The Lesson in the
Betrayal of Sarah Palin

American Thinker, by Lloyd Marcus

Original Article

Posted By:Desert Fox, 1/19/2013 12:23:00 PM

Rush Limbaugh on his radio show discussed an article which stated that there is no respected voice in the national arena articulating conservatism. Such an advocate for conservatism is crucial to reversing the direction of America as Obama drives us toward socialism while low-info voters gleefully sing Kumbaya in the backseat. Well excuse me for pointing out the obvious, but we had an extraordinary advocate for conservatism, and look what happened to her. Judas on our side betrayed her -- sold her reputation for 30 seconds of fame and favor with the media.

Comments:
Those within the Republican Party who are Social Progressives/Liberals and Fiscal Conservatives were the ones who led the Assault on Sarah Palin´s character and the majority of them were female.

I totally agree. Witnessed the power of her presence myself. The message was always clear and straightforward, and she delivered it was sass and class, never arrogance. I haven´t spoken to my next door neighbor since Palin was defeated by the media, the ugly left (redundant, sorry) and the even uglier moderate Republicans. I sometimes wonder how much worse the loss would have been for Palin´s running mate if she hadn´t been on the ticket with him. We are still for what we let happen to Palin.

The OP says it all. The RINO Republicans entrenched in the leadership of the party were the first to attack Sarah and continued the attacks on her leading up to 2012. They fear genuine conservatism nearly as much as the liberals do.

~~Also completely ignored is Palin´s tremendous charisma, which I witnessed firsthand on numerous occasions. We launched one of our Tea Party Express national bus tours in Searchlight, Nevada -- a huge dust bowl. Palin was our keynote speaker. Twenty-five thousand patriots attended, with many camping out the night before to reserve their spot. Through the windows of our Tea Party Express bus as we arrived, I watched seniors who parked a mile away using walkers to make their way to the event. In all of my 400 Tea Parties and 9 tours across America, no one -- I repeat, no one -- affected audiences like Sarah Palin.~~

Thanks Lloyd!

Ever notice how the Democrats have about
6-8 regular TV advocates, but the Republicans don´t?

That´s what we need.

Can´t rely on radio hosts to "carry the message".

Sarah Palin has that capability. She´s a name they know, and she can get on most programs just like Carville or Begala.

Fiscal responsibility is key, as is job growth in our energy sectors.

Democrats are against both.

The R party was ascendant until FDR and its core philosophy has always been secular progressivism. It has neither fidelity to nor respect for principled conservatism. Crooks like Harding and Nixon, time servers like Taft,
Eisenhower and Ford as well as incompetents like Hoover and the Bushes are mute testament to that reality. Additionally the visceral disrespect for Sarah Palin, from the blue rinse gang, was predictable, given her glam persona.

Never understood WHY Palin was so rejected by our side. I continue to hear disparaging comments about her, and I try to stick up for her but it´s just dismissed out of hand. Even I get bogged down with "She was fantastic, but..." I guess I´m just trying not to be perceived as a dunce in front of who I´m addressing, I falter in my defense of her.
But I notice, Lloyd Marcus and a few others excepted, the same thing happens to most Blacks who cross the line over to conservatism. The Left derides the conservatives for not having so few minorities in our crowds, yet viciously attack anyone of color who dare approach. Seems like the only people barring entrance of Blacks are the Dems. The sign that says "No Blacks Allowed" is posted at the exits of the Dem plantation.

Reply 10 - Posted by: Grambo, 1/19/2013 1:11:54 PM     (No. 9126619)

Well and truly spoken. It’s one thing to not endorse a fellow conservative for (whatever reason) but quite another to ridicule or libel them. That tactic is as unbecoming as it is counter-productive. That Sarah Palin is a patriot is hard to deny, and if that is so, what does her critics attacks on her make them? Hmmmm?

Reply 11 - Posted by: schnapps, 1/19/2013 1:15:44 PM     (No. 9126624)

What also strikes me about Palin is her humility. It comes forth in her speeches and in her writings. A rare and welcome quality in any politician.

