| Apparently, there´s a presidential inauguration scheduled for this holiday weekend. The real one occurs Sunday out of general public view. The parties will then re-enact the ceremony for those watching TV around Monday noon on the King holiday. Less interest in this one, which is not surprising for second terms that often do not turn out so well for incumbents. One interesting historical footnote: This term of the 44th president marks only the second time in U.S. history that Americans have reelected three presidents in a row. Previously, only No. 3, 4 and 5 held that distinction:

#8: Obama´s father was a British subject. Obama is therefore Constitutionally ineligible for the office. The Presidency became vacant at the end of the term of our 43rd President, George W. Bush. Further, as the Constitution requires the President and Vice Presidential candidates to run together, as a ticket, the office of VP is likewise vacant.
So, as I said, we still don´t know who the 44th President will be.

Like many holidays, Easter is often associated with family memories. For me, Easter is associated with the memory of other families. It was 1975 just before Easter. The Vietnam war was ending ignominiously, with President Ford promising full American support right up through the time we left thousands of South Vietnamese sympathizers behind to confront new Communist rulers. Or risk death at sea as desperate boat people. These electronic Obama fundraising missives are always about money, even after an historic record number of fundraisers throughout 2011 and 2012 and the incumbent´s estimated $1 billion, second winning presidential campaign, which saw him actually reap millions fewer votes than the first one. The messages are usually filled with ominous talk of fights and struggles against unnamed, but evil special interests.
