Broken viewing screen frustrates
thousands on the National Mall

The Hill [Washington, DC], by Mike Lillis

Original Article

Tens of thousands of people who flocked to the Mall to watch Monday´s inaugural ceremony will have to watch a replay to hear what President Obama said. A television set up just north of the Washington Monument was streaming terribly, sending a garbled signal — both audial and visual — that left observers west of 15th Street having to guess half of what Obama was saying. Many in the crowd – perhaps thinking there was another big screen on the south side of the monument – trudged that way only to find nothing,

This is a victory parade for all of the EBT-carrying, Medicaid-receiving, Head Start-loving, who-cares-about-the-deficit liberals. The rest of America is at work.

"Who is John Galt?"

In "Atlas Shrugged" the phrase was a euphemism that was expressed when people were discussing a situation where nothing seemed to work well anymore - at all levels.

After a meal at a local restaurant yesterday - which used to be packed with the Sunday-after-church-crowd, but was nearly deserted, our waitress came to our table near the end of the meal and thanked us and said she was being sent home. We reflected on the fact that the quality of the food and service was declining in many of the places we frequent.

It´s hard to blame the owners, or the people who work there. Their costs are going up, hours are being cut and their hope for the future is dwindling.

"Who is John Galt?", indeed.

The Clinton Library took the wraps off another batch of White House documents Friday afternoon, offering new insights into how aides scrambled to address the Monica Lewinsky scandal, how the hot-button issue of race tied the White House staff up in knots and how former President Bill Clinton cast a wide net for advice in advance of his major speeches. The new set of Clinton documents make little mention of then-first lady Hillary Clinton, and so are unlikely to have a major political impact. WASHINGTON — The online insurance marketplace in Oregon is such a technological mess that residents have been signing up for health coverage by hand. In Texas, political opposition to President Obama’s health law is so strong that some residents believe, erroneously, that the program is banned in their state. But in Connecticut, a smoothly functioning website, run by competent managers, has successfully enrolled so many patients that officials are offering to sell their expertise to states like Maryland, which is struggling to sign people up for coverage. The expected rate hikes will be announced in the coming months amid an intense election year, when control of the Senate is up for grabs. Before getting to the speech itself, it’s worth noting a few things. When the Democrats passed and Barack Obama signed Obamacare, the majority opposed it. About 56%, in fact. A majority have consistently opposed that law ever since. The Obama administration touted 7 million sign-ups by March 31 as “success.” When that goal appeared to be unreachable, the administration suggested that maybe 5 or 6 million would be enough. A RAND study pours buckets of cold water on the Obama administration’s claims that it has nearly reached 7 million sign-ups for Obamacare. The whole point of Obamacare, supposedly, was to insure the uninsured and bend the cost curve down. Those who had insurance were supposed to be able to keep it. Families were supposed to start saving about $2500 a year. If you believed the Obama administration. Reality, according to RAND‘s study, is that the Obama administration’s 7 million figure is deceptive. Supposing 7 million have actually signed up and paid their first premium — which is not a given,
