States’ crime rates show
scant linkage to gun laws

Washington Times, by David Sherfinski

Original Article

Posted By:Drive, 1/25/2013 7:09:00 AM

President Obama has called for stricter federal gun laws to combat recent shooting rampages, but a review of recent state laws by The Washington Times shows no discernible correlation between stricter rules and lower gun-crime rates in the states. States that ranked high in terms of making records available to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System also tended to have tighter gun laws — but their gun-crime rates ranged widely. The same was true for states that ranked poorly on disclosure and were deemed to have much less stringent gun-possession laws.

Libnk to race is overlooked. African-Americans still account for nearly half the murders in America. But that too varies from state to state. Needless to say Vermont has no gun laws and a low murder rate. Hawaii is the lowest. Looking at murder by race shows you the key. But the law is not in the business of solving problems but rather gaining power

Looking at states doesn´t work. You need to look at the specific areas where violent crime tends to be: large urban areas. Then, you need to look at the specific areas in those cities where that crime takes place, and it´s usually limited to a few small neighborhoods. These are usually filled with gangs who deal drugs. This is the most common attribute violent cities have and it is these neighborhoods that need to be dealt with.

Cities like Seattle have strict gun laws and low violent crime. Cities like Chicago have strict gun laws and very high violent crime. Cities like Dallas have lax gun laws and high violent crime. Cities like Burlington, VT have low crime and the most relaxed gun laws in the nation.

It´s not the guns or the laws; it´s the people.

#3 nails it. The vast majority of killings occur in urban areas, and involve black-on-black crime and gang activity. Remove the black-on-black statistics from the survey and our violent crime rate is on par with that of "more civilized" countries of western Europe.

Welfare, a grievance culture, concentration of the underclass in housing projects and low rent districts, and the breakdown of the black family structure are the real root causes of the greatest part of the violence that happens in this country.

Yes, as Ann Coulter pointed out. If you look only at the gun crime rate for whites (and Asians), we have about the same gun crime rate as Belgium.

We don´t have a gun problem, we have a race problem.

Yesterday President Obama claimed that “more than 3 million young adults… have gained insurance under this law by staying on their family’s plan.” Indeed, the number of young people who can now stay on their parents’ insurance plans until age 26 — the so-called “slacker mandate” — is one of the most oft-repeated Obamacare statistics. The Los Angeles Times used it in a recent article to claim that because of Obamacare “at least 9.5 million previously uninsured people have gained coverage.” That included not only the 3.1 million young adults who are covered by their parents’ plans but also about 2

Twenty years ago it was the U.S. Postal Service that was the iconic example of what’s wrong with the federal government. The Post Office was big, bloated, and known for sketchy service. Making matters worse, the Post Office often appeared to be fighting off bankruptcy. Federal Express turned criticism of the Post Office into a major advertising campaign for its overnight delivery service. Today, the representative example of bad government is the Transportation Security Administration. TSA has a labor force of 65,000 employees. It has cost the American taxpayer about $75 billion. This includes more than $60 billion spent through 2012

Santiago, Chili-Authorities lifted tsunami warnings for Chile’s long coastline early Wednesday after a magnitude-8.2 earthquake struck the South American nation’s northern coast. Six people were crushed to death or suffered fatal heart attacks, a remarkably low toll for such a powerful shift in the Earth’s crust. The earthquake was so powerful, shaking was felt 300 miles away from its center in Bolivia’s capital, CBS News’ Vicente Arenas reports. The extent of damage from Tuesday night’s quake couldn’t be fully assessed before daybreak, President Michelle Bachelet said, but she wasn’t taking any chances. She declared a state of emergency in the region and

Some Republican fat cats are trying to coax former Florida governor Jeb Bush — brother and son to two former presidents — into making a bid for the White House. Democrats have been less subtle. They’ve created a super PAC called Ready for Hillary, which is only slightly less obvious a gesture than constructing a giant neon sign reading “Run, Hillary, Run.” For obvious reasons, these developments have generated a lot of discussion about political dynasties in America. That’s understandable. After all, in a democratic republic, the prospect of dynasties should make everyone at least a little uncomfortable.

The White House came under intense pressure Tuesday to deny entry to Iran’s new ambassador to the United Nations because he participated in the humiliating 1979-81 hostage crisis at the US Embassy in Tehran. Former hostage Barry Rosen said it would be “like spitting on us” if the Iranian diplomat — who may have been one of his captors — was granted entry. New York Sen. Charles Schumer took on the Obama administration by firing off a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry demanding that the US blacklist the new ambassador, Hamid Aboutalebi. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. Before getting to the speech itself, it’s worth noting a few things. When the Democrats passed and Barack Obama signed Obamacare, the majority opposed it. About 56%, in fact. A majority have consistently opposed that law ever since. The Obama administration touted 7 million sign-ups by March 31 as “success.” When that goal appeared to be unreachable, the administration suggested that maybe 5 or 6 million would be enough. Now, as if by magic, they have their number. Somehow. All along, the administration has touted false numbers of enrollees. A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,

The former two-term governor of Florida speaks fluent Spanish, is a convert to Catholicism, and has high name recognition. Jeb could raise millions of dollars over night by just saying “yes” to running. Despite all this, there are strong reasons Republicans should say no to him. 1. His last name is poison. Let’s face it, if Jeb Bush had the last name of Something Else he would have already run for president in 2008 or 2012. According to a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll registered voters were asked if they would definitely NOT vote for Jeb Bush and 50 percent said they would not.
