Confused professors shocked schools are cutting their hours to avoid Obamacare penalties

| Barack Obama is a former adjunct professor of constitutional law, and no group has been more solidly supportive of his liberal agenda than the professorial class. So it is a sweet irony that the latest group getting hammered by the mandates of Obamacare are … wait for it … adjunct professors. The Wall Street Journal reports: The federal health-care overhaul is prompting some colleges and universities to cut the hours of adjunct professors. [...] The Affordable Care Act requires large employers to offer a minimum level of health insurance to employees who work 30 hours a week

Welcome to my world. I lost my insurance this year because my premiums doubled. I also work at a school where teachers pay 4 cents for the same plan that would cost me $400 a paycheck. I have not had a raise in three years and only make $23,000 a year and he says he can´t afford insurance on his $40,000 salary. Poor baby. I didn´t vote for this boob but I am getting screwed non the less. You probably did vote for the idiots that thought the affordable care act was obama´s gift to America. You deserve it but I don´t. Glad to see that some of the pooh is finally splashing back on you guys.

My daughter was notified that she will be losing hours, too, at her hourly job. She makes $15/hour, with no benefits, and she´s trying to pay for school. Thanks, Obama.

Having worked at a major university for many years it´s good news to finally see these ivory tower elitists finally get the shaft. I´ve seen many of these part-timers (oops...adjunct profs). They teach a few hours a week but otherwise have nothing to do but come in late and wander around chatting with other do-nothings. And they get grad assistants to actually do the work of grading papers and tests.

It is stinging irony that the dopey professors who voted overwhelmongly for obama are getting what is coming to them. But it´s sad that smart people like posters 2 and 3 pay a price for the stupidity of obama supporters.
Most professors who lost insurance and hours are too stupid to understand their plight. One guy quoted in the article blamed his employer. Although it my conjecture, others are likely to blame the insurance companies, or maybe GW Bush. Few have the sense to understand that obamacare is a disaster for the the country and a setback for them.

Adjuncts are treated very poorly at the college where I work. The tenured faculty and unions could care less (that is a broad statement - not true of everyone but there has never been effectual support for people who often work very, very hard). The unions are blaming the college administrators and lack of state funding. They will not, simply will not, consider the effects of Obamacare. If Zippy says something it is taken as gospel truth.
It would be nice to think that there will be so much pain that a backlash against Zippy will start to swell. But this is part of the plan to get us all into a single-payer system. It is working. Makes me sick. Ramona (the Pest)

Forgot to add that, in my department, our adjuncts attend faculty meetings, serve on committees, plan with full-time folks like me when changes have to be made, etc. They will do anything to hang on to their part-time work. I take absolutely no joy in seeing them get the shaft, even though they bear some of the responsibility for not seeing through progressive lies. RtP

But the learned Marxist professors were too busy screaming " crazy bee" to listen. Twyla Brase of the Citizens´ Council for Helath Freedom has been sending out informed warnings as well.

What world are these people living in where they thought that university administrators were to be trusted? These teachers are probably adjuncts because they´re not competitive in the job market for tenure-track jobs, aren´t willing to move to another place, or are in fields where there are only one or two openings in the country for full-time employment in their area of expertise. Many universities have done away with tenure-track jobs entirely, of course, in order to avoid having to pay extended benefits. I have plenty of friends who teach part-time in universities (sometimes travelling great distances every day to teach at two or three schools). None of them expect to have any job security, trust any administrator--EVER--, or in most cases, expect to be covered by any sort of benefit package. They realize that they have gone into fields that have very little value in today´s marketplace, but love their subject matter so much that they will do anything to teach it. (They´re in the arts.) One of my colleagues lives in a dorm as a "faculty in residence" this year in order to make ends meet. These people put together a living as best they can and don´t EXPECT to be taken care of by their employers and never have assumed that they ever WOULD have such. These people are certainly in the minority. Too bad so many "professors" don´t have the same attitude. In the university where I teach, adjuncts are not allowed to teach more than 6 years, as this is what is officially allowed by one of the oversight organizations (can´t remember if it´s American Association of University Professors or not).

My Mom worked as an instructor in four year college for 20 years. She worked with capital W. Her field was business. And, in her day most of the other professors did their jobs too. No one was ivory tower dwellers. Then things changed. Affirmative action meant more watered down classes and Black studies, women´s studies, etc. That attracted the lounge lizards and smoke blowers. Today a good education in almost impossible to find at the same level as it was in my day. It is astonishing how little graduates know. Anything that shakes up the elites is good. Yes, I will suffer too. But my financial hit is nothing I am not used to. Elites will suffer double. This is not supposed to happen to THEM.

