"First they came for the local radio hosts...." If you want a glimpse into the real, practical mechanisms whereby unprincipled political power diminishes and silences opposing voices, look not to the nationally-publicized attacks on Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck. Look to what happens at the local level, to people who do not have a national microphone and millions of defenders. Consider the example of Brainerd, Minnesota´s (population 13,613) local conservative radio show.
Comments: Boston is down from 3 talk stations to one. A team of liberal talkers have found a home on the local NPR outlet, the good conservative talkers are looking for work. Long article but with the 1.6 Billion kitty that was posted last week, I don´t doubt it is the plan.
WBT 1110 in Charlotte used to be a great, big conservative station. But they have fired all of the conservative local hosts and now have the snotty liberal duo Brad and Britt in the afternoon drivetime slot. Only Rush remains but I choose to listen to him online. After WBT fired their fabulous conservative host Tara Servatius in 2010, I was so furious I quit listening.
Busting Britches, Kemo Sabe!!! Just wait until they dust off the fairness doctrine! The stars align. He´s gonna go for broke. Were I Rush with his bundle I´d move to Costa Rica and ignore the quagmire of takers. He has done all he can. Now it´s just gonna eat him up alive.
Would like for Rush to be more practical and less pie in the sky. Optimism is a hallmark of conservatism, but the hard reality is our country is gone. I have come to terms with that. However, I will not abide being subject to liberalism. Maybe it´s too much to ask, but I would love to hear some discussion from Rush on actionable ideas to secure our freedoms.
Shutting down these oafs would be very good for the GOP. These people are very entertaining yet they´ve already cost us 5 Senate seats and they kneecapped Romney straight out of the gate. Their ratings soar as America circles the toilet bowl. Conservatism needs more rationalism, less hysterical demagoguery.
Air America was funded privately and still didn´t work because 1. Shrill mob anger isn´t entertaining 2. Hosts enducated in public schools aren´t thoughtful 3. Conservatives listen to Rush while out in car doing work (something Obama doesn´t require). 4. Communists are untalented
But here is Obamination fact: 1. America´s credit has been downgraded 2. We borrow money to pay Obamas bills (tell your grandkids) 3. Unemployment among black Americans in 35+%
Starting in August of this year, here in MA, we have lost the ability to listen to at least 10 conservative talk-show hosts(esses also). And as far as I can see, no one seems to want to talk about it. If the idiot in the whitehouse goes after the remaining talk show hosts (Limbaugh, Levin and Savage)that will finish it here in MA. And we will silently submit.
This is an excellently presented article. Here’s its money quote:
“Having learned the hard way that liberal talk radio cannot compete for listeners with conservative hosts -- the reason is obvious, and explains the "need" for NPR: extended political discussion, in order to be engaging, requires rational arguments and supporting facts, which leftists cannot provide.”
The major difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives think for themselves while liberals have others do their thinking for them.
Left wingers are very good at intimidating potential advertisers. Their favorite tactic is to classify every conservative position as ´´hate speech´´. I don´t care how good your ratings are - if you can´t sell ad space you can´t stay in business. (That was the likely reason Beck had to leave Fox - only niche businesses like gold salesmen were willing to buy air time with him.)
Actually they are doing very well but.... for me what is killing conservative radio is:
Hearing Rush under cutting republicans and too much whining then slipping in a commercial during the talking and Sean Hannity reading his talking points loudly and often and Mark Levine speaking normally then yelling or the drip drip of condescension from Michael Medved or the Heidi Harris, Brian Whitman and Ben Shapiro show. I can listen Ben & Heidi but the liberal Brian has got to go. Stop pretending liberals are equal. Their ideas are bad. See evidence around the world.
Here in LA we have morning shows 640 KFI Bill Handle (vote obama liberal who can´t hold a coherent thought very long) and Kabc 790 Doug McIntyre who is on just long enough to tell you part of a story then another commercial comes on and repeat. I think it takes him 1 hour to tell a 3 min story.
