Federal Appeals Court
upholds Wisconsin union law

Legal Insurrection, by William A. Jacobson

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 1/19/2013 5:06:03 AM

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit has upheld the Wisconsin union law that was the subject of massive protests in 2011, including a takeover of the State Capitol and widespread threats and acts of intimidation. The decision was unanimous in most respects. The full decision is embedded at the bottom of this post. Via JSOnline (h/t LibertyChick) A federal court of appeals on Friday upheld Wisconsin’s law repealing most collective bargaining for most public employees , handing a victory to Gov. Scott Walker and his fellow Republicans

I nominate a new Republican goal: Implement this principle on a national level. Every entity that depends upon taxpayer dollars and not the free market should be reigned in, in similar fashion. Teachers, police and fire, politicians and all of their employees. If your paycheck comes from taxpayers - taxpayers get a say in your compensation. I want us to have that seat at the bargaining table - NOT the political hack who sells my taxes for his personal gain of votes.

Our local leftist rag, the Eau Claire Leader Telegram, shows NO bias at all when they titled their story "Walker´s Anti-Union Law Upheld in Federal Appeals Court". Bwah ha ha ha. Remember, this is the same leftist rag that couldn´t even manage to declare Walker the victor after his recall election win.

As soon as the unions illegally elect a democrat governor and legislature, it will just be repealed. Losers never stop stealing.

A minor technical point, I suppose, but - most state collective bargaining laws for public employees treat public safety employees differently than non public safety employees.
In addition, I´m a bit surprised that the federal courts even considered jurisdiction in what is an absolute state issue.

Governor Walker and his family have received multiple death threats in the wake of Act 10. Of course The Won, who so publicly opposes gun violence, did not find this worthy of comment. Big surprise: neither did the MSM.

It is not a victory for Walker and the republicans, but a victory for the whole state in its quest to get its economic house in order.

There should be no public employees´ unions, period. They work at the pleasure of the state, and revenue to the state goes up and down.

When AZ was flush with cash, I made a lot of money in the public sector and had a lot of perks. Not as much as the private sector at that time, but a good living. Things have tightened up here, and now you get a job and are glad to have it.

Teaching jobs have been cut a lot, and whole schools have been closed because of people leaving AZ. This state was hit hard by the downturn in construction and tourism. There is a very weak teachers´ union here, so there was no insistence that schools be kept open and teachers on the job when there were not enough kids to teach.

I can imagine that in a liberal state, the teachers would all be in a rubber room with their Ipads getting full salary for playing video games and surfing the internet.

Documents leaked by NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden conclusively prove that the United States has been ruled by a race of tall, white space aliens who also assisted the rise of Nazi Germany in the 1930s. These revelations about our alien overlords might not cost you any sleep. But the part that should concern you a tad is that the UFO story was just published by the Fars News Agency, the English-language news service of Iran, a nation that may be very close to acquiring nuclear weapons. This being a crazy conspiracy theory, naturally the Russians are behind it. The alleged

President Obama yesterday uttered words about Iran we know come from the heart: “What we want to do is give diplomacy a chance, and give peace a chance.”The leaders of Iran didn’t go to Columbia in the early 1980’s and didn’t dabble in the arms control movement. Ayatollah Khamenei and President Rouhani had different formative experiences, ones that involved using arms, not trying to control them. They hanged political opponents by their necks from cranes, built a terrorist organization in Lebanon that murdered and abducted Americans, fought a war with Iraq, and carried out assassinations in Europe against regime opponents

Congressional negotiators unveiled a bipartisan, $1.1 trillion spending bill Monday night that will reverse a 1 percent cut to cost-of-living increases for disabled veterans and provide $1.525 billion in aid to Egypt, among other provisions. The measure fleshes out the details of the budget deal that Congress passed last month; it would fund the government through October. The budget pact gave relatively modest relief to the Pentagon and domestic agencies from the deep budget cuts they would otherwise face. The detailed bill was released by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Harold Rogers, R-Ky., and Senate counterpart Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., who have

At first, it sounds good that 2.2 million Americans signed up for private health insurance through the federal and state exchanges from October 1 to December 28. But the administration’s goal was a bit more than 7 million by the end of March. So half of the signup period has passed, and they’re at 31 percent of their goal. Much better than October and November, obviously, but still considerably behind. (Recall that December was expected to see a bump because of the deadline to have coverage begin January 1.) And in an ominous sign for those who worry about a “death spiral”

Barack Obama doesn’t always win. Sometimes he has to settle for a tie, which Bear Bryant famously likened to “kissing your sister.” A Gallup poll last year found that in his fourth year he had tied George W. Bush as the most polarizing president ever. Democrats gave Mr. Obama a job approval of 86 percent against just 10 percent for Republicans. That tied the mark set by President Bush who, at the end of his first term, held 91 percent Republican support and 15 percent among Democrats. Mr. Obama and his administration seem to be trying to edge Mr. Bush. Attorney General Eric

In the summer of 2008, Barack Obama, senator and presidential candidate, toured the war zones of Afghanistan and Iraq. Obama had endeared himself to the antiwar left by denouncing President Bush’s decision to topple Saddam Hussein and repeatedly claiming that the war in Iraq had diverted resources from defeating al Qaeda and its allies in South Asia. Obama did not tone down this criticism even as he spoke with CBS News from Kabul on July 20, shortly before proceeding to Saddam’s former abode. “We got distracted by Iraq,” Obama said. I know, I know: Didn’t we go through this once before? SCOTUS sounded skeptical after oral arguments on ObamaCare’s individual mandate too and we all know how that turned out. We’re setting ourselves up for heartbreak. Again. One big difference between then and now, though, is that everyone assumed a ruling against the mandate would be no better than 5-4. Obama had four liberal justices in the bag for his position, as usual; the only question was whether they could get one conservative. Per Moe Lane, the word from SCOTUSblog about this morning’s arguments is that even some of the liberals

Black dogs don´t get as adopted as easily as others animals of other colors. The reason is largely because of some common misconceptions about them. Black dogs are mischaracterized as mean and potentially violent and according to NBC News. Black Dog Syndrome is a phenomenon in which dogs with black fur often go unadopted because of misinformed stereotypes. Black dogs are are euthanized at a much higher rate than dogs with different complexions. Many owners of black dogs say they are sweet, lovable, but also unwanted. The chances of being adopted are poor if you´re a black dog.

In the way of background, Barack and Michelle Obama visited Kenya in the summer of 1992 and married in October of that year. There is little dispute about the timing of

Before Chris Christie’s first scandal devolves into an obsessive quest to prove who knew what, when, it’s worth pausing to appreciate the wonderful, quintessential New Jerseyness of the incident itself. What happened, roughly, is this. On August 13, Bridget Anne Kelly, one of Christie’s three deputy chiefs of staff, sent an email to David Wildstein, a Christie confidant serving as an executive for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which controls much of the transit infrastructure of northern Jersey. Kelly said that it was “time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee.” Some speculate that the precipitating
