Welcome to my world. I lost my insurance this year because my premiums doubled. I also work at a school where teachers pay 4 cents for the same plan that would cost me $400 a paycheck. I have not had a raise in three years and only make $23,000 a year and he says he can´t afford insurance on his $40,000 salary. Poor baby. I didn´t vote for this boob but I am getting screwed non the less. You probably did vote for the idiots that thought the affordable care act was obama´s gift to America. You deserve it but I don´t. Glad to see that some of the pooh is finally splashing back on you guys.

My daughter was notified that she will be losing hours, too, at her hourly job. She makes $15/hour, with no benefits, and she´s trying to pay for school. Thanks, Obama.

Having worked at a major university for many years it´s good news to finally see these ivory tower elitists finally get the shaft. I´ve seen many of these part-timers (oops...adjunct profs). They teach a few hours a week but otherwise have nothing to do but come in late and wander around chatting with other do-nothings. And they get grad assistants to actually do the work of grading papers and tests.

Too bad it is only the "adjuncts" being cut, none of the tenured loafers will take the hit.

It is stinging irony that the dopey professors who voted overwhelmongly for obama are getting what is coming to them. But it´s sad that smart people like posters 2 and 3 pay a price for the stupidity of obama supporters.

Most professors who lost insurance and hours are too stupid to understand their plight. One guy quoted in the article blamed his employer. Although it my conjecture, others are likely to blame the insurance companies, or maybe GW Bush. Few have the sense to understand that obamacare is a disaster for the the country and a setback for them.

The adjunct route has always been a way to skirt fringe benefits. This is not news.

Adjuncts are treated very poorly at the college where I work. The tenured faculty and unions could care less (that is a broad statement - not true of everyone but there has never been effectual support for people who often work very, very hard). The unions are blaming the college administrators and lack of state funding. They will not, simply will not, consider the effects of Obamacare. If Zippy says something it is taken as gospel truth.

It would be nice to think that there will be so much pain that a backlash against Zippy will start to swell. But this is part of the plan to get us all into a single-payer system. It is working. Makes me sick.

Forgot to add that, in my department, our adjuncts attend faculty meetings, serve on committees, plan with full-time folks like me when changes have to be made, etc. They will do anything to hang on to their part-time work. I take absolutely no joy in seeing them get the shaft, even though they bear some of the responsibility for not seeing through progressive lies.

What world are these people living in where they thought that university administrators were to be trusted? These teachers are probably adjuncts because they´re not competitive in the job market for tenure-track jobs, aren´t willing to move to another place, or are in fields where there are only one or two openings in the country for full-time employment in their area of expertise. Many universities have done away with tenure-track jobs entirely, of course, in order to avoid having to pay extended benefits. I have plenty of friends who teach part-time in universities (sometimes travelling great distances every day to teach at two or three schools). None of them expect to have any job security, trust any administrator--EVER--, or in most cases, expect to be covered by any sort of benefit package. They realize that they have gone into fields that have very little value in today´s marketplace, but love their subject matter so much that they will do anything to teach it. (They´re in the arts.) One of my colleagues lives in a dorm as a "faculty in residence" this year in order to make ends meet. These people put together a living as best they can and don´t EXPECT to be taken care of by their employers and never have assumed that they ever WOULD have such. These people are certainly in the minority. Too bad so many "professors" don´t have the same attitude. In the university where I teach, adjuncts are not allowed to teach more than 6 years, as this is what is officially allowed by one of the oversight organizations (can´t remember if it´s American Association of University Professors or not).

My Mom worked as an instructor in four year college for 20 years. She worked with capital W. Her field was business. And, in her day most of the other professors did their jobs too. No one was ivory tower dwellers. Then things changed. Affirmative action meant more watered down classes and Black studies, women´s studies, etc. That attracted the lounge lizards and smoke blowers. Today a good education in almost impossible to find at the same level as it was in my day. It is astonishing how little graduates know. Anything that shakes up the elites is good. Yes, I will suffer too. But my financial hit is nothing I am not used to. Elites will suffer double. This is not supposed to happen to THEM.

Perfessers...there is this thing in the course of human events called INSANITY. Sorry you are NOT famaliar with it, but you have just witnessed the results.

Make it hard for people to live their lives and they find a way around the ´insanity´.
