| With memories painfully fresh and nerves still raw after the Connecticut elementary school massacre, the nation suddenly turned its attention to a community college campus in suburban Houston on Tuesday afternoon, fearful that another violent incident was shredding any lingering notion of safety in the classroom. As it turned out, the gunfire that shattered the silence of a normal day of classes at Lone Star College´s north Harris County location was sadly routine. Two young men became involved in an argument that ended when one pulled a handgun.

I wonder if this photo of the shooter will appear anywhere in the MSM? My guess is no because it does not comport with their anti-gun narrative but, instead, is more illustrative of the Chicago syndrome.

The campus is near an area of town caleld Greenspoint that is called Gunspoint here in Houston.
I also loved the local newscast where a youth started flashing gang signs behind the reporter.

But...the suspect had his rights! He had the right to purchase that gun. He had the right to have it nearby when he got into an argument. He had the right to foolishly mishandle it and shoot himself in the hip.
Waiting to hear all the folks defend this guy´s Second Amendment Rights....

He had 2nd Amendment rights and will now lose them and go to jail. Of course he was also breaking the law by carrying in a "No guns zone" on campus.

I don´t know if the firearm was identified, but I suspect a semiautomatic with the wretched integral trigger safety. I have been a hunter for almost 70 years(!) and I am comfortable with all sorts of firearms, but that safety mechanism bothers even as experienced outdoorsman as I am.

Yes #4, I WILL defend his right to have a firearm, right up to the point of him becoming a criminal, which is out of my control, your control, and the 2nd Amendments control.
I´m sure your pithy comment played well over at HuffPo, but let me help you a bit. This shooter has the same rights as you or me, until he forfeits those rights. Now, I do not know if obtained his weapon legally, if he did, then he is a moron, if he didn´t, then he is a criminal moron.

Sounds like a case of Glock-leg. Usually caused by not following safety rules (keeping your finger off the trigger) and carrying without a holster, ala Plaxico Burress.

#4. Scenario 1: Cop stops commuter for "driving while black" because all wrongdoers in the last year have been black. Black Victim network goes full throttle, and the City pays up.
Scenario 2: Progressives argue for gun registration/confiscation/limitations for law abiding citizens because a law abiding citizen with no criminal record may someday chose a life of crime.
What´s the difference?

I don´t see why other gun owner rights should be annulled because this guy is a criminal. Criminals were being put in jail and left there. States have been adjusting their budgets by letting them out and not putting them in jail. Obama has said zero about crime and punishment. Obama punishes the innocent and wants to release the Guantanamo bunch into the U.S. population.

Somebody please explain to me why this even got national attention. A one time loser got into an argument with someone else, several shots were fired included a obviously accidental self inflicted one. It seems that Lash larue had misdemeanor marijuana possession offense and oops was not supposed to have a gun in his posession in the first place. It also seems Lash was not a good shot at all and even managed to shoot himself when securing his shooting iron into his pants. I wonder if he was wearing a hoodie?
It was obviously not an active shooting, clearly a entrepreneurial pharmaceutical dispute or perhaps a simple dissing episode that got out of control. So why did this get national attention? Ohh, of course it involved the word school campus (head slap).

The U.S. Postal Service on Wednesday said it will delay a cost-cutting plan to end Saturday mail delivery, following congressional action that blocked the effort. Congress passed a temporary federal spending bill last month including language that prevents the agency -- which lost $15.9 billion last year -- from going to a Monday-to-Friday mail delivery schedule. The agency, which wanted to begin the new schedule Aug. 5, said the decision was made Tuesday by its board of governors. “By including restrictive language in the Continuing Resolution, Congress has prohibited implementation of a new national delivery schedule,”

President Obama´s budget plan would increase taxes by $580 billion over the next decade, but it relies on many proposals that have been repeatedly rejected by Congress. Some were rejected as recently as January, when Congress voted to make permanent a series of tax cuts first enacted under President George W. Bush. Among them, a proposal to limit itemized deductions for high-income families. One new proposal is a 94 cents-a-pack increase in the cigarette tax. The tax would raise an estimated $78 billion over the next decade to pay for early childhood education.

Thomas spoke to an appreciative audience at Duquesne Law School in Pittsburgh. The crowd of about 1,200 people responded with both applause and laughter as he discussed politics, the makeup of the Supreme Court, race, and his own struggles to find his path in life. Thomas said he doesn’t bear any ill-will toward other people who hold views sharply different from his.

Two prominent senators announced a proposed compromise Wednesday on the thorny issue of gun background checks, in a bid to ease opposition ahead of a showdown vote in the Senate. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa., had been meeting for days on the issue and outlined their proposal late Wednesday morning. They pitched a plan to expand background checks for sales at gun shows and online but exempt some other transactions. Currently, the checks are required only for sales handled through licensed gun dealers. The proposal, by two lawmakers who are on the conservative end

Lynda Williams, 44, of Wilmington, said Gosnell taught her how to flip a baby over and snip its neck with a pair of scissors to ensure “fetal demise.” Williams also testified that she followed Gosnell’s orders on one occassion when Gosnell was away either running, swimming or working at a clinic in Delaware, and took a baby

WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama said he’d been looking forward to a White House celebration of Memphis soul music for one reason. “Let’s face it, who does not love this music?” he asked Tuesday, opening the night’s concert in an East Room bathed in amber light and transformed by the addition of a stage and backup musicians. “These songs get us on the dance floor,” Obama said. “They get stuck in our heads. We go back over them again and again. And they’ve played an important part in our history.” Memphis, Tenn., was segregated in the 1960s,

The murder trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell largely is being ignored by the mainstream media, even in the face of grisly testimony, such as what we heard yesterday. Abortion clinic employee Sherry West described an incident which "really freaked (her) out" and related to the jury how she heard a child who was born alive following an abortion scream.

Beginning a week of high pressure on gun control, the White House on Monday accused some Republican senators of cowardice for planning to filibuster gun legislation without allowing the full Senate to vote on President Obama’s initiatives. “If they oppose this legislation, have the courage to say so on the floor and vote no,” said White House press secretary Jay Carney. “Don’t block it. Don’t hide behind a procedural action to prevent a vote. That’s the wrong thing to do, and that’s how the president clearly feels.”

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. Some conservatives have called on Obama to give up golf, especially since popular public tours of the White House have been canceled because of

There was growing buzz over the weekend that a bipartisan agreement on gun control — a deal that would expand background checks — could hit the floor as early as this week. However, any deal could be derailed by the looming threat of a Republican filibuster involving Texas Sen. Ted Cruz. With Cruz standing proudly in the way of any gun legislation, Democrats are trying to make him pay a political price — and even a couple of high-profile Republicans are questioning his tactics.

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.

Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius conceded Monday that implementing the Affordable Care Act has been more complicated and frustrating than the Obama administration expected, largely due to Republicans who have opposed the law´s state-based exchanges and Medicaid expansion. "The politics has been relentless and that continues," Sebelius said. "There was some hope that once the Supreme Court ruled in July, and then once an election occurred there would be a sense that, ´This is the law of the land, let´s get on board, let´s make this work.´"
