Lip service: Beyonce faked anthem at Obama inauguration

| O say can’t she sing? Beyoncé’s dazzling rendition of the National Anthem at President Obama’s inauguration was a total fake — with the megastar lip-syncing as the Marine Corps Band merely pretended to play its instruments, sources said yesterday. The Grammy-award winner’s decision to use a taped version of “The Star-Spangled Banner” stunned the first family, which handpicked her for the occasion. “Oh, my God! You’re best friends with Michelle and you faked it! I am very upset,” said a source close to the Obamas. “I would like my three minutes back.” Beyoncé’s performance was a well-choreographed acting job.
|
Comments: Evidently, this is a very big negative deal.

A fake entertainer faking a song for a fake president´s inauguration. That´s all it is. I´m just sorry it had to be our national anthem.

Her pregnancy was fake too. She was never pregnant. Check it out on Youtube - during some interview, as she sat down, her (fake) belly collapsed. She hunched over the whole interview and did not move. So, yeah, I can believe she faked singing. She´s also the one who said, after the election, "take that, mitches." She actually said Mitches. That´s us, you do the alphabet switch.

I saw a clip on FNC earlier. Usually a big clue to lip-syncing is the microphone held up close to the mouth to hide it when lip movement doesn´t match the sound track.

Too bad she had to fake it. The rendition that was played was much better than the usual pop singer showing off his or her range and adding notes and words not in the original version.

I heard on the radio this morning that the Marine Corps took it back and said she didn´t lip sync but I´m not buying that at all. I´ll just note that Kelly Clarkson managed to sing along with the Marine Corps Band, live, in real time, no pre-recording. Is it possible Beyonce can´t sing and needs studio tweaking to sound the way she does?

I have no problem with using pre-recordings in a situation such as this. As I read recently, when it is that cold, the instruments don´t play well, and so they pre-recorded. What is troubling however, is the idea that the music business may have another Milli Vanilli on its hands if she is lip-syncing her concerts, etc.
As to her hair, I commend her colorist. The color isn´t as brassy as some I have seen.

I don´t know what is wrong with some people. This absolutely IS a big deal.
There is Joe Biden, right behind her, clapping and smiling as she hits the faked high notes. The Marine band forced to fake play.
Are we so jaded, so "it´s cool man, it didnt hurt anyone" in our thinking, that ethics just fall by the wayside?
This wasn´t a movie where someone lip synchs to Elvis. This was an inauguration. And part of it is faked, while other fake people stand around and act out fake admiration and fake playing of instruments. Then everyone claps about how "great" she is, when they were duped as to what they are hearing.
But it´s cool man, right? Would you object to your gardener, maid, babysitter, employee "faking" it too? How about the people who don´t have an issue with this, how about I fake tune your car up when you bring it to me for service?
Ethics are ethics, and right is right. Trash entertainer who is friends with a trashy administration.

Either way she will not be viewed by me. It figures she faked singing our beloved national anthem. Look at venue. Fake president and fake singer. What else is new.

Although the first votes on gun -control legislation have yet to be cast, by some measures the National Rifle Association has already won. Obama’s ambitious plans to ban assault weapons and limit magazine capacities are off the table, while the NRA suggested it could support the most likely outcome -- expanded background checks -- as recently as 1999. The NRA claims that the president’s efforts have triggered a fundraising surge and boosted its membership from 4 million to nearly 5 million.

Two New York Times columnists embarrassed themselves over the weekend, betraying anti-gun ignorance in the paper´s Sunday Review.Frank Bruni went hunting for the first time (with the chef of a ritzy Manhattan restaurant), and remarked "what an unfair fight" hunting is, as if he was the first person to think that up. After lamenting "how thoroughly a weapon can be romanticized and fetishized," he pivoted to easy access to guns in "this country of ours." I could forget, when not aiming at a bird, to keep the gun pointed toward the sky or the ground.

The Wall Street Journal has a big frontpage story today on the disability epidemic. It’s a good addendum to my column from last week. The unexpectedly large number of American workers who piled into the Social Security Administration’s disability program during the recession and its aftermath threatens to cost the economy tens of billions a year in lost wages and diminished tax revenues. Signs of the problem surfaced Friday, in a dismal jobs report that showed U.S. labor force participation rates falling last month to the lowest levels since 1979,

Articles in a series on Mashable.com called “What’s Inside” looked for all the world like the hundreds of other articles on the digital media site. But journalistically, they were something very different. The articles, about technology topics in a wide variety of products, including modems and the Hubble Space Telescope, were paid for by Snapdragon, a brand of processor chip made by Qualcomm, and the sponsor of the series. Most were even written by Mashable editorial employees.

By any observable metric, zombies are totally hot right now. Look at movies like "Warm Bodies" and the coming "World War Z," the ratings for AMC´s hit series "The Walking Dead" (12.9 million viewers for its recent season finale) and $2.5 billion in annual sales for zombie videogames. Over the past decade, between a third and a half of all zombie movies ever made have been released. A glance at Google GOOG -1.51%Trends reveals that in the past few years, interest in flesh-eating ghouls has far outstripped popular enthusiasm for vampires, wizards and hobbits.

J. David Kuo, an evangelical Christian conservative and former top official of President George W. Bush’s faith-based initiative who drew wide attention when he publicly accused the administration of failing to live up to the values it espoused, died April 5 in Charlotte. He was 44.He was diagnosed a decade ago with brain cancer, his wife, Kimberly, said. The arc of Mr. Kuo’s life and career had taken him from liberal to conservative, from hard-edged Republican activism in the 1990s to disillusionment with the idea that politics could serve as an extension of his faith. This country is an embarrassment. We can’t do anything right, least of all corruption. Look, when Venezuela’s populist demagogue Hugo Chavez died, word was he’d somehow accumulated an estate worth $2 billion. In the old days when the PRI party ruled Mexico uninterruptedly, every president got a single six-year term — and promptly retired at its close as a billionaire. And that was when a billion was real money.

Like most of you, I yearn for shorter winters, more shirt-sleeve weather, less lashing from frigid winds. As a confirmed New Yorker, I’m not willing to do what millions have done: move to the sunbelt. I want warmer weather here in the Big City. But I’ve grown old waiting for the promised global warming. I was 35 when predictions of a looming ice age were supplanted by warmmongering. Now I’m 68, and there’s still no sign of warmer weather. It’s enough to make one doubt the “settled science” of the government-funded doom-sayers.

The sequester may have many across the country singing the blues, but for President Obama, it was all about Memphis Soul. Even with the threat of furloughs and government cuts sparked by the sequester, Obama took the time to enjoy a star-studded concert at the White House tonight. The White House celebration of Memphis Soul music in the East Room--which included special guest appearances by Queen Latifah and Justin Timberlake--is likely to rile Obama´s Republican foes. In the message he issued along with his budget proposal on Wednesday morning, President Barack Obama said he wants to see 4-year-old children in the United States enrolled in public schools. Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

The state of California is reportedly considering legislation that would force group insurance policies to provide infertility treatment for gay and lesbian couples. Two men who have sex with each other for a year and do not produce a baby would be considered “infertile” under the proposed legislation. So would two women having sex. Since biology does not allow those without a uterus to conceive or those without a penis to impregnate, every year-long gay couple in California would potentially be covered by this new provision of California law.