FTA:
Sarah Palin, on behalf of We The People, I wish to thank you for your profile in courage, trumpeting conservatism (God, family, and country).
- Hear, hear. I´ll drink to that. Thanks Lloyd.

The RINOs and their rejection of conservatism is why Republicans lost in 2008 and 2012.....and are likely to not win again for a very long time, if ever. Do you hear that, you "moderates" here and elsewhere, you, who blame conservatives for our losses? Yes, I´m talking to you.

Reply 17 - Posted by: bluefindad, 1/19/2013 1:39:18 PM     (No. 9126649)

Thanks Lloyd.

My son picked up the phrase ´Caribou Barbee´ and would not let go of the perception that Sarah is stupid. He never listened to her, read her writings,or examined her accomplishments. He would not listen to me. He also never examined Obama´s history.

I told my son that Sarah was the epitomy of a self-made American, rising by her own hard work and merit. Being a bit of an elitist, he could not place her outside the box of going to State College and not an Ivy League institution.

Many of the conservatives at work looked at me with blank expressions when I mentioned her. They had bought the media label, uncontested by the Republican establishment and many conservative pundits, and dismissed her as unserious. It was not until I, as a fairly respected thinker, told them of my support, were some of their eyes opened.

Sarah could have been defended. Obama´s ´War on women´ would have paled compared to a determined ´War on mothers´ campaign that could have been fielded on Sarah´s behalf. Or, what about the ´war on the disadvantaged´ that could have supported Sarah as the mother of Trig. But, as Lloyd points out, there was no one to circle the wagons. In my opinion, the lack of defense was because Sarah was a real threat to the corrupt status quo.

Like most of the commenters here so far, I very much like Mrs Palin. more importantly, I respect her.
The republican party is a ship without a captain or a helmsman. If she were to assume one of those roles I would surely rejoin them. If she got involved with a third party I would give that a good look, too.
Like many people, age has taken its toll on my vocabulary. I dont think as quickly any more and sometimes my frustration gets the best of me. She does not seem to have those problems and she shares many of my values.
I have not given up on her. Not even for a second.

Reply 19 - Posted by: gillyo, 1/19/2013 1:47:38 PM     (No. 9126659)

The thing about Sarah that is so fabulous is that she has the common touch. She knows how middle and working class people live and what´s important to them.

I think that´s why both parties are so terrified of her. If she could break through the media wall and speak directly to the American people about what we can do together to fix the mess we´re in, she could be our next President.

That´s why it´s essential to pound away at the elite political and media class by constantly attacking them for their hypocrisy and greed. I think that´s why the elites are terrified of her, if she connected they´d be toast. So they have to tear her down.

I think she´s going into her wilderness years (in her case...literally!). Don´t forget about Churchill, who came back from defeat to save Britain in World War II. Everyone told him he was done, but when the time was right he was there.

#9, many on our side fear the burden of leadership and success, plain and simple. They prefer to lurk in the background occasionally making profound conservative pronouncements, then run back and hide somewhere while the Democrats lead (not where we want to go, but they do at least lead). The majority of the right we see regularly are either opportunists or spineless pussies afraid to fight for what´s right.

OK, let´s be totally open and frank here. When Palin came on the scene, I thought she would be the female Ronald Reagan. Great charisma, passion, conservative principles, love for America, and the ability to electrify a large audience with her public speaking style.

But it wasn´t just the liberal media ambush and the RINO Republican elitists who betrayed her and did her in. The truth is, she effectively removed herself from the public forum. She could have continued to fight and speak in public forums with her typical forceful speeches. She could have challenged her accusers and naysayers. But except for a few minor appearances, she retreated (and without reloading).

While I understand her decision to not drain her family´s financial and emotional reserves, her decision to do her reality TV series was the final surrender. And now her infrequent and tepid appearances on FOX further diminish her relevance.

Too bad, she was a truly great hope. Now who?

The media and the Left will unerringly go for the target they perceive as most dangerous to their designs - Goldwater, Nixon (evil and scheming), Eisenhower, Reagan, W (bumbling dunces). Sarah was no exception. What made the difference was the perception (correct as it turned our) by the Party Establishment that she was a threat to their Status Quo authority. Not only did she get no protection, shelter or defense but party stalwarts openly agreed withe smears the left media had heaped on her. IMO she should blow Begich away and come to the Senate in 2014.

