Minorities losing ground
The Durango Herald, by Burt Hubbard and Ann Carnahan Espinola

Original Article

Posted By:cjjeepercreeper, 1/20/2013 11:06:30 AM

By some of the most important measures of social progress, black and Latino residents of Colorado have lost ground compared with white residents in the decades since the civil-rights movement. Minority gains made during the 1960s and 1970s have eroded with time, an I-News Network analysis of six decades of demographic data from the U.S. Census Bureau found. In other categories, the gaps between whites and minorities have steadily widened since 1960.

The article is not long. A few highlights:

At the same time, many thousands of Colorado’s good-paying, blue-collar manufacturing jobs have disappeared, hurting minority families disproportionately.

“CF&I Steel (in Pueblo) once had 13,000 employees,” said former state Sen. Abel Tapia of Pueblo. “That used to be a path toward middle-class prosperity.”

and

The percentage of single-parent families and the number of births to single mothers has soared among black households, exacerbating the gaps, and immigration and teenage births in the Latino population have also led to widening disparities, experts said.

When will they understand that the policies of Obama and the Democrats are wrong. They must also do something about the number of births to single mothers. The flood of Latino illegal immigrants has provided far too much unskilled labor for the economy to support and too many births to teenaged mothers.

Colorado will end up a welfare state.

Blacks have been suckered by the Plantation Party. Rather than risk life as a free man or woman, they settled for a government check. They have become captives of their new master, mother government, and have been kept in bondage, isolated in their crime ridden ghettos, by a steady succession of poverty pimps: LBJ, Jesse Jackson, Lou Farakhan, Al Sharpton, Suge Knight, Jay Z, Malik Zulu Shabazz. Your brothers and sisters have held you back. They´ve ratted you out the moment any of you stepped off of that plantation and dared to live your own life rather than to be defined, if not owned, by your keepers in Washington DC and their minions working your neighborhood block.

2. I´d actually like to see White Suppression of minorities come to an end. All those interminable meetings! How to oppress blacks, how to oppress Mexicans, how to do it all under the radar so nothing can be proved. Hey, I did my share, but I have things I want to do for myself now, y´know? All this oppressing and all those meetings -- how will I ever have time to catalog my CDs and DVD? Finish collecting and printing articles on stellar fusion processes and types of supernovas? For some reason, DH always checks the births column in the paper to see how many new parents are married, how many list a couple but not married and how many just list a female. This week there was 11 births, two were married, one was by herself, so 8 were couples but not married. The surge in the popularity of inexpensive but cutting-edge smartphones is more than just another marketplace success story. It is one with profound social implications, particularly among low-income Black and Hispanic consumers who have long been on the losing end of the digital divide. If there has been any recent development that has helped to bridge that divide in communities like my own here in Harlem, it has been the advent of low-priced smartphones. Indeed, studies have shown that Black and Hispanics access the Internet on a cellphone, tablets or other mobile handheld devices at demonstrably higher rates than whites.

A federal appeals court on Thursday upheld Texas´ tough abortion restrictions that have led to the closure of nearly 20 clinics around the state, saying the new rules don´t jeopardize women´s health. A panel of judges at the New Orleans-based 5th Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a lower court judge who said the rules violate the U.S. Constitution and served no medical purpose. Despite the lower court´s ruling, the appeals court already had allowed some rules to go into effect while it considered the case. On the eve of the Netanyahu visit to Washington, President Obama gave a lengthy interview to Jeffrey Goldberg that shows a chief executive who has learned next to nothing about the world in his five years in office. First, kudos to Goldberg: he pressed Obama repeatedly, challenging vague formulations and seeking clarity. Goldberg pushed Obama hard, especially on Iran and Syria. Obama isn’t good off the cuff, especially when challenged; he is far better with a prepared speech. And what emerged is an awful portrait of the president and his conception of the world.

How do you ensure that you won’t be ostracized, denounced, or fired if you are a media celebrity, captain of industry, or high public official? For some, sexist banter is certainly no problem. Stand-up comedian Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a c–t and a tw-t, but suffered no ill consequences. David Letterman joked on air that Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter had had sex with Alex Rodriguez during a New York Yankees game. There was no downside to that either. President Obama tosses around “sweetie” as he wishes. No problem with that. No one believes Barack could be condescending to women.
