| WASHINGTON – The inauguration ceremony for President Obama’s second term will be held on Monday, but besides being sworn in on a platform on the West Front of the Capitol, he will participate in a whole range of events, from volunteering to ballroom dancing. Since the inauguration happens to fall on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the event will be preceded by the first family taking part in the National Day of Service on Saturday in recognition of the civil rights leader. The White House has called for those in Washington, D.C., and people nationwide to join the president

A pal in Oklahoma said street next to her were readying hundreds of signs for their yards for Monday. They say, "This is STILL Reagan country." As we are in western WA state, probably get arrested if we put this out in our very status-conscious neighborhood.

I´m not sure I get the connetion between MLK and a day of service or whatever. The left has MLK as one of their biggest icons,so they have to further embellish him somehow. It´s just sickening how the left wraps themselves in MLK but ignores the most profound thing he ever said.He envisioned races coming together with a common strain of character, when character means almost nothing to today´s left.
Instead they use crackpot memes like diversity to force people together.
I´m sure that King really believed in God but if you mention Him in public today, you´re sure to get Tebowed.

DALLAS– Monday’s bombings of the Boston Marathon raised questions about security for the upcoming dedication of the George W. Bush Presidential Center on April 25. All five living Presidents are scheduled to participate. Security planning started months, maybe even a year ago for the event. Officially, agencies aren’t saying much. But at least four police departments and the secret service are planning for it. “You’re always in a state of re-assessment,” said Danny Defenbaugh, and he should know. The former head of the Dallas FBI also led that agency’s investigation of the bombing of

The Senate could vote as soon as Wednesday on a bipartisan proposal to expand background checks on firearm purchases, as a highly personal lobbying campaign continued on Capitol Hill. But the White House and Democrats still lack the 60 votes they will need to pass the bill.Former Rep. Gabby Giffords, who was seriously wounded in a Jan. 2011 shooting that left six other people dead, received a long ovation when she entered the Senate Democratic Caucus lunch on Tuesday with her husband Mark Kelly. “She’s our whip,” said Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), who along with Pat Toomey (R-Pa.)

Now do you think we need a death penalty here in Massachusetts? I understand, it’s too late now to strap whoever committed this atrocity into Old Sparky. You can’t pass laws ex post facto, unless they’re tax increases. But whenever the fiend or fiends are finally lugged, you know very well how the case will transpire. The bomber will turn out to be indigent, like multimillionaire gangster Whitey Bulger. And the bomber’s “public defender” will hire psychologists, on our dime of course. They will unanimously claim that the bomber is a good boy, a very good boy.

Everyone has heard the phrase, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” That’s precisely the predicament that Congress is in today with the Senate’s immigration proposal. Though perhaps well-intentioned, the Senate proposal repeats the mistakes of the past. The Senate amnesty proposal is flawed for many reasons, but three in particular. First, the Senate bill legalizes almost everyone in the country illegally before the borders are secure. It provides legalization first and enforcement later, if ever. In 1986, Congress gave amnesty to 3 million illegal immigrants. It was agreed to with the promise

A bipartisan group of lawmakers formally filed an 844-page immigration bill on the Senate floor early Wednesday morning, setting the stage for months of public debate over the proposal. Leading Capitol Hill opponents of the proposal to overhaul the nation’s immigration system are coalescing around a strategy to kill the bill by delaying the legislative process as long as possible, providing time to offer “poison pill” amendments aimed at breaking apart the fragile bipartisan group that developed the plan, according to lawmakers and legislative aides.

DALLAS - Pat Summerall was the calm alongside John Madden´s storm. Over four decades, Summerall described some of the biggest games in America in his deep, resonant voice. Simple, spare, he delivered the details on 16 Super Bowls, the Masters and the U.S. Open tennis tournament with a simple, understated style that was the perfect complement for the "booms!" and "bangs!" of Madden, his football partner for the last half of the NFL player-turned-broadcaster´s career. Summerall died Tuesday at age 82 of cardiac arrest, said University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center spokesman Jeff Carlton,

WASHINGTON – The United States is footing more of the bill for overseas bases in Germany, Japan and South Korea even as the military reduces the number of American troops in Europe and strategically repositions forces in Asia, a congressional report says. The exhaustive, yearlong investigation by the Senate Armed Services Committee focused on costs and burden-sharing as the United States spends more than $10 billion a year to back up the U.S. military presence overseas, with 70 percent of the amount expended in the three nations. The figure does not include military personnel costs.

As we´ve noted, the liberal media generally and the Big Three broadcast networks in particular have studiously avoided paying attention to the Kermit Gosnell murder trial. The Philadelphia abortionist is charged with murdering newborns who survived abortion attempts and were born alive. But aside from the criminal aspect of the case, there´s other angle in the Gosnell matter that is of interest to political observers of the 2014 election cycle, particularly the Pennsylvania governor´s race. One of the Democrats vying for the nomination to challenge Gov. Tom Corbett (R) is Rep. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.), who operated an abortion clinic

But Karnamaya Mongar was insistent: after 20 years living in tin-roofed huts in a Nepal refugee camp, with three children, and just four months in the United States in Woodbridge, Va., another baby would be too much. "She said, ´We´re just getting started here,´" Gurung testified today. So, about 16 weeks pregnant and rejected by two women´s clinics in Virginia and one in Washington, Mongar, Gurung and her mother-in-law, and Mongar´s brother Damber Ghalley headed for Philadelphia on Nov. 19, 2009 to the clinic of Kermit Gosnell.

Though President Obama himself had not been expected to attend, there had been speculation that he would be represented either by Vice President Joe Biden or wife Michelle. BOSTON -- The bombs that blew up seconds apart at the finish line of one of the world´s most storied races left the streets spattered with blood and glass, three dead, including an 8-year-old boy, more than 140 wounded and gaping questions of who chose to attack at the Boston Marathon and why. In light of the explosions that have rocked Boston on Patriots’ Day, during the city’s annual marathon, NBC reporter Luke Russert took to Twitter to speculate that today’s horrific events could possibly be related to the 1993 government siege on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas — an incident often attached to conversations about “right-wing terrorism” and anti-government violence. “I was at Fenway Park w my dad and @mikebarnicle during Waco which was on Patriots Day in 1993. Speculating on possible link,” Russert tweeted following the explosions.

Protocol: President Obama declined to send a high-level delegation to Wednesday´s funeral of Britain´s Margaret Thatcher. It´s a measure of how little he values the special relationship — and a sign of his own smallness. Back in more gracious times, vice presidents routinely attended funerals of foreign dignitaries. As such, the presence of Vice President Joe Biden — if not Obama himself — would seem fitting for as significant a U.S. ally as the late Prime Minister Thatcher, if not out of warmth of feeling, then simply to represent the U.S.´ gratitude. "The notion that Congress would defy the overwhelming instinct of the American people after what we saw happen in Newtown, I think, is unimaginable." As we now move into the official Political Aftermath period of the Boston bombing — the period that will determine the long-term legislative fallout of the atrocity — the dynamics of privilege will undoubtedly influence the nation’s collective reaction to the attacks. That’s because privilege tends to determine: 1) which groups are — and are not — collectively denigrated or targeted for the unlawful actions of individuals; and 2) how big and politically game-changing the overall reaction ends up being.
