Shep Smith On Lukewarm Gun

With The Polls, We’d Have Had
Slavery A Lot Longer’

Mediaite, by Noah Rothman

In a conversation with The Hill editor A.B. Stoddard, Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith expressed his frustration with the lack of demand among lawmakers in Washington for new gun control measures. Stoddard observed that there is no consensus in public opinion polling data on gun control, and even less consensus among lawmakers on what new measures to adopt. Smith countered by insisting that had America’s lawmakers relied on polling data alone, “we’d have had slavery a lot longer than we did.” (Snip) Smith noted that President Barack Obama made some promises during the campaign which he must

Shep just argued against his own position. Yes, many Constitutional guarantees would not be enforced if subjected to popular vote including perhaps slavery at the time enforcement of the Second Amendment today. It is the difference between rule of law and rule by men. Of course Shep is such a dull knife.

That statement is completely false and has nothing to do with gun control logic.
There were more people living in non slave states than slave states. There were many more people than did not own slaves than people than owned them.
If there had been a vote to end slavery, it would have ended years before it did!
The end of slavery comparison is a Red Herring argument. There is only one reason government wants to take guns away from the general population, and it has nothing to do with our safety.

I quit watching Shep a long time ago. And I am not at all sure that polling the original 13 colonies around the time the constitution was written would have found the majority supporting slavery. The anti-slavery movement was rolling pretty strong around the (non-Islamic) world by that time.

Ya, except, slavery was unconstitutional.

AND, this can be argued both ways.

Still, the premise is incorrect.

Life, liberty and property are denied where slavery is permitted.

If he understood the constitution, he wouldn´t have made this silly conclusion.

If so, how did Lincoln get elected? Why didn´t the popular majority elect someone who would have preserved the right to own slaves? The Bill of Rights, by the way, is intended to preserve the rights of the minority as well as the minority, so the popular sentiment in favor (or opposed) to gun ownership is irrelevant.

Who wanted to keep the slaves on the plantation? It was democrats that were involved in the Klu Klux Klan. (Robert Bird, (D) senator was in the KKK)It was George Wallace (D)that stood on the steps of a school and tried to keep black students out.
It was Spain that brought the slaves here and blacks, (their own people) in Africa that captured them and turned them over to the Slave traders.
Yet it is taxpayers today whose money went for reparations to people who thought they deserved it because their ancestors were slaves. Maybe they should have gone to Africa to make their homes if it means so much to them. I´m sure their futures would be much more secure than they are here in the USA,

Shepard Smith is just one of Fox´s token liberls along with Beckel,Jerry Rivers, and now that socialist of socialists Kucinich. That´s how Fox can make the claim "Fair and Balanced" and have it acually be true. Smith is one of those people who sticks their wet finger in the air and decides then which way to go on an issue. He is obviously incapable of taking a true, genuine, principled position on much if anything. Truly spineless.

The new form of slavery started under Lyndon Johnson and continues today.
The slaves of today are totally dependent on government..they are incapable of feeding themselves and their children without government help. Ditto housing themselves, ditto transporting themselves, paying their heating bills or thinking for themselves..and they are incapable of leaving the plantation because they have no skills to help them become independent, as their role models are their mothers and grandmothers who are also dependent on government.. THIS in spite of Head Start, public schools and AA to get to college.
Yes, there are some who know 2+2=4, but they don´t know how to get there.
We would be doing them a favor by cutting off welfare and forcing them to live independently..or be hungry.
So if Shep is against slavery, he should be faulting the government on a daily basis.
In the meantime, while wolf cubs roam the streets with their illegal guns, I will damn sure keep my legal guns to protect me and mine.
14% of our total population is draining the life blood out of this Country.

Black children represent about 18 percent of children in preschool programs in schools, but they make up almost half of the preschoolers who are suspended more than once, the report said. College basketball can wait. Did you know that March is actually National Nutrition Month? Today, First Lady Michelle Obama urged Americans via her "Let´s Move!" initiative to challenge their family members to eat one new fruit or vegetable per week in March to faithfully observe the occasion. "March is National Nutrition Month and you can celebrate by challenging your family to try a new fruit or vegetable each week," First Lady Michelle Obama said in an e-mail to supporters today. W hen news broke that respected fashion designer L´Wren Scott had passed away on Monday, The New York Times noted her suicide with the regrettable headline "Mick Jagger´s Girlfriend Found Dead." The Times wasn´t alone in its faux pas; the Associated Press dutifully tweeted, "BREAKING: Law enforcement: Mick Jagger´ [sic] girlfriend, L´Wren Scott, found dead in NYC of possible suicide." Though the AP managed to slip Scott´s name in the headline of the report, both news organizations seemed to agree: Scott´s death was newsworthy only because of her romantic association with a legendary rock and roller.
