At retreat, GOP advances
debt-limit strategies

Washington Times, by Seth McLaughlin

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — The chairman of the House Budget Committee on Thursday said the House GOP is considering a short-term extension of the nation’s debt limit to buy Democrats and Republicans some additional time to hash out a long-term deficit-reduction deal, and to force a national conversation over the size and scope of the federal budget. Rep. Paul Ryan, the party’s 2012 vice presidential nominee, said the short-term extension — coupled with reforms or spending cuts — is one of several options that lawmakers knocked around

The fiscal cliff was a no win situation for the Republicans because there was going to be a tax increase no matter what they did.

If I was in charge the Repubs would:
I would say the following:

1) Tell the public that Obama´s deficits are destroying our country and that they are not going to tolerate them anymore.
2) That the alternatives for our economic survival is to increase taxes by 40% or to cut spending.
3) That the increased Obama spending is providing no benefit to the country. It is impoverishing the country.
4) The Obama waste in endangering SS, medicare, every government program.

I would take the following actions:

1) Pass a budget that cuts out every penny in spending increases done by Obama.
2) Increase the debt limit just enough to cover the spending in their budget.
3) Tie the two together as one bill.

Headline correction: "At retreat, GOP retreats"

This is hopeless. The GOP now stands for nothing but a somewhat more leisurely timetable for the implementation of the Democrat Socialist Revolution. Yea, let´s get behind that!

Third party. Sarah? Rand Paul?

The republicans are trying to bye themselves time, hoping the sentiment in the country turns to their favor. The problem is,if you´re not standing for something, there´s no reason for people to rally around you.

The left and the media have made a $1.5 trillion a year deficit, acceptable. How did we get to that point when the left slammed Bush for $300 billion deficits? Why are we allowing them to get away with this?

The NRA ad on Obama´s kids showed the left´s hypocrisy on the gun issue. We need a strategy that constantly exposes liberal´s hypocrisy and double standards.

Where´s the ad that shows kids disappearing from the stage because they were never really born because of abortion?

Someone should be running ads exposing examples of government waste and make it as an ongoing sequel. Stay tuned for more examples of government waste.Medicaid and medicare fraud should be easy to expose.$100 pentagon hammers were a bargain compared to $900 back braces.

If we´re spending countless billions on food stamps, how is it possible that 1 in 4 kids go to bed hungry every night? Call for a ban on using food stamps on drugs, booze and strip clubs.Make the left defend these programs.

FTA:"“We think it is incredible that the Senate for three years has ignored the law and refused to pass the budget,” he said. “We think we need to have a big debate about a vision for the country and at least how we would budget.”

I wonder what would happen to me if I ignored a law for three years? I´m guessing that the ´debate´ would not be that big and I´d have a whole new ´vision´.
Thanks Paul- I sure feel better, now.

The IRS Targets Conservative Groups—
As It Once Targeted Commentary

This morning, an IRS official named Lois Lerner apologized for inappropriately targeting non-profit groups for scrutiny in 2012 based on the fact that they had the words “Tea Party” or “Patriot” in their names. There are many things that need to be said about this. First, and simplest, is to ask how seriously the Obama administration is going to take this outrageous effort at political suppression by an agency under its charge. Has the IRS inspector general gotten involved? Has a U.S. attorney been apprised of this matter, which can only be considered an act of political intimidation and therefore

The most notable takeaway from Jay Carney’s incomprehensible Friday appearance had little to do with his Klingon grammar. Carney does not represent the historical value of the event – you should be wise to forget his performance, and instead take note that he was flanked by the entire room, without exception. Do not underestimate the significance: the Obama administration has not faced such an onslaught of truth-seeking since he took office in 2008, and further, no Democratic administration has been charged from all sides like this in recent memory. That press conference was unthinkable just days ago

Out of the blue, the Internal Revenue Service has apologized for targeting conservative groups with "tea party" or "patriot" in their titles for special treatment in applying for tax exempt nonprofit organization status. Stephen Ohlemacher of AP reports: The Internal Revenue Service apologized Friday for what it acknowledged was "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups during the 2012 election to see if they were violating their tax-exempt status. IRS agents singled out dozens of organizations for additional reviews because they included the words "tea party" or "patriot"

Ms. Lerner says that this is nothing more than a string of unfortunate bureaucratic events. But Ms. Lerner is not always clear on what it is she wants to say. Asked directly whether any IRS employee had faced disciplinary action as a result of this incident, she replied, emphatically, “No.” A short while later she said she wishes to retract that, saying instead, “I’m not talking about that.” Ms. Lerner also says that she did not inform her superiors about the problem, which must be a question of key interest to IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman, who during testimony before Congress

You got the sense today that the White House’s propaganda arm is starting to play Benghazi very, very carefully. Up until now they’ve been able to get by fairly easily on the fact that most of the relevant evidence is on the other side of executive privilege, or in the hands of politically appointed loyalists, and on the White House Press Corps’ indifference. But Greg Hicks might have been the first leak in the dam. Plenty of reporters are happy to trade narrative management for access, but fewer are willing to be made to look like fools

The Internal Revenue Service has admitted that it explicitly targeted conservative groups for tax audits during the 2012 election season. Kimberley Strassel of the Wall Street Journal reported during last year’s election that President Barack Obama had an “enemies list,” and those that found themselves on it could find themselves a target of the IRS. The media discounted such charges and said the Obama administration was too clean to engage in such tactics. David Weigel of Slate Magazine wrote that there was no evidence of this. “There’s no evidence

The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee must be in a panic. They’ve got nobody. If anything, Rep. Gary Peters in Michigan and Rep. Bruce Braley in Iowa, who are third- tier at best, are the cream of the Democratic Senate crop in 2014 – and that’s not a good sign. It gets even worse with the latest development out of Georgia. They did have a chance in retaking the state, but that went up in flames once Congressman John Barrow decided not to run. The families of Navy SEALs killed in an August 2011 downing of a helicopter in Afghanistan came forward Thursday to blast the U.S. command and the Obama administration for the mission and to call for an official investigation into what they deem a whitewash. He was also the alleged leader among the three Castro brothers, who were arrested this week, and the owner of the house at 2207 Seymour Ave., where the three abducted local women had been kept in captivity for over a decade. Why is this important? Whenever a crime or a scandal captures national attention, the pattern in the mainstream media is to either identify the culprit as a Republican or hold silence -- in which case we can rest assured that the culprit

As a presidential speech writer for the first Bush White House, I am always very interested in what presidents say in their formal speeches. They know, of course, that their remarks will be widely covered by the press, studied by analysts, and influential in contemporary political debates. For that reason, presidents rarely speak off-the-cuff, and their every word is carefully chosen for exactly the message the White House wants to convey to the public. Their graduation speeches, like all presidential addresses, go through many drafts and are reviewed by high-level administration officials

Leaders of Alianza, a Latino student group, and the Associated Student Government called on students to remember that Cinco de Mayo commemorates Mexico’s victory over France in the Battle of Puebla. It is not a day to throw a sombrero-themed party, they said.

The legislation would force cable companies and satellite TV providers to give consumers an option to pick and choose which channels they get. This is called "à la carte programming," and it´s long been a dream of consumers who only want a handful of channels. McCain tried to introduce similar legislation in 2006 and it went nowhere.
