Probe of Newtown shooter
Adam Lanza focusing on murderer’s
psychotic break’ and unlocked guns

New York Daily News, by Matthew Lysiak

Original Article

Posted By:FlyRight, 1/22/2013 8:16:43 AM

The high-powered weapons that Adam Lanza used in his murderous rampage weren’t routinely locked up in his home even though his mother knew he had serious psychological problems, a close family friend told the Daily News. Investigators are focusing on whether Lanza had a “psychotic break” before he murdered his mother, then shot to death 26 children and staffers at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month, the friend said. Nancy Lanza had brought her son to a psychiatrist and pushed him to get out of the house as he became increasingly antisocial, according to the friend.

Astonishing. What an irresponsible mother. I wonder if the shooting´s survivors will sue her estate? I think they should.

She was clearly not a responsible gun owner. Perhaps we need more education on how to responsibly own guns. I hear all the time that the government should not infringe on the rights of responsible gun owners, but what about irresponsible gun owners??

Read the article and, at this point, am taking it with a grain of salt. I fear that we may never know the truth behind this tragedy as law enforcement and the media literally shutdown all reporting on the story within a day of the massacre.

The friend speculates because he saw guns months before the shooting that she had not secured them b/t then and the massacre. Could be true, could also not be true. The friend also discusses some "serious drugs" that he was on but says he doesn´t (a) know what they were and (b) whether he´d stopped taking them. And the friend tells us this kid played video games non-stop (assuming violent video games, not pac man).

So, the conclusion could be that this tragedy was a combination of all of the above. I´m just wondering why Big Pharma wasn´t summoned to the White House along with the NRA?

Why is it taking so long to provide real information to the public? My gut says because they need to carefully match up their "evidence" with the narrative they want to share with the public.

The proble is, you can´t fix stupid or an attitude problem.

She would be one to attend your ´own guns responsibly´ class, then go home and think it doesn´t apply to her

This is precisely the problem, and the answer is parent commitment papers. In order for Mrs. Lanza to commit her son, she needed to hire a lawyer to petition a court, have hearings, wait for a decision, and have a judge decide what should have happened to Adam. A judge would never know her son as well as she did.
It ought to be up to the parents. If a parent decides that her son is a danger to himself and others (including herself) that should be enough to commit someone.
The decision is in the hands of mental health and legal professionals. That is so wrong on so many levels, and these shootings will continue until the law changes.

Crazy people belong in asylums, not left to their own devices in homes with unlocked guns.
This should be common sense, but we live in an age where everything is upside down.

In another article, posted here weeks ago, another person - who did not choose to remain anonymous - said she was very careful with her guns and they were locked in a room in her basement.

I do not trust the Daily News, nor do I put much stock in reports from anonymous "friends".

(cont´d)

It took 5 seconds to find this from an article in the Hartford (CN) Courant, December 19, 2012:

State police detectives returned to the home on Yogananda Street home he shared with his mother Wednesday night. They have been combing the 4,000 square-foot house since moments after the gunfire stopped inside the school.....The basement also is where Nancy Lanza, a gun enthusiast and target shooter, kept her collection of weapons in a locked box. She had at least five weapons – two handguns a semi-automatic rifle, a .22 caliber rifle and a shotgun. Lanza had all the weapons except the .22 with him when he drove to the school. (Emphasis added)

http://articles.courant.com/2012-12-19/news/hc-lanza-ghost-20121219_1_nancy-lanza-adam-lanza-home-computer

On December 17,

The friends, who called her a vivacious "country girl", insisted that the weapons would have been locked up at the home where she had lived alone with her youngest son after Ryan moved away and her divorce from their father, Peter.

"She was very responsible," said another.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/northamerica/usa/9751240/Connecticut-school-shooting-Adam-Lanzas-mother-thought-guns-would-teach-him-responsibility.html

On December 16,

A friend of Nancy Lanza, who had done contracting work for her, was last in the home eight months ago and remembers seeing a lock box in the basement where Lanza kept her guns.

http://www.news8000.com/news/Shooter-s-mother-wanted-her-son-to-fit-in/-/326/17796132/-/57ss19/-/index.html

The body of evidence leans heavily toward her having kept the guns in a locked box.

Why is it important for us to crucify Nancy Lanza?

She is already dead. Her son murdered her first. Accounts from those who knew her best said she was a good person, a responsible mother, a fine member of the community.

Really good people sometimes have children who, for whatever the reason, do very, very bad things.

Until we can read the actual Police Report, do not persecute the mother.
I bet she kept the key to that box around her neck, or under her pillow.
She protected the guns with her life.
Readers, where do you keep your guns?
As far as taking him to the shooting range..he could have been close to normal during his earlier years, and as he matured got worse. She was trying to be both father and mother to him..boys like to shoot, don´t they?
Lay off the mother, please.

I am with earlier posters here. Since we have not been told the truth about this situation yet, we don´t know what happened in that home. If she had one of the guns unlocked, where she could get at it, she may have been trying to protect herself since she was unable to get help for her son from the proper authorities.

She did pay the ulimate price for any possible ´irresponsible´ behaviour on her part now didn´t she?

"High Powered" weapons are more commonly used for big game where a huge amount of ´knock down´ is required. In an assault one prefers to be able to carry more rounds of a smaller caliber. 50cal. is only used as a turret mount or a sniper. The fraidy-cats just want to use words that scare the lo-fo´s and the ´elites´.
A tiny 22 pistol with suppressor is a truly dangerous weapon and is used by people who plan to get away with it...as opposed to the ready-for-prime-time nutters who are being trotted out (...or created ) to star in the grabber circus.

Whatever she did or didn´t do, she paid with her life. I´m more interested in the whole story of Newtown´s ´security´ setup. Are there still fools around who think a simple red lettered sign that says, ´Gun Free Zone,´ deters anyone with malice in their head? Shouldn´t the sign be a warning instead of a magical thinking statement? Something like, ´Lethal Force Will Be Used On Anyone Attacking Our Community.´ One of the reasons the crazy, but not stupid, Lanza went to an elementary school instead of a high school was to avoid strong response. Then someone needs to explain why they approved a buzz in lock next to a window. Any lock can eventually be defeated, but why so easy and why no lethal or disabling force behind the door? We know why, it was just a genteel show. No one really thought about what the creepy kid who acted weird his whole life might do someday.

A triumphant President Barack Obama declared Tuesday his signature medical insurance overhaul a success, saying it has made America´s health care system ´a lot better´ in a Rose Garden press conference. But buried in the 7.1 million enrollments he announced in a heavily staged appearance is a more unsettling reality. Numbers from a RAND Corporation study that has been kept under wraps suggest that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans – nowhere near 7.1 million – have paid for new policies and joined the ranks of the insured by Monday night.
