First there were near-tears, and then a protester had to be forced out, but Sen. John Kerry took it all in stride. Kerry choked up at his secretary of state confirmation hearings this morning when discussing his father’s history in the U.S. Foreign Service, and how he was “equally proud” of both that history and his own as part of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “If you confirm me, I would take office as secretary proud that the Senate is in my blood, but equally proud that so, too, is the Foreign Service,” the Massachusetts Democrat
Comments: How with this work when dealing with the Ayatollahs, Pooty, or Al Qaeda? ´´Wah-Wah-Wah - pretty please be nice to us.´´
I saw that and it made me think, these people really aren´t there about the Country, they are there for themselves and how they feel, not the Country or it´s people. We are just an inconvenience they have to put up with.
He should cry over his past horrible behavior toward this country, who now honors him, without diserving it, with the honor of being Secretary of State of the United States of American. Cry Mr. Kerry for your past foolishness.
The American People deserve to have the best possible appointee to the Office of Secretary of State. John Kerry is not that candidate. This Viet Nam vet will never forgive him for his VVAW activities, the Winter Soldier hearings, when he lied under oath to congress, and his cowardly escape from combat duty with a coupole of scratches.
According to Rush today this traitor is worth around 193 million on his own - not including his share of the Heinz fortune. I want to know where he got this money. He didn´t work for it, that´s for sure.
Those were tears of joy. He knows that he´ll be traveling non stop and far away from Teresa and her gin soaked raisins. Hillary didn´t travel with a hair dresser but will John Effin be traveling with his Botox injection nurse?
I watched/listened to this travesty today and just knew I had been transported to a weird and wrong "other" dimension. Jon Cary is NOT who we need as the next Secretary of State. He is a treasonous and sorry excuse for a human being. God help our once Great Country....
The scary thing is that there are lots of Americans who fall for these preposterous charades. We have sunk pretty low to have a succession of such teary-eyed, choked up scoundrels hamming it up before a public they clearly think -not without reason- is gullible enough to swallow such obvious BS.
J. Effin makes me choke. He ought to still be incarcerated at Leavenworth for negotiating--ILLEGALLY--WITH NVN in Paris in 1971, sent there for that reason by Capt. Oldsmobile (D-Chappaquidick) himself.
Miss Kopechne is still not available for comment.
And J. Effin is still a horse´s ass with a horse face.
Is there a bigger, lying, more treasonous phony POS than this guy?
The world is truly upside down when traitors are appointed to the highest posts in our land. We are truly in The Twilight Zone. This is worse than scandalous. We will be very, very lucky to survive the next 4 years.
And with the current and ever changing "demographics" there could very well have another so called Democrat elected to POTUS again to increase or complete the total destruction of the America and Western civilization.
There is no reality or reason anymore. Unless there is an revolution and coup d´etat we are dead.
Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, a rising star in the Democratic Party, confirmed on Monday that if she doesn´t run for re-election, she´ll run for governor. "I can say with absolute certainty I will run for one of two offices: either my state Senate seat, or the governor," Davis said at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. "I´m working very hard to decide what my next steps will be. I do think in Texas people feel like we need a change from the very fractured, very partisan leadership that we´re seeing in our statewide leadership right now."
Employer retiree health care coverage, which has been deteriorating for years amid high health care costs and waning employer interest, is headed for bigger changes thanks to the Affordable Care Act, a new study shows. More than 40 percent of employers have eliminated their traditional group health coverage for retirees over the age of 65 in favor of giving these former employees a defined amount of money for them to buy their coverage on the individual Medicare plan market, according to a new survey of more than 540 companies by employee benefits consulting firm Aon AON -0.22% Hewitt (AON).
Moscow -- Russia has opened a criminal case on an American band after one of its members stuffed the Russian flag into his pants, pulled it out his backside and whipped it between his legs, state-run news agency RIA Novosti reported Monday. (Snip) A member of the band´s crew, who asked to not be named for security reasons, told CNN the band was attacked Saturday by Russian nationalists inside Anapa airport in Krasnodar Krai. The band members were "beaten up" by a crowd of men who punched and kicked them, the crew member said, adding that some of the attackers
A last-minute appeal that could have stopped Billy Slagle’s execution — without opposition from state attorneys — was poised to be filed this morning with the Ohio Supreme Court. But the convicted Cleveland killer’s attorneys were unable to reach him over the weekend on Death Row at the Chillicothe Correctional Institution. Yesterday morning, they got the call: Slagle hanged himself in his cell about 5 a.m. and was declared dead about an hour later. Vicki Werneke and Joseph Wilhelm, Slagle’s federal public defenders, are left to wonder “what if?” “I don’t know what more we could have done,” Werneke said.
