The NYPD probably wouldn´t have been so reckless in firing if they were limited to 7 round magazines.
A civilian CCW holder is expected to account for every round fired in such a situation. Any doubts how a NYC CCW holder would have been treated by the NYPD if he/she wounded 9 bystanders, no matter circumstances – such as stopping a killer?
BTW- NYPD fired 16 rounds to stop this one person, pales in comparison to the 46 shoots to kill Amadou Diallo, but it still took far more than 7 us serfs will be limited to.

I hope there´s more to this suit than just this, because failing to "exercise proper police tactics and procedures" isn´t a crime. Maybe negligence... ? Story doesn´t say, though.

Nine people were hit BY THE FRIGGIN´ POLICE before the cops finally zeroed their sights and found the bad guy.
Good for this law suit! This student should nail these incompetent clowns to the wall and have her college, graduate degree, and post-doc work paid for.
Bottom line is this: cops aren´t magical beings. Generally speaking, they´re schmucks. They have no special powers and they usually go to shooting ranges a whole lot less often than the rest of us. The government and its propaganda machine have convinced most of us that cops are super-beings. Sorry to disappoint, but many of them know just enough to be extremely dangerous.

NYPD guns are modified with a nearly impossible trigger resistance. it is supposed to prevent accidental discharge, what it does is make it impossible to hold a bead on a target and squeeze while maintaining aim. unintended consequences of a feel good regulation. plus I am sure they spend far too few sessions at the range getting competent.

CHICAGO — A federal appeals court won´t reconsider an earlier ruling that Illinois´ concealed carry ban is unconstitutional. A three-judge panel of the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Illinois´ ban in December and gave lawmakers until June 8 to legalize the concealed carry of firearms. Attorney General Lisa Madigan asked for all 10 judges to review the decision, saying it conflicted with decisions by other federal appellate courts and goes beyond what the U.S. Supreme Court has held. Illinois is the only state in the nation that still has a ban in place.

A knife-wielding attacker killed at least two Japanese tourists and wounded 11 others on Tuesday in a tourist district on the U.S. Pacific territory of Guam, government officials said. An armed guard at a Georgia middle school disarmed a student who had opened fire, wounding one person. A student opened fire at his middle school Thursday afternoon, wounding a 14-year-old in the neck before an armed officer working at the school was able to get the gun away, police said. Multiple shots were fired in the courtyard of Price Middle School just south of downtown about 1:50 p.m. and the one boy was hit, Atlanta Police Chief George Turner said. The Rochester Police Department Chief James Sheppard said during a press briefing Wednesday afternoon that two male suspects entered the home at 442 Congress Avenue just after midnight Tuesday morning.