The down & dirty, in-your-face anti-American militant ´60s radicals and their lap-dog media have the national media microphone now, but who can still believe a word they say?!!! Examine the results of the current self-engrandising pols, their failed policies on both foreign & domestic issues of vital national importance, PLUS the widespread decline in morality and civility & fractured American families during their deceitful tenure.

At this point in American history, EVERY American patriot, Every person of faith, EVERY law-abiding American of moral integrity and EVERY responsible citizen who understands & respects the U.S. Constitution & Bill of Rights, ...ALL are targeted & demonized by the left´s bogus propaganda, and *ESPECIALLY anyone as accomplished, articulate & effervescent as Gov. Sarah Palin! Why? Because the Gov. Palins, like the Pres. Reagan´s, remind Americans of why we love living in the USA and why we still embrace that for which it stands!

Such outstanding American leaders remind us of the principles of Liberty which have secured individual freedom throughout the history of this beloved land of Liberty! Reagan & Palin appeared in the political arena and suddenly reminded us of who we Americans really are and of our country´s place in this world as THE beacon of Life & Liberty! They inspired the best in everyone!

Liberty´s old enemies can´t stand such wise & inspirational American leaders and it is now evident the lefty pols will do anything using their now thoroughly corrupted TV/lsm/hollyweird statist cabal to destroy America´s best leaders as they have tried to remove Reagan and Palin from the arena.

In a nutshell, statists are ruthless.

She was, and is, hot.

She had more than the legal number of kids.

She actually worked- at fishing and homemaking.

She did not murder her baby when she found out he was going to be born with Downs.

She gave the best speech against the Establishment since Ronald Reagan.

The crocodiles in McCain´s campaign insured the disaster that followed her selection as running mate.

They let her become set up by the Perky and Charlie Gibson.

Then after the loss, the rotten lowlife copperheads tried to tie the loss around her neck.

She is still by far the best spokesman we could have.

She is not blue-blood Ivy League to-the-manner- born.

Sarah ´16. She will cream the hideous Medusa PIAPS.

I have always thought Sarah Palin would make an excellent president. She is the voice of conservatism, and the establishment could not let that stand. So they teamed up with the left and attempted to destroy her. When she defended herself, they came up with other attacks.

#9´s post reminded me of a photo on Drudge a week or so ago of the WH press corps. All white faces - from the first to criticize the right for their lack of diversity.

I love Sarah Palin. That said, I don´t even know anymore what the Republican party stands for..does anyone?
Watching Boehner negotiate with himself over the tax increase, and now the debt limit..can anyone say Republicans are the party of smaller government, lower taxes and Individual rights?
Face it, everyone in Washington only cares about his own rice bowl..makes no difference what party they claim to belong to.

Reply 35 - Posted by: Timber Queen, 1/19/2013 3:11:17 PM     (No. 9126802)

I agree with Mr. Marcus on all except one point. "Conservative" and "Republican" are not interchangeable terms. Its beyond apparent that the Republican Party is just the "right-wing" of our current facist/socialist/communist one-party system. Sarah Palin, and we whom she represents, are the enemy of "both" political parties.

I think the Republican establishment had her tapped for VP on purpose, in order to neutralize her. She had already bested them in Alaska state politics and she needed to be stopped, so they tied her to the pre-determined loser McCain.

Perhaps like many of us who now realize the futility of trying to "transform" the Republican Party, because there is simply no time, Sarah is laying low and preparing for the coming chaos.

I was so excited when John McCain chose her. I had been following her for a while. I thought that Sarah Palin would cinch the White House for the Republicans. But, she was betrayed by her own party. In the first media interviews, the Democrats in Alaska were full of praise for her. That did change in about 36 hours. What was the Republicans excuse??

#41, I think more would agree with you IF the GOP leaders didn´t act like complete fools. Guys like our Speaker, who are SO experienced, can´t seem to win any battles at all. If Boehner, McConnell, Hatch, etc. are the face of "prepared, competent" some are looking for, no wonder the GOP is dead or dying. The TEA Party soared with her beliefs and is now in danger of blowing away in the winds like ashes because the flame is reduced to dying coals from intolerance and petty actions like not voting.
Until those type conservatives can allow for a difference in small issues there is no opposition party to progressives and forming a new intolerant one will fail too.