Two children died after a python got into an apartment in Campbellton, N.B., RCMP say. "Police are investigating two sudden deaths of two young boys," Const. Julie Rogers-Marsh said Monday. It´s believed the snake escaped from a pet store called Reptile Ocean. The victims were boys aged five and seven. They were in the apartment above the store. "The preliminary investigation has led police to believe that a python snake escaped its enclosure in the store sometime overnight," the constable said. Rogers-Marsh said it went through the ventilation. "It´s believed the two boys were strangled by the snake," she said.
WASHINGTON - The United States extended the closures of some embassies and consulates in the Middle East - which had been closed Sunday due to an al Qaeda threat - through August 10 due to caution but not the emergence of any new threat, the State Department said. Other U.S. diplomatic posts, including in Kabul, Baghdad and Algiers, that had been closed on Sunday, will reopen on Monday, the State Department said. Posts in Abu Dhabi, Amman, Cairo, Riyadh, Dhahran, Jeddah, Doha, Dubai, Kuwait, Manama, Muscat, Sanaa, Tripoli, Antanarivo, Bujumbura, Djibouti, Khartoum, Kigali, and Port Louis will be closed through Saturday.
PROVO, Utah — Time may be running short for hardcore "Star Wars" fans to see the real-life set used to portray Anakin Skywalker´s childhood home of Mos Espa on the planet Tatooine. Brigham Young University planetary scientist Jani Radebaugh said new research shows a fast-moving sand dune is spilling onto streets of the set in the Tunisian desert and will eventually bury buildings. The dune was measured at 20 feet tall and 300 feet wide in 2009, and it´s been moving toward the set about 50 feet per year since 2002, she said. Research by her and two colleagues
The closure of 19 embassies Sunday and the issuing of a month-long global travel alert for all Americans abroad shows how Al Qaeda´s threat to the United States has evolved since 9/11 – and how the US response has evolved, too. The closed embassies are all in an arc that runs from North Africa through the Middle East to Afghanistan, and the information suggests that the primary threat comes from Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula – the Yemen-based Al Qaeda branch that many experts say is now the movement´s strongest. Officials with knowledge of the intelligence
WASHINGTON -- The 162,000 jobs the economy added in July were a disappointment. The quality of the jobs was even worse. A disproportionate number of the added jobs were part-time or low-paying — or both. Part-time work accounted for more than 65 percent of the positions employers added in July. Low-paying retailers, restaurants and bars supplied more than half July´s job gain. "You´re getting jobs added, but they might not be the best-quality job," says John Canally, an economist with LPL Financial in Boston. So far this year, low-paying industries have provided 61 percent of the nation´s job growth
Two beliefs continue to shape debate on Obamacare. First, pre-existing medical conditions shouldn’t prevent people from obtaining affordable health insurance. And second, people who don’t want health insurance shouldn’t be forced by the government to purchase it. These may seem to be reasonable positions. But they are incompatible. That’s been shown by historical events, and it’s now being strikingly confirmed by recent experience in the emerging Obamacare insurance exchanges. The crux of the matter is what economists call the adverse-selection problem. Uninsured people with pre-existing conditions often face tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars in
MOSCOW — The American rock group Bloodhound Gang was kicked out of a Russian music festival and pelted with eggs after videos emerged of its bass player shoving a Russian flag down his pants at a recent concert in Ukraine. Russian prosecutors are even considering whether to open a criminal case in the matter, which comes amid a rise in U.S.-Russian tensions. Videos posted online of Wednesday´s concert in the Ukrainian city of Odessa show bass player Jared Hasselhoff pushing the Russian white, blue and red flag down the front of his pants and pulling it out the back.
Aetna Inc has withdrawn its applications to sell insurance plans on Maryland´s individual health exchange after it was asked to lower its rates by up to 29 percent, according to the state´s department of insurance. In an Aug. 1 letter sent to the Department of Insurance, Aetna said the required rate modifications cut premiums too low on both its Aetna and Coventry products. Aetna closed on the acquisition of Coventry Health Care this spring. "Unfortunately, we believe the modifications to the rates filed by Aetna and Coventry would not allow us to collect enough premiums to cover the cost
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
Conservatives have for years attempted to put our finger upon precisely why Barack Obama strikes us as queer in precisely the way he does. There is an alienness about him, which in the fever swamps is expressed in all that ridiculous Kenyan-Muslim hokum, but his citizen-of-the-world shtick is strictly sophomore year — the great globalist does not even speak a foreign language. Obama has been called many things — radical, socialist — labels that may have him dead to rights at the phylum level but not down at his genus or species. His social circle includes
For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
In an exclusive interview for The Grio, NBCUniversal’s African-American news and opinion website, Oprah Winfrey weighed in with her unvarnished thoughts on the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Winfrey said that, in her mind, Martin’s murder and that of Emmett Till in 1955 – whose killers were also acquitted – were the “same thing.” However, she added that it is important to keep in mind how much race relations in America have progressed over the last half-century. In a clip of the interview which aired on NBC’s Today, Oprah told The Grio’s Chris
