A dolphin tangled in fishing line sought help from a diver in the waters of Hawaii.[Snip]Mr Laros was leading a group of snorkelers for a manta ray dive experience off the Big Island´s Kona International Airport when the dolphin squealed out, with the man telling the local media ´there was no question this dolphin was there for help.´ The group were enjoying the aquatic sights when suddenly they heard a dolphin cry and the bottlenose dolphin swam in their direction. Mr Laros told KITV how he soon noticed that the dolphin´s movements were inhibited because it was

Dolphins and whales are highly intelligent. So are octopi, believe it or not!! But I truly believe that a lot of animals are much smarter than people give them credit. I know my cats are extremely intelligent and they have emotions too... I am not projecting either. I have always had close relationships to all sorts of animals and can communicate well with many. This is why I know that animals are sentient and have a soul too. Besides, how can there be a heaven if my loved ones won´t be there to greet me when I get there!? No, they´ll be there too. But honestly, we are all God´s children. We just got a better deal by having flexible vocal chords and opposable thumbs!

My wife and I had a similar experience on a remote beach in baja. After we dragged the obviously pregnant beached dolphin back into the water she panicked, butting her nose into an offshore sandbar. After freeing herself, she swam back around to us in hip deep water and rested against our legs while we held her in the surf for well over 10 minutes. Once her breathing slowed, she wiggled a little bit, then slowly moved off through the surf, doing two or three jumps outside the sandbar. Unfortunately we had no camera, but our unforgettable experience leads me to believe the behavior in the article quite credible.

A powerful earthquake measuring 8.2 on the Richter scale struck off northern Chile Tuesday night, setting off a small tsunami that forced evacuations along the country´s entire Pacific coast and much of Latin America. Chilean officials say two people died when the earthquake struck at 8.46pm local time and several others are seriously injured. While it appears the area escaped major damage and casualties, landslides blocked roads, power failed for thousands, an airport was damaged and several businesses caught fire. About 300 inmates escaped from a women´s prison in the city of Iquique, and officials said Chile´s military was sending a

Under California law, residents signing up for government services like welfare or other public assistance must also be sent a voter registration card. But a couple of lifelong Republicans were shocked this week when the state´s Obamacare registrar sent theirs with ´Democratic Party´ already checked off. Following a lawsuit from a voting-rights group, Covered California began sending out more than 4 million voter registration forms last week. But they´re supposed to be completely blank. ´It´s a waste of money because there´s an awful lot of people who are going to get this that are already registered and they don´t need

This ancient and priceless teddy bear could be the beloved childhood toy of Egyptian pharaoh Tutankhamun. Archaeologists unearthed a 3,000-year-old mummified teddy bear, believed to be the oldest in existence, at a tomb in Egypt. And it has led experts to believe the Ancient Egyptians not only cuddled up with the toys at night, but once worshipped their furry playthings. The landmark discovery marks the first time an Egyptian teddy bear has been discovered in perfect condition. The ancient toy was excavated in a funerary deposit in the Valley of the T’eds, near Luxor in Egypt.

On the final day of enrollment this year for medical insurance under the Affordable Care Act, the federal government website that runs the program went offline. Again. And White House Press Secretary Jay Carney found himself in the awkward position of taking a victory lap--citing enrollment totals of more than 6 million--while last-minute customers were frozen out of the system. Carney appeared rattled at the beginning of his daily press briefing, committing an unforced error that quickly attracted scorn on social media. ´Six out of ten people without insurance can get insurance for $100 a day or less,´ he said,

Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in

I argued that the only way to level the playing field is to return to a more traditional approach--one of the reasons the poorest 10 percent of teenagers in Shanghai perform at the same level in international maths tests as the richest 20 percent in Britain. British troops will take part in wargames in the Baltics in order to reassure Ukraine in the face of a potential Russian invasion, the Defence Secretary said today. Philip Hammond said Britain would stand by its Nato allies as he warned Russia may attempt to seize more territory. He said claims from senior generals that defence cuts had left the Armed Forces “hollowed out” are “nonsense”, and insisted withdrawing armoured regiments from Germany to bases in Britain would make them more effective. If all the recent scare stories about sugar in food drove you to drink, it turns out that it wasn’t necessarily the best place to go. Research conducted for The Sunday Telegraph reveals that a single pint of cider contains as much sugar as the World Health Organisation recommends should be an individual’s daily limit. Scrumpy, it seems, is best avoided if you are on a diet. Worryingly high quantities of the sweet stuff were also found in Baileys Irish Cream and sherry, although, admittedly, those are drinks that tend to be limited to a single glass: rarely does anyone

Obamacare, the plan purportedly created to provide health coverage for the uninsured, has enrolled just 1.7% of America´s 48.6 million uninsured. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,
