| Abuja—The Senate, Thursday, gave constitutional consent to the deployment of Nigerian military troops to Mali by President Goodluck Jonathan. The action of the upper legislative chamber was in response to a letter it received from the president, asking it to give consent to the 1,200 Nigerian troops he deployed last Wednesday, to Mali for a peace keeping operation. But the Senate failed short of directing the president to borrow a leaf from western powers especially the United States of America, USA, by considering Nigeria’s economic interest in foreign policies, following a sharp division among senators on the issue.

Colorado authorities are questioning two associates of the man suspected in the killing of the state prisons director, a law enforcement source close to the investigation said Thursday. Williamson, W.Va.- The man suspected of killing a West Virginia sheriff as he ate lunch in his car was mentally disturbed and had no particular vendetta with law enforcement, his father told The Associated Press on Thursday. Melvin Maynard said his 37-year-old son, Tennis Melvin Maynard, was exposed to harmful chemicals and injured while working at an Alabama coal mine. He most likely did not target Mingo County Sheriff Eugene Crum, he said. "He would have probably shot anybody, the first one he come to, you know what I´m saying?" the elder Maynard said. "I know he was off."

Only one of my six children has left New York for economic reasons but the strain of living in this expensive nanny state is weighing heavy on my other five and their families. As a native New Yorker, I´ve seen its middle class population decline over the years due to its neglect of blue collar families which is ironic since this is a Democrat city. With the recent arrests of several local politicians for corruption perhaps New Yorkers will pay more attention to those they put in office. Given their past indifference in local elections this is highly unlikely.
