Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) laid out the conditions of her proposed assault weapons ban Thursday, saying it would prohibit 158 specifically named military-style firearms. “The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time,” Feinstein said. “Therefore, there is no sunset on this bill.” Feinstein said the bill prohibits the sale, transfer, manufacture and importation of assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices that can accept more than ten rounds, but said it would not affect hunting or sporting firearms. “Instead, the bill protects hunters and sportsmen by protecting 2,200 specifically-named weapons used for
We have to keep saying it, over and over and over. The Second Amendment is not about hunting and sportsmen. This is their "divide and conquer" strategy; get those firearm owners whose only interest is hunting or competition to side with the gun-grabbers by pretending to protect them. I´m already seeing the letters to the editor saying "I´m a hunter, and I agree that we just don´t need "assault rifles" and thirty-round magazines."
Since the information is now out there that "assault weapons" her words not mine were NOT used in the killings at Sandy Point, by what justification are politicians proceeding with this bogus premise? If these communist politicians can ignore the second amendment, what amendment will they come after next? Beware American People.
Feinstupe is right. We give up our guns and then muslim broBama can give them to Morsi along with all the jets and tanks they want. We can defend our homes and country with our surplus over-priced solar panels.
Just as the ban on cocaine has dried up the supply over time. I know that they actually don´t care but it should be obvious that the government has NEVER been able to ban anything without creating a lucrative black market which keeps the supply lines just as full of product as before the ban.
Yes, this will definitely dry up LEGAL weapons over time, but the black-market in these products will skyrocket, much as has happened with drugs. It´s just fine with this Administration to move weapons to "insurgents" in OTHER Countries, just as long as our own citizenry toes the line. More people than ever will be injured or killed, because now they can fight over guns as they do with other products. Obviously they have not read their American history books and reviewed "Prohibition".
DiFi provides evidence that she´s graduated from democrat to dementia-afflicted, from socialist to psychotic. This ill-conceived (and repeatedly-proven-to-be-ineffective) proposal will only dry up the supply of liberty, as a disarmed populace will be even more at the mercy of the violent and unable to stand up for their rights.
And I wish I could get away with wearing a teeshirt bearing #15´s remark, without risking the loss of job, home, and freedom. (Though the latter is dwindling in size faster than Kate Moss on a starvation diet.)
Unfortunately, this has already been foisted upon us once ... the fully automatic weapon ban of those firearms made past 1986. That is, they limited the pool to existing weapons which has driven up demand (supply diminished because no one wanted to sell) and you had to get "permission" (BATFE tax stamp for ANY transfer).
I personally believe that private individuals should be able to own ANY weapon held by the government/military. We pay for theirs and you should not diminish your resistive capability to a potential enemy.
Diane Feinstein at age 79 should be concerned with avoiding her to be mandated end of life discussions about how to go out without a fuss than messing with a Constitutional right she shouldn´t outlive.
"The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident, unfortunately." President Obama tells comedian Jay Leno that "We don’t have a domestic spying program." He made the comment during a taping of Leno´s TV show. Obama also says the U.S. is not overreacting by closing some U.S. embassies for a week. The president tells Leno, "The odds of dying in a terrorist attack are a lot lower than they are of dying in a car accident, unfortunately." And the president says of Russia´s Putin,
Mitt Romney on Tuesday warned congressional Republicans against shutting down the government in an attempt to defund ObamaCare. “I badly want ObamaCare to go away, and stripping it of funds has appeal,” Romney said at a fundraiser in New Hampshire for the state’s Republican Party, according to prepared remarks. “But we need to exercise great care about any talk of shutting down government. What would come next when soldiers aren´t paid, when seniors fear for their Medicare and Social Security, and when the FBI is off duty?”
In a May 30, 2013, letter to CIA officers on the ground last fall in Benghazi, Libya, CIA director John Brennan notifies survivors of those attacks that congressional oversight committees remain interested in hearing from them. HPSCI (House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence) and SSCI (Senate Select Committee on Intelligence), Brennan wrote, “have asked that CIA leadership reach out to officers who were in Benghazi during the attacks to let them know of the committees’ interest in hearing first-hand account. While the committees have asked that we make those in Benghazi during the attacks aware of their interest in
Proving, yet again, that Chris Matthews lives in his own special world, the Hardball anchor on Tuesday unleashed a massive understatement. Talking about the Republican National Committee and Chairman Reince Priebus´s decision to boycott NBC if the network produces a pro-Hillary Clinton documentary, Matthews defended MSNBC: "By the way, those who talk about the tight relationship between MSNBC and Barack Obama, for example, count the number of times he´s been on this network. Zero." This made former RNC chair Michael Steele laugh and he retorted, "That still doesn´t say
Should federally mandated school accountability and testing requirements be abandoned? With Congress actively considering a major revision of No Child Left Behind, that question has moved to the top of the national education agenda. The Obama administration, teachers unions and some Republicans are joining forces to gut core provisions of the education law that was one of the Bush administration´s crowning achievements. No Child Left Behind, which began in 2002, focused on the low performance of African-American and Hispanic students. It required that all students, no matter their race or ethnicity, reach proficiency by 2014.