Conservative talk radio seems to be in fine shape here in the Southeast near Savannah, GA. We have a good local Conservative talk show host Bill Edwards in the mornings from 6 to 9 AM on 1290 WTKS. Rush can be heard on at least 6 different stations up and down the dial in the afternoons. We have Glenn Beck twice a day, Sean Hannity, Michael Savage, Mark Levin, Laura Ingraham and a few others weekdays. Conservative Radio Heaven down here.
JUNEAU, ALASKA — An unannounced federal inspection found unsatisfactory conditions aboard a cruise ship that has spent considerable time in Alaska waters this season. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention gave the Silver Shadow a score of 82 during the June 17 inspection. Scores of 85 or lower are considered unsatisfactory. A port schedule shows the vessel was in Skagway that day. The inspection, among other things, found an organized effort to remove more than 15 trolleys of food and spices, including milk, eggs and raw meat, to individual cabins shared by crew members to avoid
CAIRO — At least 40 people were killed Monday in clashes outside a military building in Cairo where supporters of the former president were holding a sit-in, an Egyptian health ministry official said. Military spokesmen said gunmen opened fire on troops at the building, killing at least five supporters of Mohammed Morsi and one officer.
CAIRO — A Defense Ministry official says army chief Gen. Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi is meeting with his top commanders, hours before the military´s deadline to the president and opposition to resolve the nation´s political crisis is set to expire. The military says if no agreement is reached,
SURREY, British Columbia — A Boston Marathon-style attack on Canada Day festivities Monday was disrupted when the Mounties nabbed an al-Qaeda-inspired couple and seized pressure cooker bombs, police said. John Stewart Nuttall and Amanda Marie Korody were inspired by al-Qaeda ideology but were self-radicalized, (Snip) Malizia said there was no evidence to suggest a link to the deadly Boston Marathon bombings in April. But the plot outlined by the RCMP appears to parallel the case in Boston, where federal prosecutors say the Tsarnaev brothers learned how to make pressure cooker bombs from an online al-Qaeda magazine,
So now the wrong has been declared right, not by a consensus of Americans, but rather by government fiat, the way they do it in nations where people live under the thumbs of tyrants, having no voice in their own affairs. We once pitied them. Now we’re beginning to resemble them. What happened yesterday was an abomination, not only in the way the Supreme Court trashed the institution of marriage, but also in the way its liberal branch slapped a muzzle onto the populace, in effect ruling the will of the people is of no consequence
Well, that was fun. Another election, another moderate/independent/“I’m not one of those” Republican nominees goes down to defeat in Massachusetts. If it’s true that insanity is doing the same thing again and again but expecting a different result, the Massachusetts GOP should spike the lemonade at its July Fourth BBQ with Thorazine. According to the data available at Wikipedia.com, there have been 102 elections for federal and statewide office in Massachusetts in the 21st century. After yesterday, the Republicans’ record? Two wins, 100 losses.
Sexual assault has emerged as one of the defining issues for the military this year. Reports of assaults are up, as are questions about whether commanders have taken the problem seriously. Bills to toughen penalties and prosecution have been introduced in Congress. (Snip) the Pentagon says 53 percent involved attacks on men, mostly by other men
(Boston)—Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democrat Edward Markey face off in their final debate in Massachusetts´ special U.S. Senate election. The candidates are sparring in an hour long debate Tuesday night at the studios of WGBH-TV. The debate is sponsored by a consortium of Boston media outlets. The matchup comes as Gomez struggles to close a gap with Markey, who has held a modest lead in recent polls. Gomez has portrayed Markey as an entrenched Washington insider, while Markey said Gomez is beholden to the national Republican agenda.

AMMAN - Jordan´s King Abdullah said on Sunday the kingdom was ready to fight to protect itself against any threat to its security from the escalating civil war in neighboring Syria. ISTANBUL - Turkish riot police stormed a central Istanbul park on Saturday firing tear gas and water cannon to evict hundreds of anti-government protesters hours after an ultimatum from Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan. Lines of police backed by armoured vehicles sealed off Taksim Square in the centre of the city as officers stormed the adjoining Gezi Park, where protesters had been camped in a ramshackle settlement of tents for more than two weeks. Residents in surrounding neighbourhoods took to their balconies or leant out of windows banging pots and pans,
BELCHERTOWN, Mass. — State police are appealing a decision by a clerk magistrate not to issue criminal complaints against seven people allegedly found trespassing at the Quabbin Reservoir last month. The five men and two women weren´t arrested, but went to district court in Belchertown for a show-cause hearing, where the clerk issued a continuance without a finding and declined to issue criminal complaints.(Snip) They told police their curiosity was professional.
