Winfrey’s Channel Is
Set to Break Through

New York Times, by Brian Stelter

Original Article

Posted By:KarenJ1, 1/18/2013 11:59:11 AM

Last Tuesday afternoon, Oprah Winfrey called the co-presidents of her cable channel OWN with some jump-on-the-couch-with-joy news. “Lance wants to talk,” she said, referring to Lance Armstrong, whom she had been courting for a confessional interview about his long-denied use of performance-enhancing drugs. Ms. Winfrey conferred with the co-presidents, Erik Logan and Sheri Salata, about booking a trip to Mr. Armstrong’s hometown, Austin, Tex., reserving airtime for Thursday night and announcing the “get” to the press. What no one said on the call was that this interview — maybe Ms. Winfrey’s biggest since her 1993 sit-down

Comments:
Sure it is. s/o Other than an occasional interview like this that gets attention I just can´t see it. I never watch her and don´t plan to. She will never gain as big an audience as she had before. The downfall began with her endorsement and lovefest with 0bama.

Judging by the NYT track record to date, Ms. Winfrey should just start to file backrupty papers now.
A single success every decade or so is not a hopeful sign for the future. The channel is almost as boring as Curretn TV and almost as relavent. Maybe she could fide a nice rich terrorist organization (CAIR) to sell it too.

That was the most pathetic interview I´ve ever watched. And to think: the SECOND half is on tonight! Without me, thank you.

Armstrong doesn´t say anything, and Oprah asks the dumbest questions. She really doesn´t push him, and he really doesn´t answer what she does ask.

The only thing worse on what passes for TV news is all of the hullabaloo about the Notre Dame football player´s imaginary girlfriend. Who cares?

Next, honeychile, you best invite Notre Dame´s Manti Teo (whatever the spelling)

I don´t think anyone has actually watched the interview, they just read the articles reporting on it. How is this any kind of breakthrough?

I can´t think of anyone she could interview that I´d go out of my way to watch.

Oh, strike that. I´d watch her interview Larry Correia. But that wouldn´t get her a lot of ratings because a fantasy author/gun expert isn´t going to pull in the puppets.

Most of the world already knew what he was going to say. So much of the interview was being live blogged / tweeted that people didn´t have to actually watch the interview. The ratings will be much lower than the attention given to it would indicate.

But those same men have never watched this channel before, and will never watch it again. If they did, they would forfit their ´´man cards´´, and might as well put on their wive´s dresses and high heels and go ballroom dancing.

And just throw those cajones away, since you would never need them again...

In an interview for The Guardian Weekend magazine, actor Matt Damon recently weighed in with his thoughts on how President Barack Obama has handled the scandals that have engulfed his administration since the spring. Damon, a vocal supporter of the president since his 2008 campaign for national office, said that Obama is overcompensating for his lack of military background with his tough response to controversies like how the government is responding to National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden. The actor said that Obama is allowing himself to “get bullied” and is acting as though is “manhood”

White House press secretary Jay Carney dismissed questions Monday about whether the Obama administration had taken its eye off the threat of terrorism since the killing of Osama bin Laden. Carney said that the “president has been clear that the threat from Al Qaeda very much remains,” and said officials were particularly concerned about affiliates of the terror group outside its main “core” in Afghanistan and Pakistan. “As Al Qaeda´s core has been diminished through the efforts of the United States and our allies, affiliate organizations, including in particular,

As the one year anniversary of the deadly attack on an American consulate in Benghazi approaches, journalists have begun to take another look into the scandal surrounding the government’s response to that terrorist event. Last week, CNN aired two striking reports revealing that the Central Intelligence Agency had a large number of agents on the ground on the night of the attack and that a suspect in the attack has never been interviewed by investigators. Following these revelatory reports, which some in President Barack Obama’s administration believe represent a political threat,

It’s not a new idea, but then again liberals are not known for “new” ideas. Since the 1910’s, progressive initiatives have been little more than a string of recycled redistributive concepts, and innovative ways to reduce the private ownership of wealth. The ‘Inclusive Prosperity Act’ is the latest in a long string of “transaction tax” proposals. Essentially the act would levy a sales tax on the trading of stocks, bonds and derivatives. And while the tax might be ill-conceived, and economically damaging, it was the sales pitch for the tax that proved to be most disturbing.

For nearly a year, we have had no answer to why the administration lied about Benghazi — why it told the world, not to mention the parents of our murdered SEALs at the funeral of their sons, that the cause of that fatal conflagration was an anti-Islamic video no one saw, when the various arms of our executive branch (White House, State and intelligence) already knew, or strongly suspected, it was a terror attack orchestrated by al-Qaeda affiliates. You only have to read the now infamous talking points to know that. That this lie was deeply immoral is obvious.

I have a suggestion. How about an exhibit on Tawana Brawley? If the purpose of the new National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian is to remember racial controversies, as the proposed Trayvon exhibit seems to confirm, then how about an honest look at the phenomenon of hate crime hoaxes? Particular attention should be paid to the role of the media in both the Trayvon and Tawana materials. Unquestionably, the media stirred up racial animus, and these incidents both contributed to raising racial tensions.