June 28, 2014, will mark the 100th anniversary of what is arguably the most eventful terrorist attack in history. That was the day that Gavrilo Princip, a Bosnian Serb, shot and killed the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne. In one of those mega-oversimplifications that journalists love and historians abhor, the murder of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his pregnant wife, Sophie, led directly and unavoidably to World War I. Between 1914 and 1918, 37 million soldiers and civilians were injured or killed. If there should ever be a terrorists´ Hall of Fame, Gavrilo Princip will
The IRS targeting scandal is best understood as part of a larger effort to limit the political speech of conservatives and business groups. That became clearer last week regarding the Federal Election Commission, and now evidence is spreading to the Securities and Exchange Commission. Senior Republicans on the House Oversight Committee recently wrote to new SEC Chairman Mary Jo White to report on disturbing events that occurred under her predecessor, and to request agency documents. As at the IRS, there´s an emerging pattern at the SEC of
Politics: Republicans who´ve been viciously attacking a last-ditch defund ObamaCare effort should ask themselves: Will getting rid of this $1.4 trillion entitlement program be easier two years from now? Or four? Some Republicans and conservative pundits are in a lather lately, throwing brickbats like "the dumbest idea I´ve ever heard," "a fantasy," "the definition of insanity," "nuts" and something that will "deliver nothing other than pain." Oh, wait. Those aren´t criticisms of ObamaCare. They´re complaints from the likes of GOP Sens. Richard Burr and Tom Coburn, and various conservative pundits and bloggers about a proposal to defund ObamaCare.
Benevolence: A European either living off or managing a nanny state would say that Americans´ contempt for welfare regimes is based on greed. But if Americans are so selfish, how can they be so charitable? In no European economy are the people more generous with their own money than the people of the U.S. According to Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development data, which have been thoughtfully assembled by Cato scholar Dan Mitchell, the total of Americans´ voluntary social spending reached 10.2% of GDP in 2009, the latest year for which numbers are available.
War On Terror: The way the White House has hyped a supposedly imminent al-Qaida plot, only one thing has to happen for President Obama to come off as a hero: nothing. It smells fishy. It´s not at the level of Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman cinematically fabricating a war with Albania to get the public´s mind off a presidential sex scandal, as in David Mamet´s 1997 black comedy "Wag the Dog," but the indefinite shutdown of 20 U.S. embassies in the Mideast and Africa after the announcement of a for-sure, impending terrorist mega-attack looks suspiciously gift-wrapped and well-timed
The American Geophysical Union has definitively linked climate change to humanity’s reliance on fossil fuels. In a statement, the Union said that humanity is the major influence on the global climate change observed over the past 50 years. It claimed that human-caused increases in greenhouse gases are responsible for most of the observed global average surface warming of roughly 0.8°C (1.5°F) over the past 140 years. ´There is only one thing that is going straight up … that is the greenhouse gases that we are just pumping at an exponential rate,´ Gerald North, an atmospheric scientist at Texas A&M
CIA Director John Brennan wrote to his agency´s Benghazi survivors on May 30, instructing them that while they were under no obligation to speak to Congress, they could testify in closed committee hearings if they wanted to. ´The Agency will support and facilitate contact with [congressional] committees,´ he wrote, for any employee who wanted to talk. The letter, first published online by The Weekly Standard, suggests that Republicans in the House and Senate have overreacted to their inability to get CIA witnesses to testify on the record. Several Republicans have expressed frustration at what they see as a gag order
In 2008 and then again in 2012, after retired four-star General Colin Powell endorsed and then voted for Barack Obama, the former Secretary of State´s sanity was already in question. At least now, after having his email account hacked by high-level security-breacher Guccifer, Colin Powell´s besmirching of the Republican Party´s "shift to the right" and "identity crisis" finally makes sense. It seems that for years the mannerly and always professional Colin Powell has been cyber-comporting with a 46-year-old Romanian European Parliament member, Social Democrat, and past spokesperson for Romanian president Ion Iliescu named Corina Cretu
He thought he was a woman trapped in a man’s body — but it turns out he’s “just another boring straight guy.” ABC News editor Don Ennis strolled into the newsroom in May wearing a little black dress and an auburn wig and announced he was transgender and splitting from his wife. He wanted to be called Dawn. But now he says he suffered from a two-day bout of amnesia that has made him realize he wants to live his life again as Don. “I accused my wife of playing some kind of cruel joke, dressing
WASHINGTON — Former Massachusetts lawmaker Barney Frank revealed that he doesn’t believe in God. During Friday’s appearance on HBO’s “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Frank, who championed the decriminalization of pot while serving in the House of Representatives, admitted to smoking marijuana and being an atheist. “You were in a fairly safe district. You were not one of those congress people who would have to worry about every little thing,” Maher said to Frank. “You could come on this show and sit next to a pot-smoking atheist and it wouldn’t bother you.”
