President Obama´s not-quite Camelot
Politico, by Jennifer Epstein & Glenn Thrush

President Barack Obama’s new license plates may read “District of Columbia” but his head, heart and body language shout “I’m not from around here.” Local leaders believed that Obama, the first African-American president and an avowed urbanist, would fulfill his promise to embrace a many-hued metropolis overshadowed by white marbled official Washington. A few even believed he would expend political capital, as Jimmy Carter did, to back voting rights or statehood on behalf of district residents. The city’s fraying, graying Georgetown townhouse aristocracy — the ones who had dismissed Bill Clinton as a hick two decades earlier —

Washington DC is not a state and does not have the constitutional authority for Senators, nor House members. The people living in that 10 square miles knew this before they moved there.

I assume if DC got statehood, they would also get two more liberal senators. If I´m not mistaken DC was set up as a neutral area to house government offices.

Ireally don´t get all these libals rags being down on Obama all of a sudden. Maybe it´s a collective to downplay expectations for Obama´s next for years. But to wallow in idiotic sentiments like a 2nd coming of camelot, shows these morons don´t really get the devastation going on across this country.

Maybe Obama/Lincoln thing isn´t sticking the way they hoped.Their biggest problem is convincing people failure means success only because Obama´s too brilliant to make a mistake.

the left wing central planners behind Obama have to realize he doesn´t have the time or money to finish the country off.

I agree with #4, but I would classify his look as arrogant. It really spoils my breakfast to have to see him early in the morning. Or afternoon. Or evening. In don´t ever remember seeing George Bush´s picture confronting me every day. Although he never had that smug/arrogant look on his face that Obummer has all the time.

The very purpose of setting up DC was to house the Federal Government on territory that was "neutral" between all States. Otherwise New York City would have been fine the way London or Paris were for the UK and France. As the poster above said everyone should know this. But then Chuck Shumer should also know that writing a budget means doing so without raising further taxes.

Last month, Allahpundit touched on the rather gruesome story of a Copenhagen zoo which shot Maurice the giraffe in the head and fed him to some lions. In closing, he asked what may have turned out to be a somewhat prophetic question. How much of an uproar would there have been if Marius had belonged to a more aggressive, less cuddly species? Probably no death threats if he was Marius the alligator, I assume. Well, AP, it looks like we may have at least a partial answer to that query. Granted, we’re not talking about an alligator here (or any other cold

After a disastrous presidential campaign in 2012, can Texas Governor Rick Perry mount a credible bid for the White House in 2016? Texas Governor Rick Perry is currently on a media tour touting the theme that America is a great place for second chances, specifically second chances for Texas governors with national ambitions. Perry is trying to erase the memory of his disastrous 2012 GOP presidential campaign which included “brain-farts” and “oops” debate moments with his folksy, charming, and uniquely American manner. Oral arguments at the Supreme Court on Tuesday in the Conestoga Wood Specialties and Hobby Lobby case showed bureaucrats and special interest groups led by the abortion lobby are willing to coerce you to participate in anything they say is a “right,” especially abortion. The government´s view is so extreme that Justice Anthony Kennedy was inspired to ask whether the government´s theory means a business “could be forced in principle to pay for abortions,” and that families in business “just don´t have any standing to vindicate [their] religious rights.” “You’re right,” declared U.S. Solicitor General Donald Verrilli. While we’ll never know exactly how the phone call went, if you read how the Obama administration described the conversation between Putin and Obama, and how the Russians described it, you’d think they were two completely different phone calls. Here’s the readout from the Obama admin: President Obama underscored to President Putin that the United States continues to support a diplomatic path in close consultation with the Government of Ukraine and in support of the Ukrainian people with the aim of de-escalation of the crisis. President Obama made clear that this remains possible only if Russia pulls back its troops and does

Fast cars, luxury yachts, international five-star resorts, top-shelf liquor and fine china from Bloomingdale’s — this sounds like a rap song, but this is the life of some members of Congress. For example, Rep. Rob Andrews (D-NJ) was exposed in a 60 Minutes investigation for spending leadership PAC money on the items listed above. And, my guess: he isn’t alone. We, the taxpayers, shouldn’t accept this behavior; we must fight it. I will do my part in ending this corruption by championing the following reforms when elected to Congress: Ban immediate family members from registering as lobbyists. The Ohio poll worker was sentenced last July to five years in prison after being convicted of voting twice in the 2012 election and voting three times — in 2008, 2011 and 2012 — in the name of her sister, in a coma since 2003, according to USA Today. This might be below Chicago graveyard standards, but it’s still impressive. To chitchat with his fellow democratic leaders of the G-7 this week in Europe, Barack Obama required 900, including a small air force and private army. Given how very little is accomplished at any of these diplomatic gatherings (and in particular this one, which came up with a most mealy-mouthed denunciation of Russia’s invasion of Crimea), the fact that our still-global celebrity president feels the need for an entourage befitting an Ottoman Sultan is a perfect example of government decadence in

And the claim is that for-profit corporations such as Hobby Lobby have no right to make free-exercise claims under the First Amendment. Justice Samuel Alito raised the issue of kosher and halal slaughterhouses during the oral arguments. It hasn’t generated much press attention, but it made for a fascinating exchange.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc this week sued Visa Inc for $5 billion, accusing the credit and debit card network of excessively high card swipe fees, several months after the retailer opted out of a class action settlement between merchants and Visa and MasterCard Inc. Visa declined to comment on the suit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Arkansas, where Wal-Mart is headquartered. Visa and other card networks charge retailers fees, called swipe fees or interchange fees, each time a shopper uses a debit or credit card to pay. In December, a federal judge in Brooklyn,

As part of its plan to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions, the Obama administration is targeting the dairy industry to reduce methane emissions in their operations. This comes despite falling methane emission levels across the economy since 1990. The White House has proposed cutting methane emissions from the dairy industry by 25 percent by 2020. Although U.S. agriculture only accounts for about 9 percent of the country’s greenhouse gas emissions, according to the Environmental Protection Agency, it makes up a sizeable portion of methane emissions — which is a very potent greenhouse gas.
