Obama Dumps a Smart,
Independently Minded General

Weekly Standard, by Mackubin Thomas Owens

Original Article

It seems clear that American civil-military relations have been healthiest when there is a high level of trust between civilian and military leaders, i.e. when there is mutual respect and understanding between them that leads to the exchange of candid views and perspectives between the two parties as part of the decision-making process. On the one hand, the military must have a voice in strategy making, while realizing that politics permeates the conduct of war and that civilians have the final say, not only concerning the goals of the war but also how it is conducted.

Obama´s only goal is to "defang" our military so that he can destroy Israel when he takes over Europe after 2016. Unfortunately, convincing us to deconstruct our military will require destroying our economy.

Comparing the quiet during his tenure, to Rumsfeld´s time is not really fair. The press has not covered any segment of the on going war under the Obama Admin, but showed nothing but contempt towards Rumsfeld. The last thing I heard in the news about Afghanistan was that we were going to do a surge, similar to Iraq. How´d that surge work out in Afghanistan?

Remember Saddam ridding himself of all but the most devoted butt-kissers? When he had himself surrounded by yes-men who didn´t dare bring him any bad news he felt that he was secure from ever being forced from office. We all know how that turned out. If BO gets rid of enough of our good military men because they don´t toe his line, there may be enough to form a "civilian national security force...just as well-funded as the Armed Forces."

The military is not to be in charge, the President is meant to be in charge.

This is another unintended consequence of the election.

FWIW Dr Jim Garrow (didn´t know who he was til just now)posted on Facebook "I have just been informed by a former senior military leader that Obama is using a new ´litmus test´ in determining who will stay and who must go in his military leaders. Get ready to explode folks. ´The new litmus test of leadership in the military is if they will fire on US citizens or not´. Those who will not are being removed."

national security policies of Obama.
For that, he was shown the door.
Hagel will fit right in and unless Democrats don´t vote for him, he´s a shoo in.
Only takes a simple majority to confirm a Cabinet position and Democrats hold the Senate 55-45.

Let me quote this again:
From Martin Amis’s book Koba the Dread : laughter and the twenty million
Bucharin in 1936 said:
[he] is unhappy at not being able to convince everyone, himself included that he is greater than everyone; and this unhappiness of his may be his most human trait, perhaps the only human trait in him. But what is not human, but rather something devilish, is that because of this unhappiness he cannot help taking revenge on people, on all people but especially those who are in any way better or higher than he.
Sound familiar? The name within the braces is of stalin.

That is a nonsense statement regarding firing on American civilians. Military members swore to support and defend the constituion against all enemies, foreign or domestic. So, the military could fire on civilians. What you have to decide is whether you will allow Obama or any other politician to go far enough to set up the scenerio where that is possible.

Agree w/#4. Mr. Owens speaks from a false premise concerning military leadership under Rumsfeld and Bush. I.e., because the decision to go to war was flawed, the campaign turned into a fiasco. Right... And the guys running the campaign had nothing to do with it.

It´s amazing how the "independent minded" former generals were so quick to jump on Rumsfeld and Bush publicly, while the press glossed over their failures in the actual conduct of the campaign.

I think Owens is another in a long line of Zero admirers who has just been mugged by reality.

With his disapproval ratings at record highs, his health law flailing, President Obama decided 2014 would be the year for a new agenda. "Inequality has deepened," he warned in the State of the Union. "Upward mobility has stalled." He laid out a roster of populist proposals: more unemployment insurance, raising the federal minimum wage, giving women "equal pay for equal work." The White House and congressional Democrats have since spent every waking minute holding rallies, issuing reports, tweeting and giving interviews on all those issues. The political calculus is that vulnerable Republicans can be bludgeoned into joining Democrats to support poll-tested

Two Chechen brothers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, planted the bombs. There are clear indications that they were inspired by jihadism. One by one, the myths of the Affordable Care Act have been revealed. When the curtain on open enrollment falls on March 31, the last remaining big myth of ObamaCare will be fully exposed: The individual mandate has failed. After a last-ditch effort with President Obama himself encouraging "young invincibles" to sign up before the deadline, the administration is scrambling to boost enrollment. On Tuesday, the White House announced that people who applied for coverage on the federal health-insurance exchange will have until mid-April to finish the paperwork. The mandate was supposed to be the administration´s magical elixir for the assorted shortcomings

More than six million Americans have now signed up for private insurance under the Affordable Care Act, according to the White House, with just four days to go until the end of its first open enrollment period. While traveling in Italy on Thursday, President Obama shared the news in a conference call with thousands of health-care navigators and volunteers helping enroll people on state and federal marketplaces. As the volume of consumers seeking health plans has surged -- there were over 1.5 million visits to HealthCare.gov Wednesday and more than 430,000 calls to the marketplaces´ call centers -- Obama urged those on

When Jorge Mario Bergoglio became Pope Francis a little more than a year ago, the first thing that struck those who knew him well was his unexpected, beatific smile. “In Argentina, he didn’t smile like that,” Sergio Rubin, the pope’s biographer, said this week at a conference sponsored by the Ethics and Public Policy Center. “That was the big surprise.” Since then, the pope has mostly kept on smiling — in homilies, in audiences, in meetings with the homeless and the poor. If you look at the pictures from Francis’ meeting with President Obama on Thursday, though, the smile is there only some of the time.

Their target is the GOP, but they are not angry liberals bent on destroying it. They are reform-minded Republican leaders intent on strengthening it. These Republicans are applying conservative principles to 21st-century challenges, focused on middle-class concerns like lowering costs and improving access to college, modernizing health care and reforming the tax code. They aim to broaden prosperity´s reach through markets and merit, not government and corporate cronyism. They´re also concentrating on helping the poor by changing Washington´s dizzying assortment of antipoverty programs to emphasize work and make the safety net more effective and sustainable. The reformers´ success in providing

One is a world leader who has been praised for his humility and outlook on the world. The other is an American president, once the international superstar of the political stage. So it is no surprise that President Barack Obama has travelled to the Vatican in Rome possibly to get some tips from the popular Pope Francis who now even has own weekly glossy magazine dedicated to him. As he sat down with the Pontiff at the Vatican this morning, Obama called himself a ´great admirer´ of the pope. Their historic first meeting comes as Obama´s administration and the church

Usually the type of Republicans MSNBC hosts invite on their shows are either craven RINO types who can be depended upon to trash talk fellow Republicans, or the more inarticulate, dimmer bulbs in the party who fail to communicate conservative positions effectively. MSNBC host Chris Hayes had an entirely different type of animal on his hands with PA Americans For Prosperity Director, Jennifer Stefano. In fact, he´s probably still licking his wounds after the nasty confrontation he had with her, Wednesday night in a debate over the latest ObamaCare delay. He got off on the wrong foot by introducing Stefano

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas. Some of these methane emissions come from

Joe Newby at The Washington Examiner has found a real doozy of a “comedian.” Her name is Laura Levites – with obviously no connection to the priests of the Old Testament. (She´s an atheist with a fondness for Ricky Gervais.) "I would personally like to castrate every Male Conservative Christian so that they have NO reproductive rights," she wrote on Twitter, using the hashtag "#HobbyLobby." She certainly knows how to draw attention to herself. Newby said that’s not all. She also expressed her hatred of Christians in a tweet calling conservative Christians "******bags," claiming they are "really trying" her patience.