I Love Sarah Palin and would vote FOR her in a heart beat. No matter what office she was running for.

When democrats/liberals/progressives speak ill of Sarah around me, I don´t get into an argument trying to defend her, I simply ask, What didn´t you like about her? After blustering for a few minutes, it usually boils down to ´I didn´t like her voice´, or ´her hair´, or the ´fact that she was a woman´.

Completely esoteric arguments that hopefully made them try to think - I´m sure there were a few headaches after I left.

Her problem with the establishment Republicans is she ran for Alaska governor against an establishment Republican, and won. Kicking his sorry RINO xss out of office.

I agree with every word of this piece. Sarah Palin is still a conservative heroine, to me.

I also believe Palin could make a comeback, if she chose to do so. My one bit of unsolicited advice would be for her to take voice lessons.

Don´t get me wrong --I love her voice and her Alaska accent. However, one of the great voices of the Right, Rush Limbaugh, realized that he would have to change his vocal delivery to be able to succeed nationwide (ever notice how different Rush´s accent is from his brother David´s?).

Wonderful thread full of heart felt remarks in
Sarah´s favor. But since politics in this country is like a festering swamp, there was simply no place for her. Both sides of the political spectrum are dishonest, self-serving criminals. I too, look forward to a day when such fresh, open, common sense, practicality will be welcomed in Washington, but I´m not holding my breath. God bless Sarah Palin and her family!

I´m with all of the above, I´ve always been impressed with Sarah Palin. I´ve seen countless of know-it-alls on this forum denigrate her to no end. I disagreed with all of those posters. Sarah resigned to save Alaska money from all of the lawsuits that were filed against her. She was discouraged and therefore resigned in disgust. The Rinos won, now the naysayers are experiencing the fall of this once great country. (No, I did not like her reality series nor Bristol in DWTS)

Sarah Palin hilites the serious vulnerability that exists in the Republican party. The moderates and conservatives just won´t get along. The problem extends all the way up to Republican ´leadership´.

The lefty media that never liked Sarah to begin with, used her to exploit the weakness. The media hilites either Republican conservatives or moderates, and people leave.

Republicans waste their energies on each other when their energies would be better directed at Obama.

Is it any wonder that Obama won in 2008 and 2012?

Republicans need to put aside their differences and work together. They need to put together a coherent message. Most importantly, the need to nullify the lefty media (good luck with that).

The Democrat´s best strategy is a divided Republican party. They will do whatever they can to keep it that way.

Never before has one woman in politics caused such passion. Either you love her or hate her. Maybe we were not ready for such honesty.

I blame McPain for casting her aside after picking her as his VP and then rolling over for Zippy. I will never believe he really wanted to win.

It is our loss. Sarah Baracuda would have made a difference. Look what we have instead.

Quick story-- a friend took an elevator with Sarah Palin on her way to give a speech. He said he looked over at her in the elevator and first thought she was talking to him or herself before realizing she was praying....

And I am sure many of you know that her teleprompter failed at her inaugural speech, she gave that by memory and improv.
If Biden did that they would say he could walk on water.

There is a list on the right and left who I will not forgive for her treatment.

For the purposes of this thread, I´ll abstain from weighing in as a yea or nea on the question of Sarah Palin´s strategic benefit or hindrance to the cause of restoring the constitutional republic we all love. I´ll only point out that whoever leads the Opposition in our brave new world will need to have the ´x factor´ necessary to overcome almost unimagineably crushing media antagonism. The last conservative to have that quality, as I see it, was Ronald Reagan. The task facing the ´next Reagan´ is even more daunting given our current landscape. As yet, I don´t know who is up for the challenge.

I agree with the article, and I still like Sarah Palin. I concur with many of the comments here

I knew Palin was marked for defeat when Barbara Bush, a woman whom I had admired, said that Sarah should stay in Alaska. The Republican old guard doesn´t want someone like Sarah Palin.