President Barack Obama and Senate Democrats are going to win the first round in the fight over gun control Thursday. As many as a dozen Republicans are expected to join 50 or so Democrats to shut down a Republican filibuster blocking debate on a Democrat-authored gun bill thanks, in part, to a bipartisan deal between Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) that would expand background checks on all commercial gun sales and end the so-called gun show loophole. And then the real drama will begin. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and other GOP senators

“Courts Without Judges” reads the headline of an attack on Senate Republicans by the New York Times editorial board. Bemoaning the fact that there 85 vacancies in the federal judiciary, the Times asserts that “by far the most important cause of this unfortunate state of affairs is the determination of Senate Republicans, for reasons of politics, ideology and spite, to confirm as few of President Obama’s judicial choices as possible.” However, as Ed Whelan points out, in the second-to-last paragraph of the editorial we learn that “62 district and circuit court vacancies have no nominees.”

While President Obama invites Republicans to his dinner table, his liberal allies are at the gates. On Wednesday night, President Obama dines with GOP senators at the White House. It´s the second act in a dinner theater that started with a meal with another group of Republican senators at the Jefferson Hotel a month ago. Obama also made public peace offerings Wednesday to those Republicans: cuts to Social Security and Medicare in his budget that he hopes will entice conservatives to a grand budget bargain. Those measures enraged his liberal allies so much

The City of New York has finally agreed to pay Occupy Wall Street for the property destroyed in the Zuccotti Park police raid on Nov. 15, 2011. OWS initiated a suit on May 24, 2012, seeking compensation for the desctruction of their People’s Library—a collection of over 5,000 donated books. About 3,600 of these were ruined during the early morning eviction of the protest camp. The City agreed to settle yesterday, awarding $47,000 in damages to OWS and $186,349.58 in attorney fees to their lawyers. “We’re very pleased with the resolution of this suit,” said Herbert Teitelbaum, a lawyer representing the plaintiffs.

U.S. and allied intelligence agencies have identified the launch zone on North Korea’s east coast where Pyongyang’s military is set to fire a salvo of missiles that risk being shot down by U.S. missile defenses in the region. The North Koreans recently began fueling two road-mobile Musudan intermediate-range ballistic missiles located along the east coast between the cities of Wonsan and Hamhung, according to intelligence officials. The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said in addition to the 2,500-mile-range Musudans the North Koreans could conduct test firings of several 620-mile-range Nodong missiles and shorter-range Scuds simultaneously

Where’s OFA? The pro-amnesty rally in front of the U.S. Capitol was described as “massive” on my local NPR station even before it had taken place. Here is an NBC newscast with a pretty good photo-not an up-close photo, but one that lets you gauge the size of the crowd. It’s not massive! It’s not even very large. I’d say 10,000 or fewer. Obama’s new high-tech political machine, Organizing for Action, doesn’t seem to have played a huge role in the rally. It declared a “week of action” on immigration, but that was last week. Looking at the overall outline of the budget President Obama proposed on Wednesday makes it easy enough to see why the White House chose to leak in advance the fact that the president would propose to adopt chained CPI, one of the few non-counterproductive entitlement-reform ideas he has been willing to accept. The leak meant that Washington spent the weekend talking about entitlement reform and whether the president would anger his liberal base so that by the time the budget came out some reporters might have felt like it was old news and not actually spent much time on it.

Normally those of us in the news business love trials, the more sensational the better. Just look at the coverage of the Jodi Arias murder trial in Maricopa County, Ariz. — or earlier national obsessions with Casey Anthony and O.J. Simpson. Which makes the media blackout of one ongoing trial a mystery. Or maybe not. In Philadelphia, Kermit Gosnell is on trial on eight counts of murder: seven for babies he’s accused of killing with scissors after they were born, and one for a pregnant refugee who died after receiving an overdose of drugs. If true, Gosnell was running

Last week, Rutgers University fired its mercurial basketball coach after he was videotaped “shoving, grabbing and throwing balls at players in practice and using gay slurs,” according to ESPN. Under pressure from school administrators, Rutgers’ athletic director, who had previously defended the coach’s behavior, resigned. It was an appropriate response: violent oafs should be fired from their university jobs for violent, oafish behavior. Almost from the moment he walked into the Oval Office, Barack Obama has had a serious lying problem when it comes to firearms. The 44th president has a near pathological predilection for using defective, invalid, and flat-out dishonest statistics in his quest to restrict the 2nd Amendment rights of American citizens, a fact first pointed out here at PJ Media in the summer of 2009. At that time, the president, then-Secretary of State of State Hillary Clinton, and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder were heavily invested in promoting the deceptive theory that the supermajority of firearms being used by Mexican drug cartels

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Life News reports: ...a former employee described how she heard a baby scream during a live-birth abortion. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
