Where´s Mitt? In warm, sunny California

| It’s chilly on the Capitol steps today, but that’s no problem for Mitt Romney. The former Republican presidential contender is spending Inauguration Day at his home in La Jolla, Calif., where it’s sunny with a forecasted high of 73 degrees. An aide told NBC News that the former Massachusetts governor and his wife have "no big plans." Asked if the governor was likely to watch the inaugural ceremonies today, the aide said, "Doubtful." It’s not surprising that Romney is keeping himself far from the fanfare and tri-color bunting; he’s kept a low profile since losing the election in November.

"Romney’s son Tagg told The Boston Globe in December that his father was never really all that into winning the nation’s highest office anyway."
Therein lies the problem.

Baloney, #1. Tagg meant that Mitt Romney´s life would go on if he lost. He had a life before and he has a life after, but he gave us his best effort. The wrong man was inaugurated today.

Craven politicians are the problem. The country needs more people like Mitt Romney who answer the call out of a sense of patriotism rather than a desire to see themselves on TV 24/7.

I do believe Romney wanted it (the son may have said that out of modesty, or saving face). I also believe that the Romney family may decide to have a second base in an economically freer place like Uruguay, Chile or New Zealand which also have a high percentage of Mormons in the population. They probably feel less than welcome to stay in the new collectivist America.

Oh hogwash that he didn´t want to be President. It is hard to beat someone that is grounded in fraud and freebies. My assessment is that Mitt thought the good people would win over the corruption. Not so. This administration knows how to be very, very good at corruption. Look at Obama´s home base.
Mitt would have been proud and honored to be the President of the USA. Oh, and humbled. Enough said.

The GOP ran its very best candidate. (If there was someone better - that person wasn´t running.) Mitt campaigned hard. But it is difficult to win when you have against you The Press, an opposition party with absolutely no compunction not to cheat (I have seen it for myself), Whites on a guilt trip (who ´surprisingly´, locate themselves in all-white states - VT, ME, OR) or at least in all-white neighborhoods (´uh, it´s for the better schools´´).
Mitt is not really in a position to ´lead´ the party now. He holds no office - unlike previous losers like McCain or Kerry. If he can accomplish any good at this stage it will probably have to be in the background.

Predictably Willard´s pom-pom gang will man the barricades w/their embarrassingly lame excuses whenever this feckless loser is the subject; just as they did during the primaries. Suggest Romney stay permanently in Cal along w/a political soul mate like Arnie; twin poster boys for the what the GOP has become; a dying party led by gross incompetents.

Mitt and Ann Romney are great people and we would benefit from their service.
Need we note that instead, we have a Wannabe Kommie Dicktater who hates us, the constitution, and America itself.
Warm weather is very appealing this time of year. Having lived in DC a number of years and in Southern California almost as many years, I´d take La Jolla over the District any day.
Mitt´s way ahead of the crowd, as always. Personally I prefer that he run again next time.
Skip Iowa. Win New Hampshire. You´re on your way. Great organization and support just waiting. More youthful than Reagan at same age. A wealth of experience in many fields. And a fantastic campaigner who works very hard. Aced the debates all year.
America will be aching for mature, outstanding, responsible leadership by 2016. Cain´t hardly wait!

Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. "I know he was off."

The Dow Jones and Standard & Poor’s 500 indexes reached record highs on Thursday, having completely erased the losses since the stock market’s last peak, in 2007. But instead of cheering, we should be very afraid. Over the last 13 years, the stock market has twice crashed and touched off a recession: American households lost $5 trillion in the 2000 dot-com bust and more than $7 trillion in the 2007 housing crash. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

President Obama´s biggest gaffe yesterday when speaking of California Attorney General Kamala Harris was not in flirtatiously complimenting her as "the best-looking attorney general," but in introducing an observation from the system of beauty into a forum that was about the system of power. What´s that, you say? Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter. But I´ve long felt we lack a solid theoretical underpinning for easily discussing these issues, and why precisely it is that

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Put out an all-points bulletin: Millions of Americans have gone missing from the workforce. Every month that those would-be workers are gone raises the odds that they might never come back, dimming the prospects for future economic growth. The vanishing trend is more than a decade old, but it accelerated during the Great Recession. Throughout 2012, economists held out hope that it had stopped. But then came Friday’s jobs report, and hopes were dashed. The Labor Department reported that the U.S. labor force — everyone who has a job or is looking for one — shrank
