Clerk Dorothy Brown chaired fund-raiser

A re-election fundraiser that Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown chaired for then-New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin almost seven years ago was mentioned prominently in the federal corruption indictment unsealed against him Friday. (Snip)Brown, who is a Louisiana native, chaired the fund-raiser at the Plaza Club, on the 40th floor of the Prudential Building. At the event, she said she admired Nagin’s response to Hurricane Katrina, which devastated New Orleans in 2005. “I was just so impressed how he stood so tall when he wasn’t getting any help from the governor and he wasn’t getting any help from the president,”

The problem the gov. and Nagin ran into was people in other part`s of the state didn´t want NO refugees invading their towns/parishes.Still,Nagin was holed up on the top floor of a hotel while the whole disaster was going on.Hard to believe someone would have the gall to claim he did a great job.

Nagin, from Dallas Texas, stood tall helping New Orleans, when he was getting no help from the governor or the president. Yep, there was Nagin in the NO neighborhoods asking people to leave, directing the evacuation -- no, he was in Dallas.

Senator Ted Cruz is tired of talking about the government shutdown. “I understand that there are a lot of folks in the media that love to talk about the shutdown from four months ago,” he told reporters: What we ought to be talking about is the fact that we have the lowest labor force participating in 30 years since 1978, that Obamacare has taken away more than 5 million people’s health insurance plans, that people are hurting, that income inequality has increased under the Obama agenda and that there is an abuse of power and lawlessness.(Snip)Now why oh why would Senator Cruz

Quarterback Eli Manning and New York Giants brass created bogus “game-worn” football gear to pass off as the real deal — and one of the forgeries is sitting in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, an explosive new lawsuit claims. A helmet on display in the hallowed Canton, Ohio, gridiron museum — supposedly worn by Manning in Big Blue’s 2008 Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots — is just one of dozens of fake items the football superstar and his Giants cohorts have created to fool fans and make money from collectors over the years, the lawsuit alleges.

A funny thing happened to President Obama on the way to Pittsburgh today — some guy made him wait 22 minutes in Air Force One on a freezing tarmac. That guy was Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., who was hitching a ride on the president’s plane. Casey was seen sprinting across the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews more than 22 minutes after President Obama boarded for his short flight to Pennsylvania. A spokeswoman for Casey said the senator was checking on the status of “some important votes” and then hit a snag. “Senator Casey had to double check on the timing

WASHINGTON -- Campaigns for secretary of state, often relegated to the back burner of American politics, are drawing increasing attention from Democratic and Republican groups that hope to influence how elections are overseen in a number of presidential battleground states. Democratic strategists who have advised the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama and Bill Clinton were launching a political action committee called iVote on Thursday, vowing to back Democrats running for secretary of state in Iowa, Colorado, Nevada and Ohio. A Republican super PAC called SOS for SOS has outlined plans to spend up to $10 million this year to bolster

We found a few overstatements and cherry-picked numbers among the applause lines and proposals in President Obama´s State of the Union address. • He boasted of businesses creating "more than 8 million new jobs" in the last four years. But that leaves out a loss of government jobs, not to mention the loss of jobs earlier in Obama´s presidency. • Obama credited the Affordable Care Act with signing up more than 9 million Americans for private insurance or Medicaid. But Medicaid estimates include renewals, along with new enrollees. • Obama boasted that the U.S. "reduced our total carbon pollution more than any other

What is the GOP’s health care plan? For years, this has been the rejoinder from supporters of Obamacare whenever asked to confront the flaws in their own legislation. It was an attack line, but also a question worth asking: For the last five years, Republicans have spent plenty of time bashing the president’s health law, but far less time describing what they would do instead. A new proposal from Republican Sens. Coburn (Okla.), Burr (N.C.), and Hatch (Utah) represents a tentative attempt to respond substantively to the question. It’s called The Patient Choice, Affordability, Responsibility, and Empowerment (CARE) Act, and

President Barack Obama delivered a State of the Union Address on Tuesday that was important less for what he said than for what it says about him. The speech was long, more than an hour. At times it was defiant, at others it felt almost conciliatory. But mostly the speech was forgettable, disposable – a long list of modest policy proposals that will not be remembered for much longer than their echo in the House chamber. On domestic policy, we knew what to expect. The stars of last year’s speech – immigration and gun control – were mere afterthoughts this year,

Obama won’t give it up. If you also suffered through the State of the Union address, you heard him praise Obamacare, claim he would slash bureaucracy, and of course, fight for income equality. Obama pandered to the ladies, his tone becoming more passionate with every overly emotional word: Today, women make up about half our workforce. But they still make 77 cents for every dollar a man earns. That is wrong, and in 2014, it’s an embarrassment. A woman deserves equal pay for equal work. You have probably heard that statistic—77 cents on the dollar. Speech after speech from the left side of town
