Last week, we learned of a secret State Department assessment that forces loyal to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad had recently used chemical weapons. The State Department cable, signed by the U.S. consul in Istanbul and based on interviews with doctors, defectors from the Syrian Army, and activists, made what one unnamed administration official called a “compelling case” that the Syrian military had used Agent 15, or BZ gas, in Homs last month against the Sunni-majority opposition. Nonetheless, within 24 hours, the State Department challenged the news report and the cable’s conclusion, stating

Secretary of State John Kerry today warned Russian President Vladimir Putin to stay clear of the political turmoil in Ukraine, adding that the U.S. doesn´t view the international tussle over the democratic movement in Kiev as a continuation of the Cold War. “We do not believe this should be an East-West, Russia-United States. This is not ‘Rocky IV´, believe me. We don´t see it that way,” Kerry said in a reference to the popular film in which Sylvester Stallone’s character is pitted against a Soviet bully. Appearing on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports,” Kerry urged Putin to be “very careful” as he plots

Massachusetts State Representatives, fed up with the lack of progress on the Justina Pelletier case, are circulating a resolution, requesting that the Department of Children and Families (DCF) begin the process of returning the teen to her parents. Justina has been in the state’s care for a year, when doctors at a Boston Hospital decided that she suffered from a somatoform disorder – an illness that is “all in her head” – and that her parents had been abusing her with the medical treatment that had been prescribed by her previous health care providers. Her parents, Lou and Linda Pelletier,

In Barack Obama´s first weeks in office, in a series of executive orders and public statements, the new president and former professor of constitutional law promised to make sweeping changes in the way government operated in a number of specific areas. But has he kept his pledges? Let´s consider four of them: Ending torture On his first day in office, Obama ordered an end to the practice of torture, or as the George W. Bush administration preferred to call it, "enhanced interrogation techniques." In the president´s words, "effective immediately" individuals in U.S. custody "shall not be subjected to any interrogation technique or approach,

As much as US prosecutors want to “get Shorty” — Mexican drug lord Joaquin Guzman — America needs to stand back and give Mexico some breathing room. Guzman, widely known as “El Chapo” (Shorty), is the biggest fish ever caught in the Mexican-American drug wars, snared over the weekend in the lovely (but very violent) Pacific resort of Matzatlan in his home state of Sinaloa. Proud Mexicans compare the bust of this head of the world’s most successful narco-operation, the Sinaloa Cartel, to our Osama bin Laden kill. But El Chapo is also wanted in five US states. ATF agents are losing track of their government-issued firearms, according to a new report, with records showing multiple instances where officers forgot their guns after leaving them on top of cars, in bathrooms and in automobile glove compartments. The incidents were catalogued in a report Wednesday by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Internal records obtained by the newspaper reportedly show ATF agents had their guns lost or stolen at least 45 times between 2009 and 2013. But the ATF sharply disputed the report, with a spokeswoman telling FoxNews.com that many of the lost weapons were later recovered. Spokeswoman Ginger Colbrun said
