| Eliana Johnson noted yesterday on the Corner that a lawyer in the Voting Section of the Department of Justice, Dan Freeman, proudly announced on his Facebook page that he “started the crowd booing when Paul Ryan came out” at the inauguration. As I pointed out in my series of articles on hires at the Justice Department in 2011, co-authored with Christian Adams, Freeman is one of the very liberal lawyers hired by the Obama administration for a career civil-service position (not a political job).

It is no wonder students are so rude. Look at the role models. If a student at our high school had done that, he would be suspended. This lawyer should be fired. Surely some Republican in Congress will stand up and give voice to this, demanding that this clearly partisan lawyer be removed from what is supposed to be a non-partisan position. The public has to believe the DOJ is non-partisan and fair, after all. Hello? Republicans? Crickets.

This is why when a conservative admin gets back in, they have to clean ALL these ´career civil service´ types out of the woodwork. Otherwise they get leaks and deliberate sabotage of their goals. And don´t bother saying ´they can´t be fired´ - a good manager can sweep them out, and should. Then make all the positions at-will instead of union sinecure.

The details of a stimulus grant awarded to Indiana University to study condom use have now been released on a government website. The study, titled "Barriers to Correct Condom Use," is now completed, according to the website, and the university received $423,500 of stimulus funds to perform the study. The stimulus project yielded a total of 0.00 jobs created, according to the federal government. "No jobs created/retained," the form says under "Description of Jobs Created."

Pima County will spend $284,000 to save horned lizards and other critters from an untimely and premature squishing at a west-side construction site. Work is starting on a project to stabilize the banks of the Santa Cruz River from Ajo Way to Silverlake Road. The unemployment rate, because of a terrible statistic, is down to 7.6%. The number of people in this country who are not working is shameful. Ninety million Americans are no longer in the workforce. Ninety million. People not in the labor force grew by 663,000, and now 90 million. That´s the labor force participation rate. This is 1979 levels.