Conservative bloggers went wild Monday when they got wind of the Congressional Black Caucus’ suggestion that President Obama pick Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee of Houston for the post of Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Rich Cooper, avid blogger for Security Debrief, responded to the news of the Jackson Lee recommendation in a post by saying, “Apparently, it is not a joke. For reasons that baffle any sense of reality, it is a serious gesture on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) to encourage President Obama to nominate Rep. Jackson Lee
There have been days since her son Ezekiel was born 11 months ago that Los Angeles mom Beth Capper has gone without food to keep up her supply. One friend was arrested for stealing some. It´s not drugs or alcohol or even baby formula that has put her in such a bind. It´s diapers. "There´s no way around buying them," said Capper, a 41-year-old single mother who doesn´t work because of a disability. Across the country, mothers like Capper are facing the same predicament. America is in great shape energy-wise. We have more gas and oil reserves than ever before. Indeed, the United States could shortly become the world’s largest exporter of coal. Our cheaper power rates may bring energy-intensive industry back from Europe and Asia. If America’s small colleges are nearly broke and our public schools failing, nonetheless our blue-chip universities’ math, science, and engineering departments, and professional schools, remain the best in the world. Anthony Weiner may have violated federal law when he failed to disclose his lavish six-figure wedding in his financial disclosure forms, says a government accountability group. Ethics watchdog group National Legal and Policy Center examined the federal Financial Disclosure Reports for both Weiner and long-suffering wife Huma Abedin for 2010, the year of their wedding. The cost for the ceremony was at least $100,000 but probably ran closer to $250,000 including all
In an interview on National Public Radio (NPR), House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said her new agenda for women will give mothers access to day care so they can “earn without carrying the burden of child care.” During the interview, aired on Weekend Edition Sunday, Pelosi spoke about her newly announced agenda, which is on her website, and is titled, “When Women Succeed, America Succeeds: An Economic Agenda for Women and Families,” a plan that includes universal pre-school and access to day care for working women, and an increase in the minimum wage.
Many low-income families receive government assistance to help them purchase food and housing. Diapers are another story, a new study suggests. In what they are calling the first peer-reviewed study to quantify diaper need, Yale University researchers have found nearly a third of mothers cannot afford to purchase their infants diapers, raising health risks for not only babies but for moms who become stressed over the finances. "Notably absent from the antipoverty efforts targeting families is an essential staple for the health of children, diapers," wrote the researchers, led by Dr. Megan Smith,
Mideast: The sequester has "cost jobs," says President Obama, and "gutted investments in education and science and medical research." But somehow he´s earmarked $500 million for Hamas terrorists. Circumventing Congress and with no fanfare, President Obama last week issued an executive order enabling him to send an additional $500 million directly to the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank — much of which you can bet will wind up going to the Iranian-backed Hamas terrorist organization. According to Obama, "it is important to the national security interests of the United States to waive the provisions of" Congress´ legislative restrictions "in
The mother of Trayvon Martin said Monday that she believed Florida’s Stand Your Ground law played a role in her son’s shooting death, but she wasn’t ready to support a boycott of the state for not changing the self-defense law. “The thing about this law is I just think it assisted the person who killed my son to get away with murder,” Sybrina Fulton, the mother of the 17-year-old from Miami Gardens, said at a National Bar Association event in Miami Beach. “I think we have to change these laws so people don’t get

Karl Rove and more than one hundred Republican donors sent a letter to Republican members of Congress on Tuesday, urging them to pass a comprehensive immigration reform bill that would include, among other provisions, granting "legal status" to illegal aliens who meet certain criteria. Anticipating that lawmakers will face resistance to the bill when they go home for the August recess, the letter marks the escalation of a campaign in which Republican leaders and donors are pressuring House Republicans to act on an immigration reform bill.
