Cook, which recommends tactics that unions can use to dilute the impact of the right-to-work law. One bright idea is to renegotiate contracts now to lock teachers into paying union dues after the right-to-work law goes into effect in March. Another is to sue their own members who try to leave.

This is Catholic Schools Week, when dioceses across the country celebrate the great gifts that are our Catholic schools. It has been a somewhat somber Catholic Schools Week for me, since in the Archdiocese of New York we recently announced that 24 of our schools will be closing at the end of this academic year. According to the National Catholic Education Association, the closings will join a national trend that has seen Catholic-school enrollment in the U.S. decline by 23.4% since 2000, a loss of 621,583 students. It is sometimes hard to understand why enrollment has dropped.

RUSH: Folks, I don´t know how else to categorize this. We are living in a dying country. I don´t know how else to categorize what´s happening -- 88,000 new jobs. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
