Al-Qaida flourishes in Sahara,

RABAT, Morocco— The Islamists are back as a force in Algeria. The terrorist attack on an Algerian natural gas plant that left dozens of hostages and militants dead has demonstrated how a failing Algerian insurgency transformed itself into a regional threat, partly by exploiting the turmoil unleashed by the Arab Spring revolts. Al-Qaida´s branch in Algeria retreated into a Sahara no man´s land between Mali, Algeria and Mauritania after it was largely defeated by the Algerian army in a 10-year war in the 1990s that claimed 200,000 lives. There it grew rich on smuggling and hostage-taking, gained new recruits

Of course Al-Qaida flourishes everywhere, because we have a leader who does nothing to stop them. Yesterday, he said he wants to understand them. I can tell him: they want to kill us, end of story.

Terrorists Take Fallujah;
Obama Doesn’t Care

The Obama administration has been disgraceful in so many ways that it is hard to keep track of them all, but surely one of the worst is its treatment of Iraq. Following his inauguration, President Obama withdrew troops from Iraq on the timetable that had been agreed to by the Bush administration. But as the draw-down continued, and it became apparent that security would worsen dangerously in the absence of American power, he refused to consider leaving even a small contingent of troops to help the Iraqi government resist terrorist forces. The result is that Iraq, like Syria, Egypt and Libya, has been under siege by Islamic terrorists.

New Obamacare glitch

Another day, another Obamacare “glitch” destined to make life unbearable even for those who have been able to sign up. Yes, the White House continues to crow about the 2 million people they say have signed up, although that is far below the 7 million they had estimated would be signed up by now. But yesterday we learned that even those who have been patient and somehow got themselves enrolled, well, they need to hope there’s not a New Year’s baby in the picture for them. The Associated Press reported yesterday — and the White House confirmed — that the

Detroit— If more citizens were armed, criminals would think twice about attacking them, Detroit Police Chief James Craig said Thursday. Urban police chiefs are typically in favor of gun control or reluctant to discuss the issue, but Craig on Thursday was candid about how he’s changed his mind. “When we look at the good community members who have concealed weapons permits, the likelihood they’ll shoot is based on a lack of confidence in this Police Department,” Craig said at a press conference at police headquarters, adding that he thinks more Detroit citizens feel safer, thanks in part to a 7

In a year-end editorial, the Gray Lady opined: In eastern Long Island, especially in and around the town of East Hampton, the privet hedges, gentle dunes and white-seashell paths present a vision of a natural world tamed and tailored to the high aesthetic standards of the finest fashion and home-décor magazines. It´s a bit of English countryside, but with bigger cars.

According to a detailed report, Kim Jong Un fed his Uncle Jang Song Thaek to a pack of hungry dogs, a deviation from the traditional method of execution by firing squad. "Jang was stripped naked and thrown into a cage, along with his five closest aides. Then 120 hounds, starved for three days, were allowed to prey on them until they were completely eaten up. This is called "quan jue", or execution by dogs." The report, appearing in a Chinese controlled newspaper, stated that the "execution" lasted for one hour and was supervised by Kim Jong Un and "300 senior officials."

Bitter cold. Below-zero. Blizzard conditions. Sorry, Northeast. But those are phrases you´ll be using a lot Friday amid a monster storm. And not just the Northeast, forecasters said. About one-third of the nation -- approximately 100 million people in 22 states -- is in the path this storm. But the Northeast will be hardest-hit, the National Weather Service said. "Heaviest snow will fall from central New York to the Massachusetts coast. Blizzard conditions are possible for eastern Long Island and the Massachusetts coast. Bitter cold will move into the Midwest and East following the storm," the Weather Service said. The