The truth about Benghazi, the Associated Press/James Rosen monitoring, the IRS corruption, the NSA octopus, and Fast and Furious is still not exactly known. Almost a year after the attacks on our Benghazi facilities, we are only now learning details of CIA gun-running, military stand-down orders, aliases of those involved who are still hard to locate, massaged talking points, and the weird jailing of Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. We still do not quite know why Eric Holder’s Justice Department went after the Associated Press or Fox News’s James Rosen — given that members of the administration were themselves illegally leaking
Washington--As hundreds of commuters emerged from Amtrak and commuter trains at Union Station on a recent morning, an armed squad of men and women dressed in bulletproof vests made their way through the crowds. The squad was not with the Washington police department or Amtrak’s police force, but was one of the Transportation Security Administration’s Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response squads — VIPR teams for short — assigned to perform random security sweeps to prevent terrorist attacks at transportation hubs across the United States.(Snip)With little fanfare, the agency best known for airport screenings has vastly expanded its reach
A poll released Friday by Public Policy Polling found that Alaska voters would pick former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton over the state´s former Republican governor, Sarah Palin, if the two women were to face off in the 2016 presidential election. Clinton led with 49 percent in the hypothetical match-up, with Palin at 40 percent, a nine-point gap. As of July 3, Republicans comprised 27 percent of the state´s registered voters and Democrats made up just 14 percent. The last time Alaskans opted for the Democrats´ presidential candidate was in 1964. Clinton trails five other hypothetical GOP candidates –
In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus threatened to pull the group’s partnership with NBC and CNN for 2016 GOP presidential primary debates if the networks moved ahead with plans to air films on Hillary Clinton. “If they have not agreed to pull this programming prior to the start of the RNC’s Summer Meeting on August 14, I will seek a binding vote stating that the RNC will neither partner with these networks in 2016 primary debates nor sanction primary debates they sponsor,” Preibus said in a statement. In individual letters to CNN President Jeff Zucker and NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt,
The Pentagon has placed its elite cadre of special operations teams on full alert to launch preemptive attacks against suspected al Qaeda targets across the globe, according to reports. The American special forces teams have spent the past week waiting for U.S. military and intelligence officials to confirm the whereabouts of the terror cell plotting to attack U.S. diplomatic outposts in the Mideast and North Africa. Unnamed sources told CNN on Monday that the teams were poised to carry out the preemptive strikes, but declined to comment on where the U.S. forces were located or which potential
Oprah Winfrey on Monday said the killings of Trayvon Martin and Emmett Till are the "same thing." This transpired during an interview with The Grio that aired on NBC´s Today show. OPRAH WINFREY: It´s so easy during this time: Trayvon Martin, Trayvon Martin parallel to Emmett Till, let me just tell you. In my mind, same thing. But you can, you can get stuck in that and not allow yourself to move forward and to see how far we´ve come. Really? Martin and Till are the same thing?
In an exclusive interview for The Grio, NBCUniversal’s African-American news and opinion website, Oprah Winfrey weighed in with her unvarnished thoughts on the killing of Trayvon Martin and the acquittal of George Zimmerman. Winfrey said that, in her mind, Martin’s murder and that of Emmett Till in 1955 – whose killers were also acquitted – were the “same thing.” However, she added that it is important to keep in mind how much race relations in America have progressed over the last half-century. In a clip of the interview which aired on NBC’s Today, Oprah told The Grio’s Chris
Two Republican senators said Tuesday that they´ve personally urged the Egyptian government to release Muslim Brotherhood prisoners, after hosting meetings with top officials in Cairo as part of an Obama administration-sanctioned visit. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who is in Cairo along with Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-.S.C., made clear that the two U.S. lawmakers are representing the views of Congress and "do not speak for the White House." Still, they are among the most prominent U.S. representatives in the country this week, as a wave of international mediators tries to nudge the country´s military-backed government to resolve the standoff
