Virginia GOP ram surprise
redistricting plan through Senate

Washington Examiner [DC], by Steve Contorno

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 1/22/2013 5:10:48

Senate Republicans surprised everyone Monday by ramming through a vote for new district maps that improve their political fortunes, winning majority of support for it because a Democratic lawmaker was attending the inauguration. The power play occurred when Sen. John Watkins, R-Midlothian, introduced a bill amendment that significantly redraws Senate district boundaries so Republicans can potentially pick up an additional seat in the 2015 elections. The new map means two senators -- Democrat Creigh Deeds and Republican Emmett Hanger -- will have their districts combined. Republicans said it was an effort to correct maps passed in 2011 that split communities.

We´ve already got that thanks to Progressives and Liberals...We want to get back some level of normal, if that´s possible.

Oh, and I´m sure the Injustice Department will declare the whole thing to be racist, just watch.

Since I have little confidence in those inside the beltway, my hopes rest on the individual states being the places where the battle to retain (regain?) our freedom will be fought.

I agree that States Rights is back being the best solution. It always was. In my day it became associated with segregation. Honestly, It was a correct association but not entirely. When the white/black schools were combined after so many years of separation there was nothing but peaceful silence in my town. But the difference between levels of knowledge has grown. When the blacks first entered the ´white´ schools they were on par for the most part. Now they are way below average. Don´t know why but reporting facts.I believe segregation was wrong but also know that integration has lowered the level of learning more for blacks than whites. I think the way it was handled was wrong. Liberals did not want us to gradually integrate and let time heal and unite. No. They wanted slam bang and it kept us divided even in the same school. That is what they actually wanted. No liberal wants the people united. Divide and conquer.

One was a leader in the Republican Party, reported to be on the short list for a vice-presidential nomination in 2012. The other is a rising star among Democrats, who in less than a year has gone from a little-known state senator to a high-profile campaign for governor. Now, former Virginia Governor Robert McDonnell is under indictment for corruption, his reputation in shambles. And Texas Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis has found that her rise to fame has brought harsh scrutiny, as she is forced to explain discrepancies in details of her past. The two politicians´ stories may seem quite different, but

There´s been a lot of blathering about who the front-runner for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination is, and so far I´ve resisted taking part. But I guess I´m kind of curious: Is there much of a case to be made for anyone other than Paul Ryan? On the substantive side, Ryan sure seems like he´s setting himself up for a run. There´s his steady series of "unheralded" anti-poverty outreach trips that always manage to be just heralded enough to get sympathetic press coverage. He brokered a budget deal with Patty Murray that was businesslike and low-drama but didn´t alienate the tea

Perhaps the most unpleasant aspect of my otherwise quite enjoyable job as a college professor has been the requirement to assign grades to students. Given that we’re now about halfway through implementation of the Affordable Care Act—which even President Obama is happy to call “Obamacare”—it seems appropriate to assign midterm grades. These are not intended as a forecast of the final grade; moreover, implementation of Obamacare is the responsibility of many thousands of individuals, not just one. Nevertheless, as President Truman’s legendary Oval Office desk sign reminds us, “The buck stops here” when it comes to presidential leadership. So whether

It was wrong for New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof to publish a one-sided, decades-old, discredited claim of child molestation against Woody Allen. This yellow journalism may harm the fight against child sexual abuse, by undermining far more credible claims. The accusation stemmed from a bitter custody dispute between Allen and Mia Farrow, where Farrow ultimately claimed that, in the midst of the dispute, Allen took Dylan Farrow, 7, into an attic-like space at the actress’s Connecticut home and molested her. Yet, again, officials examined and rejected the charges at the time. A team of independent child-abuse specialists at Yale-New Haven Hospital

On a bitterly cold night in January 2000, the blocks around the Ziegfield Theatre were packed—an enormous crowd of invitees snaked around the streets looking for a way to get into the already overcrowded theater. Virtually everyone invited had, remarkably enough, shown up—an unexpected inconvenience. The occasion: the second-season premiere of "The Sopranos," where, it was understood, the cast would be present, actors whose names were, then, still far from familiar. Which was beside the point—people had come just to lay eyes on Tony Soprano; his wife, Carmela; Paulie, Uncle Junior, Silvio, Christopher and the rest; not to mention Dr.

Better yet, even after a rocky start in 2014, it was going to be good for their businesses. And indeed, it is likely that the reason they agreed to let the federal government tell them what they can sell or not and at what price is that they thought this was worth it in exchange for Obamacare’s forcing citizens to buy their products. But what will this bargain take? One large health insurer, Humana,

Mr. Obama wants Americans to believe that the targeting resulted from the confusing tax law governing nonprofits, which he says was "difficult" to interpret and resulted in mere "bureaucratic" mistakes.
