Yes, many Constitutional guarantees would not be enforced if subjected to popular vote including perhaps slavery at the time enforcement of the Second Amendment today. That statement is completely false and has nothing to do with gun control logic.
There were more people living in non slave states than slave states. There were many more people than did not own slaves than people than owned them.
If there had been a vote to end slavery, it would have ended years before it did!
The end of slavery comparison is a Red Herring argument. There is only one reason government wants to take guns away from the general population, and it has nothing to do with our safety.

I quit watching Shep a long time ago. And I am not at all sure that polling the original 13 colonies around the time the constitution was written would have found the majority supporting slavery. The anti-slavery movement was rolling pretty strong around the (non-Islamic) world by that time.

If so, how did Lincoln get elected? Why didn´t the popular majority elect someone who would have preserved the right to own slaves? The Bill of Rights, by the way, is intended to preserve the rights of the minority as well as the minority, so the popular sentiment in favor (or opposed) to gun ownership is irrelevant.

The new form of slavery started under Lyndon Johnson and continues today.
The slaves of today are totally dependent on government..they are incapable of feeding themselves and their children without government help. Ditto housing themselves, ditto transporting themselves, paying their heating bills or thinking for themselves..and they are incapable of leaving the plantation because they have no skills to help them become independent, as their role models are their mothers and grandmothers who are also dependent on government.. THIS in spite of Head Start, public schools and AA to get to college.
Yes, there are some who know 2+2=4, but they don´t know how to get there.
We would be doing them a favor by cutting off welfare and forcing them to live independently..or be hungry.
