Comparing the quiet during his tenure, to Rumsfeld´s time is not really fair. The press has not covered any segment of the on going war under the Obama Admin, but showed nothing but contempt towards Rumsfeld. The last thing I heard in the news about Afghanistan was that we were going to do a surge, similar to Iraq. How´d that surge work out in Afghanistan?

Generals, like all people, need to work for someone they can respect. I don´t know how anyone in the military can serve these days.

It would be interesting to hear what his views are on DADT. Having heard parts of the indogurination speech I get the feeling that this may be the new litmus test.

Remember Saddam ridding himself of all but the most devoted butt-kissers? I agree with you, #5. I have a nephew who will turn 18 this year and who is thinking of joining the military after he graduates in 2014. As much as I admire his aspirations, I don´t want him serving under 0bama.

I read an article about having Generals that can be called upon to murder U.S. citizens, and illegals I guess, if called upon. When you read the reasons for this you have to wonder if the evil intent from the top is to do just that eventually?

That is a nonsense statement regarding firing on American civilians. Military members swore to support and defend the constituion against all enemies, foreign or domestic. So, the military could fire on civilians. What you have to decide is whether you will allow Obama or any other politician to go far enough to set up the scenerio where that is possible.

On post #11 I have read several times that there is a new test he is asking his generals to take. I heard about this a couple of months ago when the Russians leaked to somebody that he was afraid that his own troops were going to turn on him. who knows but he is up to something and it is not good.

Agree w/#4. Mr. Owens speaks from a false premise concerning military leadership under Rumsfeld and Bush. I.e., because the decision to go to war was flawed, the campaign turned into a fiasco. Right... And the guys running the campaign had nothing to do with it.

It´s amazing how the "independent minded" former generals were so quick to jump on Rumsfeld and Bush publicly, while the press glossed over their failures in the actual conduct of the campaign.

#10, you are right, civilians head our military and the president is commander in chief. However, when our founders set it up that way, they never figured that the commander in chief would want to destroy the country.
