Latest arrest in Maverick County
San Antonio Express News, by Jason Buch

Original Article

Posted By:john56, 1/18/2013 2:18:43 PM

Another Maverick County commissioner was indicted on allegations of corruption Thursday, making it three of the five commissioners facing federal charges. With the arrest of Precinct 4 Commissioner César Flores, 46, only Precinct 3 Commissioner Jose Luis Rosales and County Judge David Saucedo are not under indictment. Flores was released on $40,000 bail, and Precinct 1 Commissioner Eliaz Maldonado, who´s also facing corruption charges, is out on bail as well, so the court can make a quorum.

Comments:
Today´s installment of that fun Ldotter game... Name the political party of the perp!

The article, of course, does not mention the political affiliation of this or the other two indicted county commissioners (nor the recently charged Justice of the Peace and two deputies).

Guesses are encouraged.

It looks like all we can do is just sit here and watch our North European/Anglo-Saxon culture just slide away as it´s replaced by the diffusion of Mid-eastern and Latin American cultures.

Months of speculation and weeks of intensifying rumors reached a crescendo Friday, as Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño resigned his post and aborted his decorated four-decade career in Texas law enforcement amid ongoing federal prosecutions of eight lawmen in addition to a former commander and Treviño’s youngest son. The move had been anticipated for weeks, but the fallout from the Hidalgo County’s highest-ranking lawman could still be significant. “The Sheriff’s Office is a very large department with many individuals and assets, hopefully they have the infrastructure in place to keep operations running smoothly

AUSTIN — Democratic Sen. Wendy Davis on Friday released a list of public-sector clients she has represented since 2010, addressing a potential campaign issue in her race for governor. The list provided to the San Antonio Express-News/Houston Chronicle includes the clients she has represented as part of the Newby Davis firm, according to her campaign. It doesn´t include all the public-sector clients represented by the two-person firm she has with Brian Newby, Republican Gov. Rick Perry´s former chief of staff. The list only includes the clients she handles, not those Newby handles, according to her campaign.

SAN ANTONIO — Two election workers at a Southwest Side polling site were chastised this week after Hispanic Republican voters complained the workers attempted to steer them to the Democratic primary. Republican officials said one GOP voter claimed she was told Hispanics are supposed to vote Democrat. The Bexar County Elections Department, responding to a complaint of voter intimidation at Collins Garden Library, said the two election workers serving as greeters were told to stop asking voters to declare their party affiliation in front of other voters.

Harold Ramis was one of Hollywood’s most successful comedy filmmakers when he moved his family from Los Angeles back to the Chicago area in 1996. His career was still thriving, with “Groundhog Day” acquiring almost instant classic status upon its 1993 release and 1984’s “Ghostbusters” ranking among the highest-grossing comedies of all time, but the writer-director wanted to return to the city where he’d launched his career as a Second City performer.

A federal judge has sentenced ex-Cameron County District Attorney Armando Villalobos to 13 years in federal prison. Villalobos choked on sobs as he stood before the court asking for leniency before U.S. District Court Judge Andrew Hanen. The former district attorney refused to address the charges because he stated he will seek an appeal. But Villalobos said a prison sentence would deeply hurt his family. The former district attorney said his wife has already filing for divorce and that his 12-year-old daughter is an honor student and plays the piano but is battling depression.

Hillary Clinton hasn´t gotten behind the wheel in a long, long time. The former first lady and potential 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, who has had drivers for much of her three decades in public life, said Monday that she hasn´t driven a car since 1996. Clinton made the confession at the National Automobile Dealers Association meeting in New Orleans. “The last time I actually drove a car myself was 1996,” the 66-year-old Clinton told the audience. “And I remember it very well, and so does the Secret Service, which is why I haven’t driven since then.”

The Clintons are known for holding grudges against their political enemies. But according to a new book, their aides went so far as to build a formal spreadsheet rating their friends and foes. The so-called "hit list" reportedly was entered into a Microsoft Excel document at the end of Hillary Clinton´s unsuccessful 2008 presidential bid. In one draft, Democrats in Congress were even given a rating, from 1 to 7, with 7 being the worst.

I have no objections to Jeb Bush running for president. He obviously has a wide appeal as a potential candidate. (Snip) His support of Common Core, however, will also find many who are in the conservative ranks objecting, since they fear that Common Core represents educational centralism and having the government ram federal standards down their throats. Obamacare, the plan purportedly created to provide health coverage for the uninsured, has enrolled just 1.7% of America´s 48.6 million uninsured. News of the disastrous numbers comes as nervous Democrats and President Barack Obama, ahead of the November midterm elections, did their best on Monday´s enrollment deadline to put a positive spin on the deeply unpopular Obamacare program. (Snip) The White House now claims an Obamacare enrollment figure of six million people. However, according to The New York Times, at least 20% of those never paid their premiums to activate coverage, leaving them uninsured.

A National Labor Relations Board official has given the green light to Northwestern University football players to form a union. Ohr rejected the longstanding view of Northwestern and the National Collegiate Athletic Association that players are "student-athletes" rather than employees. A few months back, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius stated for the record that 7 million Obamacare sign-ups by the end of March would constitute success. She was clear about it. But then February came, and February always stinks. It’s just a lousy month. You’re tired of winter, you’re still miles away from spring, and no one was signing up for Obamacare. That 7 million figure looked totally unreachable. So Sebelius does what every other member of the Obama administration does when confronted with inconvenient facts. She lied. Drinking Earl Grey tea could help guard against heart disease, it has emerged, after a study found that bergamot extract--a key ingredient in the hot drink--is just as effective as statins at controlling cholesterol. Scientists believe bergamot, a fragrant Mediterranean citrus fruit which gives Earl Grey tea its distinctive flavour, can significantly lower cholesterol. They say it contains enzymes known as HMGF (hydroxy methyl glutaryl flavonones) which can attack proteins in the body known to cause heart disease. The study found bergamot could even be as effective as statins, used to control cholesterol but which can have side effects in