When I hear Dem women say that "Sarah Palin is a bimbo," I ask them if they have ever been elected governor of a state or if they have ever made a million dollars.

I LOVE Sarah Palin. This country would be immeasurably better right now if she had been president the last four years. But since she chose not to run, I think others are rising to take her place. I think Ted Cruz, the new senator from Texas will be an articulate conservative spokesman. I´m also very hopeful about the new Senator Scott. If we can send some more like Cruz, Lee, Rubio, and Rand Paul to the senate, we may be able to start enlarging the conservative core.

I´m going to say it, I´m ready for a Palin act 2, she would´ve been aces during the fiscal cliff talks. Quitting the governorship was the beginning of her political clout decline but I understand her reasons. I think she needs to start a door to door campaign for senate from the ground up. TV political pundits are a dime a dozen, she can´t differentiate her effectiveness here but leadership definitely. Folks we are in desperate times.

In 1927, Jozef Stalin summoned the Russian neurologist Bekhterev to give a medical examination of the dictator. Later that day, Bekhterev returned to a medical meeting and told colleagues, "I have just examined a paranoiac with a short, dry hand." Stalin´s left arm was shorter and weaker than the other. The following day, Bekhterev was poisoned and died. He was killed for calling Stalin a "paranoiac." He did not mention Stalin by name, but his medical colleagues knew exactly whom he was talking about. Writing in European Neurology, the historian Juerg

Is the Constitution becoming the left´s new target? That thought struck me the other night over dinner with my liberal friend, a lawyer and part-time professor. Among his choice statements, "Maybe it´s time to get rid of the Constitution and start over." No doubt he was echoing the sentiments of Georgetown law professor, Louis Michael Seidman, who suggested just that in a New York Times op-ed. It´s been several weeks since Seidman made his remarks, and now, it appears, the floodgates are open. Liberals feel they can speak freely about their true intentions for our country.

For the first time in my adult life, I am not proud of the First Lady. Mrs. Obama is frequently compared to Marie Antoinette. She spends hundreds of millions of dollars a year on her own pleasure and aggrandizement while urging the peasants to plant gardens. And for the first time in American history, we have a president who insults us across the world, disavows the idea that American is special, enriches our enemies such as the Muslim Brotherhood, and degrades our achievements ("You didn´t build that."). Metaracism instilled in the Obamas the tragedy of ingratitude.

Deroy Murdock (Hoover Institute, Scripts Howard) nails it in his National Review article. King Louis-Barack and his family really know how to share your pain. The "we´re all in this together" seer of America´s hope and change takes our bucks and we keep the change. The lousy March jobs report jolted financial markets Friday, and understandably so. In a trend that has defined this weakest of all modern economic recoveries, the jobless rate keeps falling but largely because the labor force keeps shrinking. The unemployment rate fell to a new four-year low of 7.6%, from 7.7% in February. Good news, except the main reason for the decline was that nearly half a million Americans (496,000) left the civilian labor force. They retired, quit working, went back to school or gave up looking for work. The economy created a net 88,000 new jobs

THE elementary-school shootings in Newtown, Conn., in December produced two polar public reactions: fear among some Americans that the federal government will restrict gun rights, and hope among others that it will actually do so. Colorado, New York State and, most recently, Connecticut have clamped down on guns, while states like Texas, where I live, are considering legislation that would try to block the enforcement of federal gun regulations. The uncertain approach to guns is good for no one, except perhaps for gunmakers, whose sales have skyrocketed. Lost in this confusion and anxiety is the possibility

Politics: Democrats were quick to blame the anemic March jobs number on the "sequester" spending cuts. If that were the case, what explains the previous four years of lousy job growth under Obama? At 88,000, the jobs growth in March was well below expectations. And while the unemployment rate dropped, that was the result of hundreds of thousands dropping out of the labor force who as a result aren´t counted as unemployed. Democrats, of course, tried to pin the blame for this on Republicans for allegedly pushing austerity measures. White House economic adviser Alan Krueger complained

Irin Carmon does a great job in Salon in laying out the bounds of propriety for when it´s appropriate to talk about a woman´s looks as a general matter.
