| Trenton — New Jersey state officials have issued more than 1,200 registrations to out-of-state contractors since Nov. 1 for post-storm cleanup. Some New Jersey-based companies say they´re worried that contractors from other states will flood the market. NJ officials doing everything they can to see that tax dollars stolen from the lesser 49 are spent wisely. Which, to a Jersey official, means the money goes to connected union crooks and various other cronies, with appropriate padding of costs.

BEWARE, BEWARE, be very aware that many gypsy contractors come into a state after a disaster. You give them up front money and they disappear. This happened all over south Florida after Andrew and it happens in every disaster. If they don´t disappear immediately, they can disappear after one of the other payment draws and you are left with everything torn out and incomplete. If you can, hire a local contractor that comes with recommendations. If you can´t do that, stay ahead of the contractor with the money and pay immediately for work completed as you go. You should be honest with the contractor, but above all be careful with the upfront money.

The last I heard, Christie signed a bill prohibiting any contractor from working in NJ unless it was union run. Christie is a demonrat and calls himself Republican. He´s a grand disappointment.

The report to be released Monday by the Drug Policy Alliance shows 4 out of 10 county jail inmates have been granted bail but can´t afford to post it. Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
